  1. This is a very interesting topic. I'm about to pull the trigger on a Bass Collection Powerhouse bass that have these pickups fitted as standard. I've seen lots of demo videos of the pickups themselves (although nothing in a Bass Collection bass) and most notably Mark J Smith of Talking Bass has an Enfield with them fitted, and interestingly he DOES use the different configurations in his videos. The reason for me; I'm fed up of chasing "the sound" - is it a P, a J, a P/J, MM, a J/MM or whatever of the 15 configurations the pickups offer. I must have spent (not that much money, Mrs J....) on basses to fit a sound, a genre, a feeling (GAS, you know what I mean) and well, it's been said, these don't come up for 2nd hand sale often because, it must be, of how good they are. I've always played guitars at around the 2-400 mark and been happy, yeah sure, but I've never touched anything above that, even in guitar shops, and have never played a Fender, Ric, "proper" Stingray, Warwick etc. because the guitars I've had have done a job.... and yet I still chase "the sound". I'm looking to settle on a Bass, and dropping the best part of £1,000 on one, I sort of do want one that does it all, not just to save my bank account.....and my marriage, but also because of their seeming scarcity. I think this thread has spurred me on through the purchase of it, and I'd be happy to provide pictures of whatever when it arrives!
  2. I have a pair of exactly the same GB cabs and the Streamliner amp, and, well, I only ever take 1 to most gigs because they're absolutely fantastic and (imo) really sought after! When i use them as a pair and wheel them out of the car, people look at me funny.... and then you play, and they sound fantastic and are completely unassuming sleeper cabs. Good luck with the sale, these should go quick at £350!
  3. If you're happy with it being posted, I can sort postage... I haven't got a guitar box but have an abundance of cardboard if function over fashion isn't a problem? Or... if you are holidaying in Scarborough this weekend? 😅
  4. Well... If you're reading this, you'll know what you're after, but essentially about 3 months ago I bought one of these brand new from Andertons as a backup 5 string to my Yamaha.... Then I joined another band and realised I need a 4 string, and I'd just sold my Guy Pratt Betsy bass to fund a backup 5 string.......... So this is as new, bought, medium gauge Stadium Elites installed, truss rod tweaked, and gigged twice, practiced on for each of those gigs for a couple of hours, so you're looking at less than 10 "played" hours use. As I've said, I need a 4 string so would be happy for a straight swap for a similar valued bass. Props if it's a P/J or MM type affair, and I'd prefer a passive bass but y'know how it is. Wouldnt also mind a Line 6 HX Stomp too - so if you've got one you want to trade in with some cash on top for ya, then let me know! These are between £350 and £420 new at Andertons, so I'm firm at £275. Collection from South Derbyshire or happy to meet half way on a trade. I'm based in South Derbyshire (Swadlincote) but work in Leicester, so anywhere around the midlands isn't too bad. I will post this if you arrange a courier - haven't got a guitar box but I'll package it safely. Here's the specs y'all. GILLY

Will bought my Betsy from me. As far as BC sales go, we all expect buyers to be courteous, polite, quick to reply and overall generally helpful. Will was all of those things, and more - would happily recommend anyone doing business with him. Thanks for making the painful sale of a beautiful bass that little bit easier!
  6. Link to BC topic with users waxing lyrical about the quality of these basses.... Go on.... You know you want to!
  7. Guy Pratt Betsy Bass for reluctant sale. Owned from new for about 18 months, but played probably less than 20 times so it is in as new condition. I only took the plastic off the pickguard a couple of weeks ago. EDIT- there is a tiny c shaped mark on the back that I've tried to picture. Other than that, it's immaculate. It's a jazz bass, active EMG pickups, and well.... It's burgundy mist (not pink!) which looks amazing! It was setup by the London Bass Centre prior to shipping, and it's currently strung with Stadium Elites medium gauge strings. If you're looking at this ad, you know exactly what it is that it does, and boy does it do it well. If you ask me, it's missing a £1 off the front of the retail price, so £475 is a complete bargain. Selling to fund my daughter's private education (don't ask!) Video of me doing my thing with it here... https://fb.watch/jKSfqeToqz/ From a smoke free, pet-free home, always stored in the LBC gig bag (supplied) and well looked after generally. Can supply an Antony Scott leather strap too if that's your thing. Collection preferred from South Derbyshire (home) or Leicester (work) or happy to meet within a reasonable distance. I can post and have an internal and external guitar box, but postage to be discussed separately. Any collector is welcome to try before they buy, with no obligation. Here are the specs from the LBC website... 9. You guys have people talk to you after gigs, AND you're bass players????????????????
