  1. Is this still for sale? And if it is, does it have a 1.5" Jazz width nut? Thank you
  2. Telephone rings: Yeh?... Who is it, Frank?... Leo Fender?... Yeh?... Yeh, put him on, will you! Hey, Harry... you wanna pick up the extension?... yeh! it's nutty Leo again! Hi, Leo baby, how are you, guy? How's everything going?... Oh, things are fine here, Leo!... Did we get the what?... Oh!, the boat load of Jazzmasters, yeh! They arrived fine Leo, as a matter of fact they're all still here, we haven’t sold a single one yet! 12 months! What you got for us this time, Leo, you got another winner for us? A Jazz Bass... er, what's a Jazz Bass, Leo?... You were going to call it the Deluxe Model . Yeh, that sounds good But then you decided not to … so it’s not a deluxe model? Oh it is, you just didn’t want to call it that OK well tell me about it. So it’s got a big thick neck like a Jazz Double Bass? It hasn’t. I see .. it’s got the smallest neck on any instrument you’re likely to come across? Jazz players aren’t going to feel at home on it, are they? ha! ha! ha!... So what else? It’s got two pickups? One more than the Precision? Good news! But they’re both quieter than the Precision. Leo, that’s not so good But you’ve put a special circuit in there … Don't tell me, Leo, don't tell me. To make the pickups louder? No you want to make them quieter You see, Leo... we've been a little worried about you, y'know, ever since you told us the Jazzmaster was gonna be the biggest seller yet I think you're gonna have rather a tough time selling people on buying quiet sounding basses with little necks And then you built that amp called a Bassman For bass guitars But everyone plays guitars through it instead I can’t make sense of that Perhaps you should think about selling the business to a TV company ha! ha! ha!...they really wouldn’t know the difference between a guitar and a bass, would they. That could be a good move ha! ha! ha!... Listen, Leo... don't call us... we'll call you!... G'bye!
  3. I classify myself as a beginner too Your approach should depend on what your goal is If all you want to do is play to amuse yourself, I can recommend the following Find stuff that you really want to play - this provides motivation - the key ingredient Use Amazing SlowDowner to play along with (I raise the track by an octave, turn all the EQ down apart from the second from the left, and slow down. Use loops to get the notes right) Don't beat yourself up if the piece is too hard, move on to something easier And alter the key if it's in E flat or F sharp - who cares? Just enjoy yourself
  4. I have one of these - it's a great instrument - very underrated. The neck is very shallow, probably the easiest Precision neck around. And it packs quite a punch in terms of sound. I hope to get the Jazz version at some stage, but only because I'm struggling with a wide fingerboard due to my advanced years ... Good luck
  5. You certainly need to make your own mind up I'm a guitarist, retraining on bass. I wanted a practice amp, with a really good sound I ended up with a Fender Rumble 200 v3 and am very happy with it. The key to this amp is the Vintage button. The sound to my ears has a dense core to it - the other amps I tried were loud but somehow lacking in depth. Also, I like larger speakers - the 200 is a 1x15 with a tweeter It's very light and looks really good
  6. Thomastik JF344 Long Scale Flatwound Strings Brand new - Unopened Spent hours and hours doing the research - these are the best The strings arrived Then I realised - I've got a headless bass ... Price includes signed for delivery
  7. I'm a guitarist but have turned to bass because I can make some fairly fast progress and seems a lot of fun in my declining years My guitar style is very much BB King while my bass hero is James Jamerson I suggest that you forget about the valve vs SS debate and try out lots of different amps until you find one you like. The only problem might be that what sounds good in a shop (and at home) may not stand up so well on a gig You read loads of stuff about gear like "The best amp I ever used was an xxx" but it's only a matter of opinion. The conclusion I've come to is to most punters out there won't know the difference. And even if you were a punter yourself, things can often sound very different when you're 50 feet from the stage in the middle of a full audience We choose gear because it appeals to us - I would follow your instincts. If it HAS to be a valve amp, get a valve amp But if not, keep an open mind
