1. thanks everybody for the replies my suspicions are confirmed. i think im going to have a chat with the organisers...
2. hi i have a question for you guys, let me sketch out the setting first im from belgium, mains are 220V here i play in a band, and we play exclusively ampeg i play bass on a 76 or 78 SVT and my guitar player has a 76 of 78 V4B both amps have internal conversion to 220v, i don’t need external transformers/supplies etc last weekend we played on a outdoors festival halfway through our set the whole marquee fell without power everything but the lights on stage went out needless to say this sucked big time all our amps went off and we were left with no sound the organization later told us it was because of the old amps we play some interference with the generators i have to say this was a medium sized festival, with two stages, about 5000 people attending i don’t know the specifics of the generators they use anyway, after 5 minutes the power was back on and we could continue our set the amps were working flawless as before at no point did any of our amps blew their fuse, they were intact i would think that if theres a shorting in the amp, the power would keep falling out on the festival? its hard for me to believe that this gear, that has been working since 1978, all of a sudden now makes problems for the electricity at this festival? i keep my amps serviced by an oldskool tech that puts a lot of love in them, everybody that matters in the music scene goes to this guy, the pros and the hobbyists, for this reason. he knows his sh*t is there a way i can find out if it was my gear? if so, is there something i can modifiy/change so this not happen again? if not, is there a way to find out what the problem was? the festival tech mentioned something about vintage amps giving huge peaks. i find this hard to believe. if a band like SLEEP can play live through quadruple stacked SVT’s and 3 fullstack green amps, ALL TUBE, and have no problems whatsoever, why would a standard setup of 1 SVT and 1 V4B give troubles ive been bummed out for a couple of days, because i love the vintage tone, and i love my classic gear i had an `SVT VR and a reissue V4B and sold them both in favor of my vintage gear. looking for any knowlegde/help on the subject best regards filip
3. hi there i am trying to determine the date of an ampeg svt, 4input blackface black grillcloth on the back it says: made in usa by SLM st louis and there a serial stating HD 1091 i am aware that there are the skunkworx versions of this amp, but there supposed to be a brass plate screwed to the back mesh, but also these happen to get lost through the years this one hasnt its a full black, slanted (no cut out) any help any one? im just trying to figure out if its worth buying for the price this guy is asking
4. is this still up for sale? and would you consider shipping to belgium?
5. tried the effect loop fix... still shuts down the same way as before
6. ok thankx for the replies!! will check it out first thing next rehearsal, hope it works
7. btw, should this be speaker in instrument chord?
8.
Hi, I owned a DBS400 for 10 years, and it was mostly reliable. It did develop a problem where the sound would cut in and out - tried leads, speaker connections, etc. Solution: Input jacks are in the same signal path as the effects send/receive - if you have no effects plugged in then loop the effects send/return jacks with a cord. These jacks can go high resistance and cut your input signal. Never had a problem after doing this. Mike
i will try that next rehearsal. where did you find out about the sollution? do you remember if the master volume dial was kinda loose? i mean real easy to turn, almost spin by itself, not sturdy at all like the other knobs...
9.
Without seeing the problem, it sounds like a dry joint somewhere around the volume control to me. As the amp heats up the joint expands and a contact is broken - that'll give you the 'pop' and sudden volume loss. When it cools down, turning the volume control allows the dodgy contact to 'touch' again and the circuit is restored. Needs someone to go through all the joints around the volume control and track down wihich one is bad - although IME, it's often far easier (and quicker) to just de and resolder all the joints within an inch or two of the area affected.
the pup actually comes as i turn it the volume after breaking down... while playing theres suddenly just volume loss, without pop... so this would only show when it just brakes down? would the installation of an extra fan help for future use?
10. hi there new on this forum im from belgium and started playing bass about 1.5 years ago. i used to play guitar in a band with another guitar player and a bassist, but no drummer so we shifted around, bassist became drummer and i picked up the bass kinda fell in love with it, still play guitar by myself though. but in a band the bass rules started out on the old ibanez SG from the old bass player through my randall guitarstack sold the stack and one of my guitars and bought a epi tBird pro on a ashdown little giant 1000 through a markbass CL 610 cab. the ashdown sucked donkeyballs so i sold it. i had the chance to help a guy out with something, he gave me an old trace elliot gp12smx preamp. that thing rocks then i discovered rickenbacker!!! since money dont grow on trees, first i bought a faker, a used jetglo like shine rk 2000nt and immediately sold the tBird the shine played awesome, sounded great (maybe because of the SD pups) after a lot of searching ( theyre not easy to find in belgium) came across a 2008 4003 jetglo through vintage & rare.com. took forever to ship, when it finally arrived i could wait to play it.... f*** the faker, nothing beats the real deal!! sounds like a bass but plays like a guitar.. just what the doctor ordered got myself a ebs valvedrive pedal for some extra dirt some time later, after not liking the boss OD3 this pedal is great went crazy about a month ago and bought a second rick, a 2004 fireglo 4003 and had it setup in full D tuning for my second band got a hold of a marshall DBS7400 set thats giving my some issues ( posted it here, any help is welcome) hope to get it fixed soon and now im officially broke :-) so my setup now is 2008 Rickenbacker 4003 jetglo (with the SD pups from the faker) 2004 RIckenbacker 4003 fireglo ( full D tuning) Trace Elliot AH 350 GP12SMX Markbass CL 610 (modified to 410 + 210, switchable for biamping the Rick) Marshall DBS 7400 head, 2 Marshall DBS 7210 cabs EBS valvedrive pedal Boss TU-3 pedal 1 Stuffed Ferret on the stack
11. how did you get is serviced by marshall? where did you have to go for it, is this possible from outside of uk? i have issues with mine
12. hi there i have a DBS 7400 rig, the head and two DBS 2X10 cabs lately i have some issues with it after 10 minutes of playing it shuts down? the power indicator is still burning but theres no sound if i turn the volume up, at some point ( different every time) theres a loud "bop" and then the sound comes back after some time, 10-15min, same thing all over again i checked if it gets too hot, thats not the case is this a known issue with this amps? i did a bit of research but couldnt find anything had it checked by local amp tech, he claimed to have fixed it he chainged the master vol pot and the preamp tube, and cleaned it when i got it fixed there, i played it for about half an hour and no problems. next day rehearsal with the band, problems start any help at all would be very welcome thanx
