1. Hi everyone, this pick up came off my Fender Telecaster Bass from 1968 and It's a perfectly working, rare and original part from Fender's CBS years. It comes with height regulation springs and earth wire. It sounds super warm and with natural mids, exactly what you'd expect from the Telecaster bass. you can hear some of it in action here and here Also, I have a video available of the pickup being test metered, showing a reassuring 0 (circuit closed therefore everything working), you can check it out here Get in touch, you tele will never sound more original than this! Matteo
2. Hey fellow bassmen! You probably know how good this instrument is and how much I am going to regret selling it. Truth is that I actually don't even want to sell it! I am forced to due to the current situation, finances getting tighter and tighter by the day. This is an awesome piece of equipment that is currently out of production, you will pretty much find them only second hand. I gigged her quite extensively but always treated her with much respect. All that playing has definitely helped to bring her alive hence why she does have that mojo! There are virtually no dings or scratches on her, I've been that careful. The sound of this bass is really incredible.. not to mention the construction: spline joint Alder body, Rosewood neck, through-body stringing and bolt-on construction. That's the specs you need for the perfect funk machine. I said enough! I Will throw in a hard case within the price too, Get in touch, don't miss out on this rare beauty! Matteo
3. @Cloudburst: did you get it?? I am interested in getting the para too...
4. How did it go with the preamp? Sorted with JE or did you switch to passive. If i can recommend you based on my experience...nothing beats the passive tone of the P bass. Get a nice one and you won't need to make a stingray passive. That's just my 2 cents..(or 2 pences!) I honestly and clearly hate very much the stock preamp Ernie Ball sells the bass with, with that horrible sizzly sound and no tight lows. What a disgrace!! I had to buy one custom preamp from John to avoid selling that amazing bass the stingray is. Besides that, the EBMM company makes great built instruments with great woods. Change the preamp and you'll see that you won't give a damn to go passive. The stingray is designed to be active, make it work best (probably with John's pre) and will kick your audience' arses. Again, i would much go for a P bass if passive sound is what you like. In this video I am using John's pre, just a play along...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgpJoEKP_lw Hope you enjoy it!
5. East London, clapton to be exact. Pardon, I forgot to mention this!
6. Hi basschatters, I have a upright bass case that was given to me by a friend who plays bass (i play upright bass too) and because i didn't have a hard case for my instrument, he gave me his old one given the fact that he has a new upright with its respective new hardcase. I was happy to have this one for me but with my surprise, when fitting my bass into it, size wasn't right (it was as soon as i got home with the new case). In fact i have a 4/4 double bass and this case is definitely for a 3/4. It looks still strong and functional, every zip is closing/opening the right way and the wheels are rolling smoothly. I wish i could have kept this one for my bass (as my current "case" it's like have nothing protecting your bass) but as the 2 do not fit, the case will sadly have to go. So come and get a very nice upright bass case for little money. Last but not least, the case isn't just padded but it is actually made of wood (like a coffin!) so that you'll get that extra protection that soft case cannot offer. Here the measurements i have taken: width: 68 cm Lenght: 197.5 cm Height: 45 cm (roughly) Let me know, Matt
7. Im a 4 stringer dude too, that's why i wanna go a little exotic but i'll keep the real stuff for the 4 strings... That's an amazing bass that you are selling, damn you know it came to my mind few times that model.... i must resist!!!
8. Nice beast man... why do you wanna sell it? I played one of these few weeks ago and woah... If i wasn't after a 6er this would definitely be mine.... Me n you have the same basses 1993 Fender Precision Bass 62 Reissue MIJ which i am about to sell 1983 Pre EB - Musicman Stingray...now i understand why you are selling that one... my sting is from 98 so it's ernie but yeah nice!
9. If you have to get a stock one get the classic 2 eq version. Those are the basses with the real stingray sound. Dump the 3 eq, it's there just to confuse you.
