1. Just to add to the fun/debate, the same guitar is currently for sale, I believe, on e-bay, advertised as a Corvette Standard Proline. As an amateur in these things, I'm nothing if not confused...
 2.
Hi Folks. Stumbled across your site looking for EUB reviews. Ive been playing bass in a variety of bands since my dad bought me a 6 string acoustic for my 13th birthday which I immediately took the top 2 strings off and found exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately Im now 45 so I guess I should be a lot better than I am. Love all sorts of music with a special place in my heart for Blues rock, soul and classic rock. Lapsed from playing live for about 6 years, but it is now time to bet back into it. Based in Reading Berks via Ayrshire Scotland. Looking forward to spending some time in the site picking your brains and feeling like a muso again. Once again Hi.
Hi-nice to have you on board! I've only been a member for a few days myself (site recommended by iamthewalrus, another Reading member), and already I'm discovering all sorts of things. I'm based just outside Reading, by the way, and my band plays quite often in the area. Get yourself in a band-when I did, I realised it was the best favour I could have done myself! Like everyone else, I love the top in your photo! My wife is already asking where she can get one!
 3. I have two guitars for sale; firstly, a Vintage V950B (five string). It's a guitar belonging to a friend who's returned to New Zealand and has asked me to sell it for him. He's looking for £120. His other bass is an Epiphone EB3, one year old and hardly used;again £120, although he'll accept a near offer on either. If you're interested, I can supply more photos. Thanks for looking!

 5.
Hi Kevin, Welcome to Basschat - was good to see you at the gig on Friday night in Wraysbury. You'll get a lot of good advice from the members on here whe it comes to gear - everyone has their own take on things, & it's all part of the community spirit on the board. When it comes to 5 string basses - the world is pretty much your oyster, & it just really depends on trying out a lot of different basses & seeing which one takes your fancy. £500 will buy you a good 5 string. In terms of amplification, my rig is quite light but that's mainly due to the fact that I suffer from sciatica occasionally. Stuff like Warwick, Peavey, & Laney is usually sturdy gear but at the other end of the scale, Markbass, EBS, Eden, Epifani, Accugroove & Schroeder is lighter but more expensive. It really depends on how much you want to spend & how much gear you need for the gigs.... Hope this helps a little bit - take care. Cheers, iamthewalrus.
Why, thanks, young Louis-as I have begun to discover, everyone is remarkably friendly, without actually knowing anything about me or my amateurish playing! The general gist of the replies so far seems to be: go and try out lots of gear and work it out for yourself-very sensible! I shall do precisely that and enjoy myself! Although I don't suffer from back pain, I think I shall go down the 'as light as possible' route eg Ashdown Superfly or such like! Take care, see you soon, Kevin.
 6.
Welcome along Kevin People can get funny about sale threads, and understandably so. A personable introduction goes a long way to making prospective buyers feel at ease. Best of luck moving the gear on and finding new equipment for yourself. The Corvette $$ is a favourite, but watch out for weight and neck chunkiness. Perhaps an MM SR5? I say stick with your grabber Loads of amp stuff comes up on BC, only a matter of time. Checked out your site too. Very profesh. paul.
Thanks, Paul, I appreciate the swift post; it seems everyone here is very supportive! In fact, I have already had enquiries about my friend's guitars, so my initial fears were unfounded. As far as new gear is concerned, it appears that the best advice is to go out and try it out for myself-there are worse ways to pass the time, that's for sure! Our website is looked after by our lead guitarist, Ian Legge, a top man in all respects-I shall pass on your comments! Thanks again! Kevin.
 7.
you sold it for 200£ without informing before on the value of the bass? for sure it's not the same bass because the one has been offered to me it's in italy.... anyway there's a guy in Usa that on the forum talkbass.com is asking actually 1900$ or something near that value...i dunno if you sold your probably for too less..or maybe he's asking way too much that's the link to his thread : http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?p=5455525
You don't know how seriously I needed the money! I still reckon that a 40/40 in reasonable, playable condition shouldn't cost much more than c£300.
 8.
