Total Watts

  1. Not a song but the terrible music for the Always sanitary protection TV ad, the one with the lady saying, 'Ice skating is my passion'. Horrible percussive electronic toms and discordant synth notes. If you know, you know!
  2. ...and replacing drums, piano, guitar etc. 'Sony's vision for a new paradigm in music production'... https://techxplore.com/news/2024-03-ai-bassist-sony-vision-paradigm.html Hmm. But can it pull the right face when you hit a bottom E?
  3. I have never tried playing it but those stabs on the '3 and' beat would take a bit of practice.
  4. As an old guy who enjoyed watching Sparks on TOTP in the 70s (and recently saw them live) I was pleased to hear young, upcoming band The Last Dinner Party doing a strong cover of 'This town ain't big enough' on Jo Whiley's show. It's here on BBC Sounds at about 1:08 if you want a listen. One of their original songs played earlier in the set also sounded like they had been listening to a lot of Sparks, which I mean as a compliment. It's nice to be down with kids as I approach my 60th birthday! https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m001wqts
  5. I am having a similar experience with trumpet players.
  6. One band I am in use Muzodo.com, it seems to be popular with brass bands. It seems to work OK for me as a band member. Thanks for the other suggestions. I sympathize as in another role I try and organise a Big Band of 18 and it is a guaranteed nervous breakdown. I have realised that to have 18 players available on any given night you need a pool of players about 50% bigger to make up for everyone who suddenly can't make dates that they previously told you were fine.
  7. Of course no standard scale acoustic bass guitar is going to sound quite like an upright ('I cannae change the laws of physics!') but I thought this was a pretty good impersonation. Doesn't look as cool though. Nice job by Mr. Vliex who deserves more than 300 views on YouTube.
  8. Thanks Woodinblack, that's helpful. I'll give it a test tonight.
  9. I just got one of these to use as a back up amp and it sounds great for such a tiny unit. One question, it seems to get quite warm when you have been playing for about 40 mins or so. Is that normal for these units? It hasn't cut out or done anything odd, and the fan appears to be working and the vents aren't covered. I don't think it is overheating but when I put my hand on the top casing, well, if it was a radiator you would definitely know that it was on. I'll take it to a rehearsal tonight and see if it gets through it.
  10. Yesterday (June 14th) Leland Sklar did a YouTube vid about Phil Collins (Behind the Lines) and included a shout out about how brilliant and funky the Rebecca Johnson Band are. He said that she is one of his favourite bass player/singers. Feel justified starting this thread!
  11. I have one of these and they are great little cabs that produce a good quality clean sound. I play EUB with a big band and it easily copes with gigs in small to medium venues and rehearsals. Lightweight, one handed carry, easy to fit in the back of a car alongside a load of other gear. I think you would be getting a lot of cab for your money. GLWTS.
  12. I am glad this is getting some love. I read something where she said she has tried loads of basses but loves the MM.
  13. I like these guys - an Aussie trio who are 'just' a gigging covers band playing small venues, but they are all super musicians (imho). Well worth a follow on Facebook or a look on YouTube. I searched Rebecca Johnson on Basschat and didn't come up with a result, so thought I better put that right... Dave B.
  14. This turned up on my timeline. If we can sell six inches of old bass string for £22 then I reckon a few of us are sitting on a gold mine... Merry Christmas, everyone!
