tour manager

We've got a manager (the lovely Suzi) and she has done really well for us but she feels a bit stretched with a 2 year old to look after and also that she has taken things with us as far as she can with her limited experience. It was her idea to put together a Pear Jam tribute act, she organised the auditions and has been busy getting gigs for us since then. But she feels that we deserve better and if the truth be told she wants time off to actually enjoy her favourite band (us) instead of sitting at the door taking money or rushing around finding a working PA 30 minutes before the start of the gig. We get a hell of a lot of interest from Ireland on our webby and could easily do a tour over there and from my own experience I know that we'd go down a storm in Deutschland. It's just that we don't know how to go about organising it. Are there agents that put on tours for kick ass unsigned bands?

If you are wanting to play over the water then thats where your agent will need to be. Many artists have different labels and agents in different countries.

I would ask some of the Irish venues you are looking at who the easiest agents are to deal with and what bands they deal with. Then ask those bands what they think. Its its all cool, that would be a good place to start.

I was rather hoping that there were like lists of power hungry agents ready to make a buck out of us and do all that kinda work for us because we are but mere musicians and are therefore as much use as a trap door on a lifeboat when it comes to keeping appointments, making decisions or organising anything. :)

I'll put an APB out on our webby anyway to the effect of what you said there Slaphappy. Cheers.

There are agents who specialise in putting on tribute shows. Tehse have grown in recent years they are however very specific in what they want and will get you good cash and good gigs. Finding a tour manager is not an easy task. Also they are not cheap they ussually work two ways (I was one) A percentage of the profits of the tour/gig or a one of fee. There duties will be like any other tour manager but you need a good contract drawing up.

As far as getting work spend some time researching tribute bands in a simlar style. Find where they are playing then. Find out the booking agent.

Job Done well started.....