10. Precision or Stingray....good question. As far as my experience goes, i have a stingray since 98, used it a lot in the early days but when around 2005 or something like that i remember i did get a jazz bass and after that a warwick 5er... since then it didn't get much play....such a shame. And all the other basses got replaced with another Jazz bass. In the meantime in the recent years i found myself looking after a Fender telecaster bass (from 68 which is essentially the 51 P bass reissue) and i also grabbed a bargain for an Ibanez blazer from 81 (it's one of the most perfect Precision Bass copies made in japan i've ever seen, they sound wicked). I also had a chinese P bass but that was gone quick. I've tried several USA p's and i really like them (although not all of them) . I agree on the fact that they "sit" around the music very well. It's not a case that some of the best players used that bass. When you get the "right" model in your hands, you understand why it is so popular. so what's wrong with the stingray? Well, gotta say, after some years i didn't use it, when i got it out of the dusty case and played, i just loved the feel of the neck and the playability....it's a damn light bass too. Unplugged, I did rediscover my Musicman wow....loved it and appreciated every bit of its build. The problem came when i plugged back in and try to tweak the sound. Both in my room or playing situation couldn't get that tight bottom end you get from passive basses and tweaking the amp. I was upset and there you go, it went to sleep under the bed once again. So more playing with the Jazz. Then recently, again i felt i had to give another try on my musicman, so i changed the strings and put flats on it, seemed better, tried it live...still disappointing. I was about to give up and i really wanted to sell it! Then...all of a sudden (thank you talkbass) i have consulted some members of that forum and i've found the answer to all MM problems....... CHANGE PREAMP. That's when i got to find out all the differences with the "old and new" musicman company. The stock preamp that comes with the bass, the 3 Eq, it's awful in my view. Bad bad bad idea they had there at the Ernie ball to swap that since 87. Probably many people here know that it was a 2 Eq system that came with the bass before that year. And that's how you get the Ernie, Pre-Ernie and all that jazz... At least, they didn't touch other important bits like the pickups. Those are always been the same design since the first stingray. There at Ernie Ball, They've contoured the body and added the plastic slot for the battery rather than using the screwdriver. Little "improvements" here and there that made the bass look and feel just more modern. But regarding the EQ they put on it, they should be ashamed of selling the stingray at that price with that thing in it, it definitely ruins its sound. anyway, i looked into aftermarket preamps (JE?) and once i swapped that rubbish with the new thing i gotta say.... you can't go wrong with the stingray after surgery. They are built so well that when you find the right pup/pre combination so the sound you want is there, you will actually hardly touch other basses. In fact I am totally gonna use it tomorrow. I am also selling my jazz bass for this reason (Look other thread) The Stingray is a killer bass especially with the preamp swapped, it's gonna feel and sound right. Mine is finally not sitting under the bed anymore. Regarding the P bass, well i love that too and if i Had the money i would get a 60s one, even with that one you can't go wrong. I use the tele anyway, which has the same characteristics of the P, maybe just a little darker tones but i Love darker than brighter anyway so... from my tiny point of view i just guess that if you are a working musician, you may not have many basses in your collection but these 3 (or at least 2 of them) kinda must be included in your weaponry P bass J bass Stingray and a good 5er or 6er for the crazy stuff!
11. Obviously as it sounds awkward to sell something straight away, I want to state that anybody interested in trying/purchasing my jazz, he will have to come to my place preferably. I also prefer not to parcel this instrument as it's not right as it's a very nice guitar. I have played it for long 5 years and god only Remembers how many gigs it has gone thru.. It has been my main axe, these japanese made Instrument are just as good as. For the record I also own a 68 tele bass original and a stingray. I want to get on those more but Always been scared to carry them around to gigs because of getting stolen but I have to get past this and be able to use what I have... Anyway, I'm here for any question, The bass is all original btw (pups and pre) Thank you!
12. Hello basschat! I am a new member and i love this forum. I begin my membership with the sale of one of my gigging beauties unfortunately... It will have to go as the rent for the next month it's still a question mark. anyways, pictures are attached.. I am considering swaps only if you are gonna offer me a Yamaha TRB 6 ii! it doesn't have to be the top notch one, I am good with the basic version. Let me know, I am East London based. Thank you!
