2.
Yeah, the tuners lack sophistication somewhat. What's that kind of gauze bit below the bridge?
The tuners are a major design flaw - put the bass down without its special stand and, at the least it will go out of tune, but more likely you will bend/break the tuners. It's no surprise to find that this was one of the first Warwick designs and that the designer did not play bass. The "gauze" beneath the bridge is the residue of the glue that would have held a plate with the serial number on: http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-YO7WVK7V-D.jpg
 3.
when you do this do you find that there is a difference in volume levels between the two settings?
Well, yes and no. I'm using the bass-cut when strumming 4, 5 or 6 strings, in which case the overall volume would otherwise be higher. And then I'm switching off the bass-cut when I am just playing a single bass string. So actually the switch serves to equalize the volume between these two playing modes.
 4.
Ok I got one of these today courtesy of ash (thanks very much and a very nice bloke to deal with ) but tell me what does the Bass-Cut "Strangle" Circuit do - it seems to make it more like a baritone in tone but boy does the volume drop when using this
I'm finding it useful when I want to strum some big chords - hitting the bass-cut switch stops it getting too muddy. But then I flick it back for single-note runs on the bass strings. Admittedly, at first it did seem like a setting I would never want to use ...
 5.
That's good to know. Because my Spanish lottery winner's cheque hasn't arrived yet. Sent them all my details and everything. Maybe it's been lost in the post.
No, it's ok, they sent it to me by mistake. Just tell me your bank details, PIN number etc, and I'll forward you the money.
 6.
.... If its a Gibson guitar, they are designed to have the headstock break off (must be, ...
LOL!
 7.
I was wrong. Was back in Wunjo and the head-stock is definitely carved (ran my fingers over and everything). Apologies for any offence caused, but it is hard to tell 'cos it's all black, like!
No probs mate!
 8.
I don't think it is you know. When I saw one the other day It was just painted on the headstock. Might be wrong tho, But I'm sure it was
I've not seen one in the flesh, so I could be wrong; it may be something they've changed from the originals, so as to save costs. But the Fender site for the Modern Player version talks of the "distinctively curvaceous" headstock, and at least one of the photos it shows seems to clearly show the German carve that the originals used to have. And the video review of it that Nevada put up on YouTube shows the headstock quite clearly and ... it definitely has a slight carve.
 9.
Black paint under varnish from what I can tell.
It may be black paint, but it's on a carved-away portion of the headstock, a little like the contouring on a Firebird headstock. Google for some images from different angles and you'll see what I mean. Edit: like this one: http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/2750/patental6.gif
 10. If it's the old-style Rockbass (distinguished by having a 1-piece bridge), then it's overpriced, and £200-250 is probably more like it. If it's the new-style (with a 2-piece bridge), then it's probably on the high side but basically ok. Having said that, they're fairly rare, so if you find the right buyer, you might get more money. But either way, I don't think it's going to be worth buying just to flog on.
 11. Mine finally turned up on Thursday, and I finally re-strung it baritone A-A today and have had a whole load of fun with it. The nut looked a mess, and I've had to do lots of tweaks to suppress buzzes and rattles, and the overall finish had lots of flaws ... but, hey, it was cheap and it's fun. I'm happy!
 12. Wow! That is an amazing bunch of basses! I bet they get lots of comments when you gig them.
 13.
Funny, I've never thought of strings as an investment...
I don't think even TIs rank as an investment, but they're something you can safely buy in the knowledge that if you don't get on with them, then you can sell them on without too much hassle. Mind you, there ought to be a thriving market in well-used TIs, with a high mark-up compared with the new price, since they sound so much better.
 14.
...What I don't quite get though, is what they do with the reviews. Are they actually visible on the website anywhere ?
They say they are, but I've never been able to find them! They must be building up a secret dossier somewhere.
 15.
Sure I've never had to pay this before so yes, it's MasterCard rather than Thomann I need to moan about. Good tip re the review, will do it now!
I had exactly the same experience. It's not a large fee, but it's annoying, and definitely a new "innovation" from our beloved banks. But yes, do review the bass, and anything else you've bought lately - I just got a free iRig and ampstand, paid for by the reviews I put up there.
