1. Okay, Thanks Ed. Good to know. I did wonder because my Hiscox dreadnought case needed additional cushion pads to keep the guitar in a fixed position. I will keep an eye on the aluminium edging when I get one.
2. Hello, Just a quick question for Hiscox/J Bass owners. Is their any movement of the bass, inside the case, in transit, please. Many thanks in advance for your learned replies.
3. I have one Bass Guitar which turns 40 next year. Apart from a Double Bass that I owned for a couple of years it's the only bass I've ever had. Every now and again I go in a music shop with the intent of buying a new one and come out empty handed.
4. 33/34 years, I can never remember whether I got it in 83 or 84 and it has been well used.
5. Thanks for the replies. I got a second opinion on this and it seems the tuners are fine for the time being.
6. Back in the 80's every bass player and his dog was slapping the bass, you couldn't get in a music shop for slap happy bass players, it was the bass playing equivalent of the EVH tapping solo for guitarists. Realistically, though it's just a another technique to be learned, it's a bit like refusing to learn how to play artificial harmonics, sooner or later you will need to know how to do it. The other day I was working out Peg (Steely Dan) and was surprised at how many bass players were skipping the slap/chorus section on YT.
7. Are these headstock tuners any good for electric bass?
8. Played one of these the other day and it was the best Jazz bass in the shop for playability and tone, super light too, GLWTS.
9. Fender standard padded gig bag, came with a Mex Telecaster, looking to trade for a standard Fender Bass Gig Bag. Gig bag lives in Wigan so local swap would be nice, but willing to post.
10.
What's the problem with the existing tuners? If it's the ones with the cast backs & torque-adjustable collars, I have a couple of 1980-ish basses with these and they're good quality units. 80s Yamahas also use a variant of these, with cast buttons instead of the cloverleaf keys.
The Bass was recently in for a re-fret and set up and the Tech suggested that the tuners were slipping and may need replacing.
11. Can anyone recommend me some good quality tuners/machine heads for a Tokai Jazz style bass. Current tuners are the 3 screw variety but I'm willing to do a bit of DIY if necessary. Many thanks in advance.
12.
Sometimes the trick is to swap the old Tokai pickup cover with the new pickup. You may then find the new pickup fits.
Okay thanks, I'll dig out the old pickups and try that.
13. Anyone had any experience changing the pickups on a MIJ Tokai Jazz Sound Bass, are the pickup cavities the same size as a Fender? The reason I ask is that I changed the pickups to a generic set a while ago and found the neck pickup did not sit very well in the cavity and was a bit of a job to get it to fit. Now I'm thinking of upgrading to a better set and don't want the same problem. Many thanks in advance for your learned replies.
