  1. Looks like the MIM wins it then...this is it:
  2. I was just about to go ahead and buy a surf green J & D for £119 delivered, when I have just been offered a MIM Fender Jazz deluxe series in excellent condition, for £250.....white with a tort pickguard.... So I have a dilemma, is there THAT MUCH of a difference in quality between the two? I want the bass purely for home use so do I go for the cheap and cheerful J&D or pay more than double and go for the Fender, it's a 1997/8 model..... Any views? Thanks Nige
  3. I have one I bought it because I run a uke club so the HB uke bass should fit in fine . What can I say? The ONLY thing I don't like about it is the very light colour satin finish. I'm thinking of staining it ebony or a dark colour, this is purely my own preference though, the uke itself I can't fault, mine has the white 'Rubber band' strings but they're not sticky at all. I play it regularly and for the price it's an absolute bargain! Nige
  4. Well thank you very muchly! My problem is, my birth certificate and my body tell me I'm 62.....my mind tells me I'm a big kid that can still run up and down the Pyg and Pyke track up Snowdon......well, up and down the street... I recently sold off a lot of my full size guitars and kept the half size, here's a pic of the one side of the room, there's more on the floor and other walls. Nige [attachment=161410:SAM_0700.JPG]
  5. Hi, I own a lovely little Samick Greg Benntt Mini Corsair bass, which is tiny at 25" scale, but it suits me perfectly when sat at the computer recording. My problem is this, if tuned EAGB, the strings are too sloppy, so I have been tuning it up 3 frets and at one time had it tuned ADGC...this solved the problem perfectly but.....I really want to tune it regularly as that's what I know best. A friend of mine has suggested I buy a 5 string, low B set and use the 4 bottom strings, from 130 down to 65. If I do this I will also have to recut the nut to accomodate the low B string (Tuned to E) Does anybody on here know if this would work, or have another suggestion? Thanks for your time, Nige[attachment=161385:samick corsair bass body.JPG]
  6. Hi, my name's Nige and I'm an alco....oops! Wrong forum..... Seriously, hi from Wolverhampton. I am a reborn yet again into the world of music at 62 years old, this time as an aspiring bass player. I've played rhythm in various band since my early 20's, mainly on the C & W Cowboy circuits, then in a couple of Blues bands. A couple of years ago I took up the ukulele and formed a club in Sedgley, near to where I live and the club has blossomed into one of the biggest in the area. We don't only have ukes, we have a full time bass player/luthier who is excellent at both, a snare player, a Cajon thumper, various guitars, kazoos, blues harps, an occasional double bass and a mountain dulcimer (Stick dulcimer), great fun and enjoyment for all Our club does charity gigs and in keeping with it being a uke club, several of us have bought rubber band strung bass ukes, which are ok if you can get used to the strings. I myself have bought and sold several bass guitars over the last year, and am still looking for a half decent long scale, in the meantime I make do with a lovely little Samick Greg Bennett Mini Corsair 25" scale, which I love. I have a preference for short intruments as I do a lot of computer recording using Audacity so find small and short scale guitars are better for me. That's about it I suppose. Nige