Hello guys...has been offered me a Hayman 40/40 all original , natural ,quite good condition , seems those basses are extremely rare...do you know how much it can worth nowadays? obviously i'm asking an approx value...i have to get it without try and never tried a bass like that..so just in case i don't have the right feeling with it and will want to re sell it i can need that info....thanx
Hi-that's very interesting, as I sold one of those about two weeks ago to a guy in Essex. I'd picked it up for a tenner from someone who was going to throw it out (!). I didn't know what I'd bought, really, other than it looked, well, different,. Anyway, I took it to my local guitar tech, Mick Johnson in Reading, who enthused about it, told me all about its history (check out the Shergold guitars website), set it up for me, and I then played it non-stop at my band's gigs for a year or so. It's a great guitar, easy to play, has a powerful sound, and suited me down to the ground. Unfortunately, financial constraints meant I had to get rid of it, so sold it, no questions asked, for my asking price of £200. With hindsight I could have got at least £100 more, but needed the cash. A guy called Paul Spracklin bought it; he was very keen to get hold of it, and drove from Southend to S. Oxon to pick it up. so either he's selling it on, or at least you have an idea about its value. Mine certainly showed its age, but played wonderfully well. I think that if you go to www.bignedlasagne.com and visit the band's old website, you can see photos of me playing it. Hope all this helps; I'd certainly like to know if it's my old guitar you've been offered! Kevin Laughton.
 9. Hi all! Having already incurred the wrath of the team by posting a message elsewhere before letting everyone know who I am, I'm sneakliy taking time out at work to remedy the situation! I'm a fifty-one year old languages teacher who plays bass in a covers band, Bigshot! based in the Berks area. Ideally I'd drop the day job and devote myself to the playing-but then, wouldn't we all?! I got into playing bass only four years ago, when I finally decided to fulfil my boyhood dreams of being in a band; until then I saw it as something other people did while I looked on from the sidelines. It has to be one of the best things I ever did! I have met some of the nicest people around, including, of course, the members of my own band! I am gradually becoming more interested in the various aspects of bass-playing; until recently I just showed up with my gear, pluuged it in, turned it up and thumped away. My playing is based on my classical guitar playing style, something I have played for years, so secure, technically, but with no real bass-playing emphasis (must learn to slap and pop one day...). As for the equipment I use, I think I've been lucky, purely by chance, in the guitars I have acquired: a second-hand store in Reading yielded a Gibson G3 from the '70s and the loft of a chap emigrating to Australia a Hayman 40-40 (the latter now sold). My amp is a Warwick combo, and is becoming too small for my needs-at least in my mind-so will soon go! Ive also had thoughts of buying a decent 5 string-Warwick if I can afford it. So that's me. Any thoughts on the merits of different amplification or the best 5 string basses for around £500 would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for reading this! Kevin.

 11.
If the price is decent then they will shift, they aren't THAT bad instruments so I expect someone may give it a shot.
Thanks for the advice-I'll give it a go!
 12.
you have a strange definition of "cheap" I just bought a V950B via this forum two months ago and I certainly do not consider the bass to be cheap... neither do I consider an Epi EB3 to be cheap... a "cheap" bass to me is an Encore or other made in China starter bass... something you would have a hard time shifting in here... it would be easier to shift one of those by just taking it round to cack-converters (or similar)... and taking whatever you can haggle them up to... ps. It's considered polite to fill out your personal profile
Gosh-I didn't expect so many answers so quickly! Thanks! I said 'cheap' because the items for sale I browsed through seemed far more exotic than my Kiwi friends'; perhaps I just didn't delve deeply enough! As for the profile-yes, of course I will, but having only registered yesterday and then spent a rainy day having to entertain my young daughter, I never got any further than signing up!
 13. Hi all. I've just been introduced to Basschat, and after looking at the For Sale section, I wonder if it's worth trying to sell a couple of basses I have in my possession on here or not. They belong to a New Zealander who's gone back home and asked me to sell his gear if I can: an Epiphone EB3 and a five string Vintage V950B, neither of which is going to get pulses racing. Having tried all local sources I'm a bit stuck-and I'm not going to register on e-bay just to get rid of someone else's gear. Any thoughts appreciated.
