1. Happened about 6 weeks ago, good job we've always been proper mates: Drummer "I can't practice for a while" Me "Why not?" Drummer "I've sold my kit so I can save for a new one" Can you go to prision if you murdered him after that last statement? I reckon I could get away with it...
2. How about: Tune up silently, preferably off stage? Make sure you and your Guitar friend are tuned the same?
3.
Spot on.I was guilty of this in the 80's trying to emulate Steve Severin's (Souxsie and the Banshees, for the youngsters..) sound on their Juju album.Acoustic 220 guitar head,8x10,1x15 W bin, chorus, bit of reverb. When I spoke to him about it,he said "Musicman Stingray straight into the desk".
Sounds like a total face palm moment!
4.
I think it's it's all too easy to look at the hippest new gear and think that if you buy one then you will find it easier to play and sound better and so on and swap and change instruments all the time looking for that special 'something',rather than buying a decent instrument and become really familiar with it.
I was 'guilty' of this in the past - spent (what to me) was a fotune on a Thunderbird - because it was perfect, more expensive, so 'it' played better etc.etc. I've since gone back to my £150 Mexican Jazz, cause well... I think I 'know' it better. I won't rule out buying something more expensive in the future (or cheaper for that matter) - but I think I'd have a better head on than before. Experience perhaps? Maybe it's just 'one of those things' we have to go through. Still shelled out on a Mark Bass though... ;-)
5. Yeah, really like that, very handy!
6. In Guiitar Pro go Tools -> Transpose. You can then lift it or drop it by however many semitones you like. Word of warning though, it'll try to work out the fingering for you (assuming you use both the TAB and the Standard Notation) and it's not always the best!
7. Hmmmmm interesting one, and one that came up in our house recently.... I think I'd leave mine to my daughter, but then do a Brewsters Millions kinda trick for the rest of my "estate"!! As for my funeral, I'm not having any of this "Oh, he wouldn't want you to be sad, let's have a party!" No, I want everyone in black (for at least 6 months), and for it all to be dead mournful and stuff, ala a state funeral. I'm also expecting a documentary season on BBC 4 (with follow up hard back novel (£34.99 + p&p) about my wonderful and eventful life with interviews with various C list celebrities who comment on my greatness, we'll call it "Moody - The Wonder Years" or somat. This would of course, be followed up twelve months later with a Bank Holiday. Did I mention the 100ft bronze statue I'm also planning?? ... I'll get me coffin!
8. We're playing Glastonbury (main stage) and Reading (NME tent) this year. Not really. We're doing a 24 hour gig in June, doing two slots, 3am acoustic slot (my debut singing) and proper band at 6pm, can't wait, imagine it will be total chaos though!
9. Sadly not, only Tre came out at the end and hung around for quite a while, nothing was too much trouble for him and we chatted about kids and stuff. Billie Joe came out before the show for a bit of a meet and greet but didn't really hang around. Mike gave me a wink on stage and I gurned like an idiot!!! I'm a member of "Idiot Club" (www.idiotclub.com) which is the Green Day official fan club, I booked tickets to the Manchester gig in October (we got them on pre-sale), and there was a competition to win tickets for the Berlin gig, did'nt expect anything and got an email on Tuesday that I'd won.
10. Just got back from Berlin after seeing a secret (ish) Green Day show. 50 people won tickets from the official fan club and I was one of the lucky few. In total, I reckon there were about 250 people there. They did a full show for Berlin Radio. They did most of the new album, which sounds fecking awesome (look out for 21 Guns) and a few of the oldies (Holiday being an unusual exception...). I'm still in a daze about it all and I'm avoiding checking out my credit card balaance! Needless to say, it was worth every penny. I managed to get a few photos which I have posted on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/moodybass Managed to chat to Tre Cool afterwards as well, his daughter and mine share the same name and he was the nicest guy I've met. Mike's P-Bass was awesome, I'm going to buy a lefty one and play it like it nearly drags on the floor. He played through three 8x10 Fender cabs, which sounded awesome. My girlf has seen them a couple of times and commented that they sounded as good in a small venue as they do in a stadium. <- Edit to keep it bass related! I am now going to the pub to gloat a bit more... ;-) Take care,
11. We've decided to cover Ladykillers by Lush and I'm begining to have a right nightmare with it. I've tried working out by ear what is going on, but to be honest, my skills in this are limited. I've also googled tab etc and found not that much of use (I've managed to find the chords used by the guitars and thats about it). I have however managed to get the sheet music for it, but it's for keyboards. So, does anyone else cover this? If so I could really do with some help with it. Any help would be most welcome! Cheers in advance.
