GreeneKing, Thank you for such a great post, I have been very absent from this forum for a while now, just having a dabble every now and then with it, this has mainly been due to having a diagnosed bout of depression and playing the bass guitar has just not been able for me really, to read what you had to say has inspired me to get myself in a gear and to get the bass out and get back on it. Hope all works well for you.

Late to the party, but why so what, I have one, in fact one of the very first, arranged by Mr M himself, great bass guitar, very well balanced J/P set up and I like the logo. For the money, AMAZING quality imho.

I was a subscriber for a long time time to this magazine (started with issue 1 ) Dave Swift aside, BGM has been rather lacking for some time, and the tribute article they did to Bernard Edwards the other month was poor.

Another forum that I visit had a similar posts while back, so I copied their top ten and have posted it below, a lot of them have already appeared, as stated its not the best but the most memorable, a lot of people may not equate Good times with Chic as so much as being used on Rappers delight for example. Cold Play, respect to them as a band but I just cant play misery, that voice is dirge to me, Bono is the same (not as bad but getting there) when the music is wallowing in pity and is nothing but sorrow then I cant play it or listen to it.

I would put forward My Girl, classic motown tune and you know within a note or two imho. Walking on the moon by the Police as another.

We lost a warrior, the world of bass just got a whole lot quieter and bit more tame sadly, ride on brother, RIP LEMMY.

Great player of the time, real nice pick sound, liked his voice and the band had some decent tunes, Locomotion was always a fave, liked the groove, Balmer and the Fender bass manual a good starting point for info on this bass that Mr Mc used.

Alot have already been mentioned, but two for me who I really liked, more on the "new wave " front, Tony Wall from King, very tidy player and the late Benjamin Orr from the Cars, again another very tidy player.

Jaco inspirational? without a doubt, for me his solo album, has some moments of pure genius, like a lot of playing, the groove on Come on come over, man that good.. BUT for some I can understand that his playing can sound like it has descended into cacophony doodling, the answer "its Jazz man" for me does not cut it, for me when you need a degree in music to have to understand what is being played, that to me is when the music has missed its point. (imho) Is Jaco the greatest bass player that ever lived, NO, there is no such thing, but was he a monster talent that was capable of some of the finest playing hell yes. But more Important who is the Japanese "guy" that is crazy stuff... what a great looking bass as well, I found Gangnam style by him to................ best ever!
