Lakland 5502

I started with a ATK205 a few years ago. I ended up selling it to buy camera equipment. But, I always been entreated by the 2 pickup models of the ATK 5 string. This one came up for sale used on guitar center at a really descent price as most of the ones I've seen used are over 1K. I've been playing bass since 1968 and 5 string since the mid 90's. This ATK805's build, neck, string spacing and, tone suits me to a Tee. Using the pan and toggle switch it has 7 distinct usable tones and when you add in the excellent preamp you can tweak to your hearts content.

Is the neck pup hum canceling? Is the humbucker coil taped, quad coil hum canceling?

I've been using a 500C for several years now with a 6 pc. Plenty of volume. I also have a BFM Simplexx 1x15 cabinet that I built and loaded with an Eminence 3015 neo. I built it so I could sit the 500C on its' side on top of it. I use this combination when I'm outside. The 15 doesn't really color the tone it just seems to reinforce the bottom end and adds quite a bit of headroom. Do I really need it? No but, it is nice to have.

I have one and it is a waste of money. Piece of foam works much better.

Ibanez ATK805 the most versatile bass I've ever owned.

Playing with a pick is the answer to playing through FOH especially with a p-bass. Another solution is my old MM SR5 with a ceramic pickup in series. It has enough growl to cut through a marching band.

Being 73 years old and playing since 1968 using a sound engineer for anything other than a really large venue is just overkill. We use a pr of Yamaha pa speakers and matching monitors with a powered pa head. We don't mic much of anything other than the vocals. If we have a large venue to play we hire a sound company that we trust. We play as much as we want and we control our volume. I have worked clubs that have their own sound and I have been at the mercy of tone deaf FOH technicians. When music is played at ear splitting levels it becomes NOISE and the listeners are too dumb to know any better. (jmho)

The ultra low does cut low mids and boost 40 hz. Set everything to 12:00 and then experiment with the mid control. Set the selector switch to #1, play an open a and let it ring, turn the mid control up and down to see what it does. Do the same thing with #2-#5 on the selector switch. This will give you a good idea of what the mid controls do.

Try rolling of some bottom and the farting should stop.

The problem I have had with valve amps is not with the amp per say but with the so so quality of the valves available today. Not near as reliable as those made back in the 50's-60's-70's. The biggest difference I've noticed between Valve and SS is more of how they respond to my playing and not so much as to how they sound. They just feel different and they both take some getting use too. I've settled on a lightweight SS amp (Ampeg PF-500) Once I got use to how it responded to my playing I'm just fine with it. It is all about figuring out how you, your guitar, and your amp all work together. Is Valve better than SS, NO they are just different. As for a 300 watt valve amp sounding louder than a 300 watt SS. The answer is YES and the reason for that is the Valve amp can operate at 300 watts and can be pushed into soft clipping which sounds louder because of the changed harmonic content, while this sound is distorted it is still musical. The SS amp has no soft clipping sound like a valve. When it is pushed into clipping it get real ugly real fast. But, valve amps tend to top out at 300-400 watts and SS bass heads 800-1000.
