If you're after a totally transparent sound, couldn't you just use a power amp from something like a PA system? I'm totally ignorant on these things myself so I may be completely wrong.

Not on ebay, but theres a Tokai Rockinbetter in Fret Music in Shirley, going for ~£500.

I use 45-105 at the moment, but I don't like them that much. Thing is, the D and G strings are too twangy, and I sometimes pluck them wrong when changing strings, and I think I may have this problem if I change to 45-100s. I guess the only way is to find out for myself!

Why don't you get the 210, then save the extra money. If you really feel like doing some heavy gigging you may need a 115 or another 210, but these will be easier to carry round then one big 410 cabinet (employ the drummer).

I use a 1.5mm tortex pick, so I guess I'm firmly in the "hevvy pix am betterer" brigade Check out some guitar tutorials on pick technique, if you're looking for inspiration. Everyone finds their own way to do it, so just keep practicing and making sure you don't pick up bad technique. Make sure you don't just lightly brush the string and actually make a full connection with it, try to use your wrist not your elbow. I personally curl the fingers on my hand, then pinch the plectrum between the side of my index finger and thumb. Then I rest my little finger very lightly against the bridge (it frequently lifts off while playing) and pick by rotating the wrist. It might be worth noting however, I have poor pick technique, so this was useless

Hi, I've been playing the bass since last June (or possibly July, my memory is hazy). My current rig is a Warwick Corvette Bubinga into a Marshall MB4210, with a little big muff in between. I play with my fingers, although I've been increasingly using a pick for that twangy sound. I'm joining these forums because Talk Bass is full of Americans who recomend you spend £3000 at the slightest sign of trouble I also have a Squier VM Jazz, which I'm not sure what to do with now I've got the warwick. Its currently tuned DGCF, but I'm not really finding that's useful. I may route it for a humbucker or pull out all of the frets. Anyway, this is just to say hi!

The tone for hysteria is a Sawtooth with some fuzz, I think. However I get a really good tone by running my Little Big Muff and then turning the mids and treble right down (you'll still need some of each though, so don't turn it right off). For whom the bell tolls is easy, fuzz with quite high tone and then slowly rock the wah back and forth. [edit] This guy does the job quite well one a Boss GT-6B, try PM'ing him.
