This is my first attempt at soldering, please be kind lol.

Hi everyone. I just rewired and soldered the control plate on my left handed fender jazz bass with new pots. Everything is working except that when I turn my pots up they turn the volume down and vice versa. Have I wired it incorrectly or are left handed pots ‘ a thing’?

The silks are black. Thanks for the recommendation. Funnily enough I was reading the reviews for those strings on Thomann. The a string above the nut looks to be unraveling/uncoiling tbh. I’m based in Liverpool. I’ve had a few tips but mostly been learning from online resources. I know a couple of people I could chase down for information. It’s just getting hold of them when it’s convenient.

Well I’m pretty new to upright so in all honesty these are the only strings I’ve ever tried. Despite having no reference point I do however get the impression that they sound pretty dull and lack sustain. Fairly certain they’re steel but I’ve no idea how old they are.

Hello everyone. Hope this isn’t a tired point of discussion. Somebody gave me an upright bass and I’ve been playing it on and off for about a year now but I’ve started to get into it much more recently. I’m wondering how much of a difference changing the strings would make? I don’t even know how old the strings are but is it worth shelling out for a new set?

Having trouble finding a reasonably priced fretless left. Apart from the road word vintage v74. My spare bass is a Squier Vm P/j configuration and I'm wondering would it be better and easier/quicker to just convert that? Any recommendations would be appreciated......

Sorry, the heading of this post is a bit mis leading. I've played fretless before but I had a friends upside down, converted sanyo bass collection. Although it gave me a good idea of playing fretless bass it didn't give me much in terms of what I would go out and buy.

I know it's a bit ridiculous but I'm just not that keen on the look of recent ibanez basses. I used to have a precision style roadstar bass and that was very nice.

I do have a fretted vmy p/j, perhaps I could pay for a conversion. It might end up costing the same in the end.

Thanks for your thoughts. The only issue in getting a better flight case is the fact that it's such an unusual shape being a Violin Bass. I'll be honest the flight case doesn't look particularly sturdy, having said that i was assured buy the previous owner that the aesthetic damage to the case was caused by British Airways which obviously suggests it's been in the hold of an Airplane at least once. That said, I purchased it from Bob Geldof"s bass player just after said tour but hey I'm just a normal dude flying by a cheap airline. Thanks again.

Hi Guys. I recently bought a Hofner HCT Violin bass (contemporary series) and it came with a fitted case. I need to put the bass into the hold of an aeroplane. I've used other flight cases in the past which seem much more sturdy (for my Fender jazz bass, Guitars etc...) and was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on whether or not the fitted Hofner case would be able to withstand heavy handed baggage handlers and all the rest of it? Unfortunately the bass is too wide for my usual flight cases. Thanks.
