  1. Strings, string, strings! I only play 34" for my 5'ers, I don't care for the feel of 35's nor anything longer than that. The quality of the B is what was I discovered it boils down to over the years, and I like bright tones with piano-like attack. I can get along with just about anyone's 4 string sets...these have been made great for decades. but B strings didn't feel as tight in the 90's, but many progressively got better as production techniques got tighter over since the 2000's. My two favorites are DR Hibeam/Sunbeam and then EB Slinky. I've also used Galli with excellent results. D'addario B's is very decent, but I don't love their feel. I cannot get long with any of GHSs' strings. And while I love R Cocco 4 string sets, their B strings are terrible, flabby, and the tone never matches the E-G strings. I have custom Wal 5's that are of course fantastic, as are my StingRay 5's... but you should try my cheap Squire Jazz 5 thats loaded with Galli 40-125 rounds and my own set-up work, you'd think it sounds and plays like a $2k bass! I use 125 B's if I'm standard tuned, and if I get hired by a band that tunes 1/2 step down then I'll go to a 130 B
  2. This landed back in 2022, never did share a pic of it.
  3. I am utterly suprised anyone that isn't a bass player, can even tell the difference between a Precision and a Jazz to ask for one. For anyone I have played and worked with, all they see is Fender on the headstock. And no one has ever asked me to bring any specific bass.

  5. My U bass is well under 2 lbs... maybe like the weight of trashy love novel.
  6. Mick had two Mk1's: One was tulip, seems he really favored that one. The other one was cherry. Both very rare woods, but a few cherry ones were made, as IIRC the cherry tree came from one blown down in a storm.
  7. the US version does have the 70's spacing. I think the Japan factory was only going for the look.
  8. About a month ago saw The Cult and Pennywise about a week apart.
  9. I'll have 4 gig this week. Was at work Monday and just before 5pm quitting time, one of my drummers calls and needed me to be house bass for the music school he teaches, doing open jam for their students at a local all-ages club. Wednesday night (tonight), will be back to my weekly live karaoke band. Fri & Sat nights, my main band is doing casino gigs.
  10. Yes, Bill Bolton I saw him post something on one of the Facebook pages as well
  11. Yeah! I remember on the FDP forum, there was only fella who has a 62 stack knob, its an Aussie named Bill
  12. Fender is the biggest cash cow for aftermarket and replacement components in the instrument world... Biggest reason is because of fraud bodies & necks or major patches being hidden under a repaint. People are paying for originality on Fenders when its easy to see what you have. Still need to be educated about all the running details though! Whats to keep (as has happened many times) crooked folks to doctor up a Squier body or Allparts neck , throw a paint job on it and claim originality and try and get top vintage dollar? Its best to leave well enough alone, if still all there. No one is making fraud Spectors, or Musicmans, or Status, they have no aftermarket cash cow market. A Wal will sell whether its original or refin'ed or defretted/fretted
  13. Beautiful preEB!!! The "long poles" are actually on the underside of the pickup.
  14. I just don't like them! There is so much richness lost with flats, the over tones that let tube amps bark, and effects speak much better with rounds. I can still mute and thump with rounds for the rare songs that really need such a sound. I still have one bass left with flats, and its a P bass, but I dont prefer playing P's either...its only there because I'm a Jamerson fan. But I'm always wishing I brought something else whenever I do take it out of the house. Ive always had duplicates of basses, and 15-20 years ago I used to keep flats on the 2nd of each style bass, but realized I was never reaching for them. Ive tried lots and lot$$$ of brands of them, and Dunlops being the only ones I stuck with because the tension is most similar to rounds.
  15. His post on September 26th says its getting a blacked-out neck. Back in 2019 I had and order in progress for a Mk3 in white (arrived in 2022). For a quick minute I had Paul send me a few ziricote samples as I had considered maybe changing to gloss ziricote with a black painted neck. But I nixed the idea and stayed the course with white as I had the agenda my last three orders would be red, white, & blue. My blue Mk1 order should be getting painted as we speak, already had my workshop pic sent over a month ago.
