  1. Spoke to him on messenger the other day and he’s recovered well! Good to hear!
  2. I’d say this weekend has been an emotional game of two halves. Friday we played a pub called the Nelson near Twickenham. Despite a decent crowd the whole band were on a downer as a previous and much loved drummer had suddenly passed away earlier in the week. We played through the tears and raised a glass or two of Guinness to him outside at halftime sharing some of the many great memories we had! This one hurt a lot though, we’d only seen him last month at our guitarists big 50 birthday bash and jam session. He came up and finished the evening with us and seemed as fit as ever! So last night saw us at a new venue for us, Falkners Arms in Fleet. Some of the locals who see us when we’re over that way had recommended us which was a nice touch. Nice slightly raised stage area, good sound and a massively appreciative audience from song one! Big cheers at the end of every song and lots of enthusiastic dancing in the second half. This was the perfect tonic to the previous nights more sombre affair, best moment of the night was when having done a stonking version of Parisienne Walkways the landlord jumped up on the mic and told us it had been his wedding song many years ago and had never heard a band do it so well. He, like my guitarist and myself, is a massive Gary Moore fan so this was a lovely moment. We’re back there later in the year and we all agreed it was a fantastic venue and can’t wait. Good payer and we got a couple of beer tokens each as well, shame I was driving, the Doombar was an exceptional pint!! Few weeks off now, but this weekend will live on in memory for a while.
  3. Hartke HA 3500! Plenty of bang for the buck!! Usually pretty well priced!
  4. Although they are probably a smaller limited market will you ever produce double ball end bass strings? Oops, just checked your product site and found some!!! Are these available in the U.K.??
  5. I imagine it’s the auto cucumber on mobile phones that changes it!
  6. How Lisa Riley used to look maybe, she's a shadow of her former self now! Glad you enjoyed the show, always a guilty pleasure to an old rocker the Carpenters, along with Eva Cassidy possibly the best female singer ever to live.
  7. Just wondering how you guys get on, I'm not posting just to brag but I never ever feel any nerves despite the circumstances. I've mainly played in covers bands so maybe that accounts for it, very comfortable with the material and no real worries. Even in originals bands I've never had a problem. I've done an originals band third support behind Wilko J and the Pirates at Dingwalls and absolutely loved it and yet the lead singer was almost crippled with nerves. Once we'd got a few songs in he was okay. Also we were the first electric band on at a blues weekend in Skegness, when the curtain opened there were about 500+ in the audience, again I loved it. I know we're all different, I just wondered if I'm lucky or if many of you out there just get on with it or if you struggle?
  8. Drummer wanted for busy, female fronted classic rock covers band. We gig every weekend; commitment a must. Please only apply if you’re looking to join longterm. Gigs in Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire and London. Auditioning now. This is my band and the drummer has proved so flaky he has to go, we do anything from AC/DC to Boston, Journey, Stereophonics, Eagles, Springsteen, Heart, GnR, Fleetwood Mac, Foos, Marillion and others. We're not looking for a dep, we want someone who can fulfil every gig. Usually paid £250-300 split 5 ways, mainly pubs, some clubs and private gigs. www.asylumaffair.com asylum affair on Facebook cheers Colin
  9. Just wondering if you'd be interested? "Drummer wanted for busy, female fronted classic rock covers band. We gig every weekend; commitment a must. 10. Lol! If I'd posted in the Democracy/Dictatorship thread it would definitely err on the dictatorship side in her case, she books most of the gigs and is good at it but gets very spiky if anyone starts kicking back at something which is something the drummer is prone to do! (Always bloody drummers) On the side she admits she hates the bloke so something will have to be done at some time as it can get a bit ridiculous sometimes, and yes he is a Richard! I've not gigged for months due to illness and we've not started our year yet due to rehearsals so I was really disappointed to miss tonight with lots of new material and again tomorrow if we use a dep, who's good but only knows our old set! Happy days!!
  11. Similar situation with our drummer tonight, pushed the point that he has an old car that needs new front tyres but is more worried that someone will mess up and smack into him. Had to travel from Reading to the Twickenham area, as far as I'm aware that part of the M4 and W.London are ok. Oh well, didn't have time to get a dep and as we're in Horsham tomorrow night it looks like he's bailed already and we have one booked already. Problem is our singer is making sarky comments about it on our WhatsApp thread and our Facebook page, loves airing all the stinky poo in public she does!
  12. Markbass LM3 into a 4ohm Schroeder 2x12, never found it wanting even in a very large club with no PA support. Classic Rock, GnR, Boston, Springsteen etc!
  13. The worst thing I find is setting up what seems a good sound then halfway through the first half finding it sounds like shite to my ears and then having a fellow bassist give me a big compliment on my offstage sound! A regular problem I guess but so frustrating!
  14. I liken it to constantly dropping a tray load of cutlery!
