  1. It was on a compilation cd, time period unknown unfortunately as it had allsorts on it.
  2. Great tip Dad, I didn't know we could do that. And don't call me Shirley. ✈️😄
  3. Hi all. I'm trying to track down a fab tune that I used to have on a compilation cd years ago. I seem to remember it being called Bass In Love, but Google/Spotify/YouTube are all drawing blanks so I must be mistaken. Artist unknown. It's a beautiful simple tune with a female singing in a very breathy sensual way "la lal la la la la la la..." to a melody (no lyrics), followed by a bowed double bass "singing" her melody back to her as if in conversation. There are other instruments on the track I think but the focus of the track is all about the lady and bass having this little conversation. I'm getting back into relearning my upright (properly this time!) after neglecting it for a few years. I would love to find this tune as it would be a great one to practise my bowing non-skills to. Very simple melody but beautiful. I hope one of you guys might know what I'm talking about as it's proving to be an unshakeable earworm! I can hear it in my head but just can't find it. Help! 😄
  4. A great tip I read on here, possibly by Stingray Pete, is volume up, dial in the right amount of bass that suits your girth/heft/punch requirements, then think of the treble control as a passive tone control and dial in your tone from there. It certainly works and makes easy sense too! Great, now I've got Stingray gas again!
  5. That's some nice bird's-eye maple though!
  6. Serial number on the headstock?
  7. There's nothing to "get" really. Artists are free to express themselves however they're feeling it. As listeners, some will float our boat, others will not. It's a great journey finding out which is which for ourselves. The bits we do like can then inform our own work. Sorry if I'm stating the obvious.
  8. Maybe your action is high on the Höfner?
  9. Interesting! I hear the music, new and old, in my head. I've never thought about it in this way before though. As an add on, I don't have perfect pitch when I hear music being played, but I've noticed that I do have perfect recall pitch when I listen to a song in my head. For instance, I can tune my bass to concert pitch by listening to the intro of Around The World by the Chili Peppers in my head as I know that it starts with Flea hitting a big E, so I tune my open E to his by singing that note and holding it, then the rest of my strings off that once I'm in. Is this normal? Do you recall songs in your head in the keys they are really in?
  10. That's lovely. Nice weight too.
  11. Yes but then they wouldn't be able to keep up with the demand (I expect).
  12. Charles Mingus on Haitian Fight song. Upright and guts. Probably the best choice for living on a desert island too 😄
  13. Not sure if this qualifies as whacky but it makes me laugh 😄
