Total Watts

 1.
If you want to use 2 cabs with a profet 5.1, you'll get the full 500w running at 4 ohm, so you'd need the 2x10 and the 1x15 to be 8 (EIGHT) Ohms each. If you want the full 500 with one cab, that cab needs to be 4 ohms. Most people find however that although you get just over 50% watts iirc from using a single 8 ohm cab, it's normally fine in a situation that only requires that one cab to be used. Summary: Buy the 2x 8ohm cabs, run one or both as needed. You'll not destroy anything unless you find the single 2x10 isn't giving you enough oomph on it's own at practice and you do something stupid like turn up the amp to full in a vain attempt to catch the guitarists up. You could also look at the wiki here which'll explain it much better detail: http://wiki.basschat.co.uk/info:amps:impedance_and_wattage
ah ok. (will check the link out once i'm not at work lol) with all that in mind, i'd imagine the 2x10 (8 ohms) would still be loud enough for rehearshal regardless? cos thats still over 200 watts where ive been using a 100 watt combo for years and that competes with both guitarists no problem. the combination i'm choosing as well from what ive heard is meant to be the best one for the range of frequency. if it came down to just using a 4 ohm cab, would a 4x10 on its own do the job? generally i want the low end for a 5 string but the punch and bite as well.. thanks so far btw
 2. hey all, i'm currently looking into buying a bass stack (as i'm doing more bass gigs than guitar at the moment) but dont wanna splash out a lot. basically, i was thinking a gallien krueger 700rb although the bi-amping sounds good, i dont think i wanna spend that sort of money on the cabs... so i'm looking into profet 5.1 (or a protube IV if i find one 2nd hand) basically, if i wanted to get a 2x10 and a 1x15, is this combination possible or does this depend on the ohms/watts etc. also, if i wanted to take the 2x10 to practise can i do so without wrecking it due the difference in wattge on the cab and amp? cheers
