  1. Does anybody know anything about Andrew Schroetter double basses? This one has had very tough white stuff spilled through the f hole and covering the label. I have used hot water to help peel the label away from the PVA so I can read it from behind. But I have off course lost some of the writing in the process so reading the Model number is difficult and the Serial next to hopeless. However I can read A Schroetter and see the logo and..... Model: AS-B60-4?4 Serial: ???0-11 It has a carved front and back. The back is shaped not flat. There seem to be various schools of thought as to whether older models (i'm guessing this is one) were made in Mittenwald, Poland or Czech. Anybody know? Somebody has worked hard to keep this in playable condition but unfortunately appears to have stripped the varnish and given it an unsightly red wash.
  2. I'm trying to work out how to mark this as sold. This sold yesterday March 20. Many thanks for looking

I am selling this bass on behalf of a school. I believe it was donated to the school by the Royal Military Band. It appears to have had little use by the school, probably as they had no pupils big enough to play it. As a result it is in surprisingly good condition for a school instrument. It has a laminated back but I think that the front is carved. At some point, the neck has been damaged but it looks to have had a robust repair (please see photos). I don't know how old the strings are or have any information about when it last had the set-up checked. We are in the Ipswich area of Suffolk. 5. I've been asked by a school to sort out their unused instruments so that they can raise some money towards buying some new ones. There are two flat backed German full sized double basses to be sold. Both are in remarkably good condition as they haven't had much use I reckon. I believe they are ex Royal Military Band instruments. Both have a small label which says 'Made in Germany. Both have a laminated back. Both have an attractive purfling design on the back. One has had a neck repair. The only difference I can see is that one has purfling down the back joint Would anybody like such a beast and want to make the school a sensible offer? Can anybody suggest a good auction room in the East Anglia area which might sell them? I have more photos. Thanks for looking Peter
