1. yea i was really shocked, I felt like sh*t when i did the exam and I came out thinking I could have done it way better but apparently not. AS requirements for distinction are Grade 6 pieces + I believe. I'm pretty sure Wooten and Mckee pieces go way into advance Grade 8 stuff. The Bach piece was Grade 7 too so choosing challenging pieces probably helped. The guitarists on Candyrat are just incredible. Don Ross is mind blowing. Beautiful relaxing music too. Some of the best acoustic guitar tones about. Speaking of acoustic guitarists and incredible tone and playing ability, check this guy out: http://youtube.com/watch?v=jwm-vxGgFf4 The tone on the tapping is perfect. I don't know what i'm more impressed by, his tone or his playing both are just brilliant.
2. Last summer I did my AS Music prac. Unfortunately the week I had the practical I was really ill with flu. I did end up doing the prac. I did 3 pieces, a Bach Cello solo piece, You Can't Hold No Groove by mr Wooten and Drifting on acoustic guitar by andy mckee. The last piece is awesome if you don't know it, worth a search on youtube. 11 million views now . I'm sure you'll be fine. Grade 5 is the highest mark band for GCSE so if you are finding those pieces simple I'm sure you'll nail it with top marks. I went overkill on my AS with the pieces though got sort of owned by flu. I did score 100% though Which made me one happy chap for a long while after.
3. I do that alot Yep.. and again: Levitation is my latest trick: That blue t-shirt is my gig shirt btw I do wear other clothes Most of these pics are taken by the same person. He takes stunning pictures.
4. The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff is supposed to be excellent. They do jazz and classical courses there. I myself am looking into doing a course there.
5. I'm flying to the USA next summer to gig there. Next summer it's possible that I will be playing Japan Thats several days of travel as its touring many locations.
6.
I saw the title of this thread and thought it was about actually suffering pain, discomfort or agony for the sake of playing bass..
I thought it was about choosing to be a musician. It's a career most struggle to survive through.
7.
A bump for a gorgeous bass. Seriously tempted, but out of my price range... *hint, hint*
Heh, pm me and we can discuss a deal
8. I think you would like Bergantino gear. A HT112 + EX112 mini rig. Great rigs. Talk to Mark (poptart) from bass direct about them.
9. I have recently taken up singing backing vocals and occasionally singing lead and i'm really enjoying it now. I found that previously the only times I would sing would be to myself and they would be very quiet. Now that I'm singing properly I find that singing with confidence really makes a 100% of the difference. Having the confidence to project your voice singing loud and clear will result in better vocals. If you go half arsed at it your vocals won't be anywhere near as good, or in pitch. It really takes just having the confidence to push out your voice to make the difference. I really believe that everyone can sing and in pitch, its just a difference of how confidently one goes about it. Singing lessons will help anyone a great deal. Learning how to project your voice, using proper breathing technique, warm ups and how to place your voice. Most people will tend to singing from their throat, whereas if you using vocal placing techniques you can sing from the front of your mouth and you can save your voice from being sore after singing for extended periods.
10. Classical Thump But that is just in its own level of bass playing that makes me want to break down and cry Slowly picking it apart though and learning bits and pieces of it. Boogie on Reggae Woman - Marcus Miller figured out the high part to that quite quick and even the intro isn't as hard as it sounds but I always seem to just give up on figuring out the low bass part to that song and end up playing the melody instead. Probably more down to my own laziness. Teen Town Getting Teen Town accurate, tight and clean is hard as hell. Pow - Larry Graham The way he slaps this is so unusual. I can just about do it though not quite accurate. I tried singing it too and it really just gave me even more respect for that guy. For the guy who first slapped on electric bass he sure did go very far with it. LG is a true bass legend.
