1. If the neck curve is good and the action has not the strings glued to the fretboard then it's all in the fret work. You should be able to get a decent 1.5mm to 2mm action without fret buzz.
2. They sound good , feel good , they have no brand on tuners and bridge but they do their job quite well(stays in tune !!!!). They sustain good , ash/maple has more punch that alder/rosewood which has a more traditional/standard sound. Passive mode is a real one (works even without batteries) and pre amp is very efficient(be careful !). Now...their price is illogical because we forget easiely they are made in indonesia. Were they made in USA or europe they would have cost more than 1000 dollar. Oh and finish is quite good. Never saw that at that price range before. So ...Yeah... if you can get one just get it. I play professionally and do lot of studio and it has become my main bass. And trust me I'm a difficult customer.
3. I'd go with ash because it looks good. But I'd go with the lighter piece and focus on neck/fingerboard for "voicing". Also pickups type/position will have a great impact. I've had various ash bodied basses and my conclusion is that weight/density makes a huge difference in tone. On two basses with heavy/ harder ash bodies the low end was bigger than on my lighter bass who sang more in the low midrange. But to me necks decided character. A wenge fingerboard will be close to a rosewood one...but maple will sound differently and ebony will give you that howl in the upper mids ...add active electronics and chose an unusual pickup position and all I have said about wood density and weight is snake oiled load of crap.
4. I love that quilted top on your Lakeland !
5. For me it's definitely my Tom Marceau bass. I can have all the 3 "main" bass sounds (pbass, jbass, MM) while retaining its character. I've rarely played a bass that could fit so much voicing while retaining its own identity. (And it's also dead confortable and the Low B is surprisingly good for a 31" bass!) 6. I'm still learning about the beauty and found that I really love parallel setting ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NrBamyepeU
7. A little comparison with the warwick , the marceau has a slightly more play time but it gives a good impression of the character of the two beasts ! The Singlecut sounds more vintage with that "woody", warm feel , the warwick sounds more modern. The Marceau is switched to single coil (Marceau Pickups) ,alnico 2 magnets here, full passive / warwick is passive anyway , but ceramic magnets (MEC passive , dynamic correction). I don't know what part wood has in the sound , but the ash bodied 'wick definitely has a mid scoop when compared to the sapele bodied Marceau when played acoustically..When plugged it seems that magnets and pickups placement have a big impact but don't erase the acoustic properties of the basses. They definitely have their own identity. (And yes , strings are rotosound swing 66 on both basses) https://www.youtube....h?v=E27ygPNmB2E

9. I'm not familiar with the instrument yet , but from what I've seen this is a winner.

12. What do you need ? I always have ONE bass , a back-up and a frankenstein (un-fretted). But my main is my main. Bringing 5 basses on stage often means constant need to set your amp to try to find a sound. I have a main bass and I almost never plug it when at home. IME if you can make it sound good unplugged there's nothing you can't do when plugged..Knowing that you have just one amp on stage most of the time. It saves a lot of time setting up tone when you know an instrument. When you have like 20 basses you don't really know them.. Now , depending on what you do , sometimes you need more than one but in order to avoid extra-time trying to find a sound maybe you should have like the same bass with different setting ie : jazz bass 4 with flats, jazz bass 5 with rounds , jazz bass fretless. You have the same pickup configuration almost same neck so you might find it easier to get the tone you want without looking constantly at the head like "hey homie that not how you sounded at home". But after a years and many many shows you really need one bass...If you can make it do what you want unplugged yu'll make it will do what you want on stage, but if it sounds good plugged and you put your trust in big amps head and baffles , when on stage it could be different and but will always stay constant is the relationship with your instrument, it will dictate all the rest. I feel like Yoda now...
