What's underneath Precision pups?

I've just bought a '62 reissue CIJ Precision (used) and the previous owner had lowered the pups and now I want to raise them.

However, whatever is underneath the pups that is meant to shove 'em back up when you loosen the screws has presumably been compressed for too long and is now b*llixed.

What do I replace it with and where can I buy it?

It's just stiff foam isn't it?

I know that's what's been under my basses' and guitars' pups.

Sorely tempted to reply to your title question:

Possibly foam or maybe coil springs under the screws.

Methinks 'tis foam.

Warwicks and Vigiers definitely use springs (they feel springy when the pick-ups are depressed)

Edit - I think my 'Ray5 has springs, too.

Get some weatherstrip from your local DIY store - that what Fender use.

Or if you're a cheapskate like me, get a 50p neoprene mousemat, cut up & stick some slices together with double-sided tape or glue.

Ah cool! I used that 1 inch wide draft excluder foam with the sticky back ;o) Amazing what you can find round the house!!!
