1.
I've lost track of the number of times I've been smacked in the teeth by my own mic when some drunken tool stumbles into your mic stand while you're singing.
Could be worse, seeing this put me off using boom stands on at punter level for good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSZHo_hh83g
2.
Sounds to me like everyone needs to lighten up a little. "I'm going to get drunk and dance like an idiot" well, I don't approve but it's your Saturday night and we're here to make sure you have a good time! Jesus, guys! Our customers want us to make sure that everyone has fun and stays in the pub drinking. It's literally what they're paying us to do!
Yep, some gigs are like that. Its all show business innit . Too many bands dont realise it though. I been in pub covers bands where the guitar and singer thought we were getting paid just so a few dozen middle aged drunks could watch them cos of how great they are... Really.
3. This bloke. One of those you know the face characters. Bass & Vox for The Cravats. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBK3CvRCSNs
4. works like this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58iecUPI-_w
5. Ron Wood's first solo album, Now Look. I still dig it out now and again on vinyl. Nobody else really seems to get it.
6. Find a local reupholsery firm and ask if you can cadge some offcuts. Worked for me, the guy made the cover for a tenner all in. Even if you make it yourself, offcuts shoud be cheap as they usually end up in the skip.
7.
Do you know who the courier/postal service was? Somebody is accountable if there is a tracking number. Was it to be signed for? If so who signed for it? The sender should be bending over backwards to sort this for you, not abdicating responsibility If you have none of those, I would be asking for a refund sharpish.
The vendors not even in the UK, how is it their fault ? I'd still want a refund, but wouldn't blame the seller.
8. If the tracking info says it was delivered. Surely the carrier will consider it delivered unless you tell em different. Delivered means just that. Or am I missing something ?
9. Do you mean the shafts are at an angle to the scratchplate ? There are locating lugs on the pots, which should go into little holes near the centre. Probably not in the holes, or the holes are just not there. Sometimes you cant fit new pots with them still there. Either loosen the big nut and adjust, or break the lugs off with pliers. 10. When they start to sound dead, which with Roto's doesn't take as long as it used to. All of em, one at a time and tune them before I move on to the next one. Then stretch em and retune the lot.
11. You could get a Hartke 3500 4X10 combo or a cab and head for that money. Reliable, versatile, loud, punchy and fit in the boot of most cars.
12. Can be dificult dealing with female band members, no matter how much they are 'one of the lads' they think and react differently. Try talking to the guitar player in front of the others, if you cant get his attention kick him in the bollox and just quit, lifes too short to be doing something your not enjoying, and once communication has broken down beyond a certain point, you aint gonna get the respect back. You'll just hurt yourself trying.
13. Well, if you have to ask you cant afford one.
14.
Where are Fender currently at - I know their 2000-2010 period was way better than their 70s and 80s output. Have they continued? Then again, that's their guitars, the amps have been up and down with the cyber nonsense, although I love my Rumble cabs. I was saddened to hear from a dealer friend that Peavey are no longer their bomb proof former self.
Well my 2010 MIA Precision plays way better than the one I bought new in 1977 did. But the 2010 0ne had issues with the paint, Fender tech were great and sorted it quickly without any messing about.
15.
. P.S. An interesting topic to discuss might be, 'Basschatters who are in bands, where they dislike their fellow band members, but stay in the band because they really like the music they play'.
For most of of us its only your first band that consists of just mates, after that your more likely colleagues than friends. Its the pecking order that causes problems. Which is a good argument for having a leader, so you all know yer place.
