1. Absolutely recommend the XVive system. I've used it in conjunction with a Fishman BP100 (piezo) pickup for about 3 years now, can't discern any difference between wireless and wireless signal quality. One great benefit of wireless is that you can turn your DB 'off' without having to go to the amp by switching the transmitter off at the bass.
2. No 1 comment : 'That's a big violin, bet you can't get it under your chin. 'No, but I could get it under yours' Is a reply I've never made, but have heard suggested. 'Bet you wish you played the Flute' Is another one I get from time to time. Hmmm, do the maths; if I'd wanted to play the flute, I'd have brought...... a flute, not a Double Bass
3. Hi, is this bass still for sale? I'm looking for an un(side)marked unlined 4 string fretless
4. Heartened by my success at fitting my 3/4 DB in my Jaguar XK last June (see previous post), I was curious to see if said instrument would fit in our latest acquisition, a Citroen C3. I stress that this is not a C3 Picasso, but a normal one which is similar in size and shape to a large hiking boot. Why we need yet another car is beyond me, but then I long since recognised the futility of challenging female logic. This car is about half the length of the XK, so I wasn't hopeful. To my amazement it actually fits, not only that, but it will fit two ways; either from the front, scroll first through the passenger door with the passenger seat fully reclined and the body resting on the seat, or through the tailgate with the seat backs down (the squabs don't hinge up) and the front passenger headrest removed, again scroll first from the back of the car. Perhaps there should be a National Databass (sorry) of cars into which you can fit a Double Bass....................
5. I know this is a really old thread so I'm not sure if anyone's still watching it. I hankered after a Jaguar XK (X150 Coupe, MY 2006-2014, not the early one) for ages. Only thing that put me off was fitting my 3/4 DB in one, someone called Goblin on here from Lancashire posted that he knew someone who carried his round in an XK. So I took the DB to a local Jag dealer who had an XK in, me and the saleswoman just looked at each other and shook our heads, no way it was going to fit. So I bought an XK anyway and last Monday i thought, will the Db fit in without its gigbag? The answer is yes it does, passenger seat fully back/reclined, DB on its back with the scroll resting on the RH rear seat top. It has to be twisted at about 45 degrees Not only that , but I put this info on the XKEC forum, and it appears that one or two of us have done this.
6. SVT3 pro Love it love it love it. Had one for about five years now. Bought an Ashdown tube amp (one of the MAGs, I forget which one) from Sounds Live, unpacked it, plugged it in and it emitted some interesting pink smoke, no sound though. Sent it back to them and for an extra £100 they sent me an SVT3 pro. Never had the slightest problem, apart from a mains fuse once.. I use it with either an Ashdown 2X10 or an Ampeg SVT1510H (genuine SLM) which must be 20 years old. Sometimes both cabs together, so 4 ohms doesn't worry it. Nor does 5 string low B, I play Yamaha TRB5Ps through it. They are pricey but you get what you pay for.....
7.
I can't believe there aren't any in West Yorkshire. Or are they all too bad to warrant recommendation? What's going on?
I agree, there MUST be someone in W Yorks/Bratford/Leeds/Wakey/Cleckhudderfax/Pontefract/Cas area who can help me with my embarrasing problem??? I bought a semi acoustic bass which has an action like the Humber Bridge, needs fixin before it goes back on evilbay. I had heard there was a bass luthier in Dean Clough, Halifax, anyone know any more?
8. Also, forgot these, probably becuase they weren't Yamahas:- Bass collection 4 string Warwick Thumb bass. I bought it off my mate Graham, not my thang, sold it after 2 weeks.. Life is peachy, unless you happen to be a peach.............
9. If anyone is still interested............. Jedson P bass copy shortie Fender Musicmaster shortie, traded it for.... 78 Fender Precision Sunburst, why o why did I sell this? Yamaha BBG5A Yamaha TRB5-1 Fretless still got it probably wouldnt part with it, the one that sold me on TRB-1s Yamaha BB1100s Yamaha BB1100s fretless (you can see where this is going............) Yamaha TRB5-II 5 string - BIG mistake, the only TRBs are TRB-Is Yamaha TRB5-I from Italy (Il Basso) Yamaha TRB5-I from Germany (Das Basse, or should it be Die Basse?) Yamaha TRB5-I from France (La Basse) (still got it, its the same colour as the fretless) (Yes I had 3 identical basses at the same time, plus the fretless. Ebay is a killer when you're trying to get over G.A.S.............) Yamaha RBX-760 (donated to All Saints (no not them, our Church)) Yamaha TRB6-I (just sold this, its on its way to London next week. Enjoy, Keith, if you're reading this) Yamaha TRB4-I (still got this, will probably sell it soon. Anyone interested? 07756 174187) Yamaha BEX-4 Semi (pristine condition but unplayable due to mega high action. It needs urgent & serious luthier-type surgery. Why did I buy this? Because it was there I suppose. Again, will definitely sell if anyone interested) I got there in the end, the Holy Grail of TRB-Is........ Yamaha TRB5P An awesome thing, and it speaks Ampeg. Action still higher than its bolt-neck piezo-less cousin (if slightly less buzzy) but being a ham-fisted Mechanical Engineer I'm reluctant to tweak the truss rod any further. Trouble is I now have GOT to have a fretless one. Can you get pills for it, G.A.S. that is, or is buying more basses the only cure? That'll be a yes then............
10. Anyone know where there is another of these for sale, preferably de-fretted? Was there ever a TRB5P-F (fretless)? Slapathy