  10. With reference to the reply you've had above, is that the question you're asking? Yes you can use in ear monitors if you plug the appropriate cable from the headphone out into the input of your IEM system but it will bypass the signal going to the speakers in most if not all cases. Let's say you've got a wireless IEM that you want to use instead of a 2m headphone cable and you want to stand away from your amp using your 10m jack to jack... Yep, no probs. Can you run your IEMs from the headphone out and still have signal coming from the speaker... Probably not.
  11. If anyone is selling one of the Genz Benz Focus 112s then I'll happily take it off your hands! Been on the look out for another one for AGES! I agree with some of the comments, they are one of the best (12") cabs I've ever had, and having GASSED away one of them a few years ago, I'm starting to regret it.... Cash to buy and Ashdown Combo to trade waiting so PLEASE PLEASE let me know! 😆

  13. Thanks everyone - For now I am really keen to keep the medium gauge strings so I've done what Bruce suggested and measured the string height before and after tuning. There wasnt a massive difference (at least not really anything I could accurately tell you about, but I was able to slide my library card in and out without any catching on the strings (just). So I've loosened the truss rod off and will see how it settles and sounds tomorrow. Action immediately after still looks low (not touching but my library card is a very snug fit) and will wait and see what adjustments I need to make at the saddle end in a couple of days or so. Really appreciate your advice on this - thank you. As for playing in Eb, it's something that we've always done in every band I've ever played in - easier for the singers and a bit of a heavier sound for a 4 piece. I normally keep a bass tuned in standard to rehearse with (and switch for the odd studio track that's tuned down). I dont buy many basses, and hardly any new, this being the first new one in about 10 years and I've never had this issue with used basses bar a bit of intonation and action adjustments. I should probably have mentioned that when I bought this bass so that it could have been set up appropriately. Lesson learned (and forgotten when I buy another new bass in 10 years!).
  14. I recently bought a Bass Centre "Betsy" Bass. Lovely looking bass - if you havent looked at them yet, please do. The bass came set up and tuned straight out of the box - the Bass Centre pride themselves on having a guitar ready to play straight out of the box. Betsy comes with medium gauge Stadium Elite strings which combined with the low pro set up absolutely blew my mind! Being a player that digs in but also suffers with blisters etc. the medium gauge strings have been a massive help, and also help me play a bit faster too. Brilliant. But... The bass came out of the box in standard 440 tuning (EADG) - but the band I'm in play everything a half step down. When I tune the bass that half step down, it sounds a bit "floppy" and poppy especially in the mid and high range. The strings still seem to have similar levels of tension (albeit sort of noticeably looser) but other than that, it all seems the same. I'm just wondering what effect tuning down will have on things like the action / truss rod / tension etc and how to resolve them? Is it a quick tweak of the bridge to raise the string height and intonate, a turn of the truss rod, or actually do I think sod it and put heavier gauge strings back on (45-105) like I'm used to. Any help gratefully received!
  15. I am incredibly late to the party here, but I'd like to wade in with a few points. Firstly, Neil Murray. On Basschat. stinky poo a brick! At 34 I feel like I've been a Whitesnake fan all of my life, from listening in the back of the car as a kid, through to seeing Live... In the Still of the Night in 2006 and playing (or trying to play) some of Mr Murray's basslines note for note in bands and failed bands and wannabe bands and rehearsals etc. Indeed my Spotify account reminded me last year that I was in the top 5% of listeners to Whitesnake... Yeah, trying to flipping learn THAT version of Ain't no Love in the Heart of the City (which I'm still getting to grips with) and FFYL which well... Now I've got a bloody good reference point. That'll keep me going! Very interesting to hear from the man himself about what went and goes into writing those types of iconic lines then and why they aren't necessarily the same now. Food for thought for a covers band bassist! Now, being a player for the last 15 years all started with seeing Live... ITSOTN standing in front of Marco Mendoza and Reb Beach, watching and listening to them tear through the set with Mssrs Coverdale, Aldridge, Aldrich and Drury, singing my throat out, being thoroughly inspired.... and then buying a bass the very next day (a gold Wesley PJ!) but in my naivety assumed THAT was THE band I've been listening to all of my life. It didn't immediately dawn on me that band members could be replaced! I too was secretly astounded to learn it was Mr Murray on bass for the 5 times I saw WWRY (yes dear of course I don't mind seeing it again) - I waited at the stage door for the musicians rather than the cast! (Didn't get to meet any of the musicians though, sadly) So maybe in truth and reality, I owe the last 15 years as a bass player, the highs, lows, blisters, miles driven, suspensions ruined, adrenaline highs, bank balance lows etc. to Neil Murray? If that's true then THANK YOU! I think I've found that post-covid motivation I've been looking for. PS... came to the internet looking for a Neil Murray book having read Bernie Marsden's book in a day...
