Total Watts

1. A bit of a late update... but... after spending a long time borrowing amps and playing straight through a PA, I finally bought a combo... not quite as small as I had originally intended, but chose a Rumble 500 in the end and it's so good! So... thanks for the original advice - and my ears did the deciding for me (that, and the fact that my drummer can be bloody loud!).
2. That seems like a really good price - I played a couple (both were around £450 - £600) and really liked them but couldn't get on with the neck at all. Too chunky for me.
3. Cheers guys - yes, I've got a little Ashdown Peacemaker 20 as my main guitar amp (I'm only masquerading as a bass player really!) and that's been great, so I'm leaning towards the Ashdown as I know it'll be reliable. I did like the Fender though...
4. Ugh. I'm completely racked with indecision. So... short list so far is: Ashdown Mibass combo - surprisingly good, and LOUD, nice tone... but I worry about the 10" speaker at gig volumes. Ibanez P3110 - as above really... probably preferred the Ashdown tonally. Amazingly small little thing though. Fender Rumble 100 v3 - very nice tone, amazingly light, but is 100w going to be enough... but with a 12" speaker it should be less "farty" than a 10? Also - no chance of connecting a second cab. GK MB112 - good, but probably not as nice as the Fender, but seemed louder. TC-E BG250 2x8 - amazingly small little thing - not convinced that it'll cope being turned up loud. The Fender and the Ibanez can be had for peanuts... and I've seen the GK for less than £300 - so that's quite tempting, too. Pfft. Decisions...
5. Good to hear that about the MB112 - that's on my shortlist. Work and DIY keeps getting in the way of trying amps out... boo.
6. Interesting - they look rather like this: http://www.gear4musi...mp-Ex-Demo/136Y JPJ - I've been admiring the PJB stuff from afar... scared that if I play one I'll accidentally end up with one of those Flightcase jobbies...
7. Thanks for the comments. Spaners - would you say that you could do small gigs without an extension cab? or would that be pushing it a bit? I've heard good stuff about the RedSub amps - I know they used to do a nice little head and cab combo, but I can't seem to find that now. Also heard good things about the Ibanez P3110 - but haven't managed to find anywhere local-ish that stocks it. Thanks again chaps!
8. Cheers - really much appreciated. Will report back!
9. Thanks @eude - that's pretty sound advice really. I know that you can connect the TC208 to an external cab, but I'm guessing that by doing that it disables the internal 2x8s... I think I need to find a few hours to go and have a play around.
10. Hmm - cheers for the pointers so far chaps. I did actually have a look at the Ashdown MiBass in Andertons but forgot all about it. That might just be the ideal solution, it was pretty portable! I'm still curious about the little TC250-208 though - it's cheap and tiny... which would suggest it might also be a bit naff, but you never know.
11. Hi all, I'm a relatively new bass player, having only really been playing seriously for about 6 months, and the time has come that I could really do with my own little bass combo rather than DI-ing or stealing somebody else's! I don't really have a vast budget, ideally I'd like to spend about £300, and the smallest size possible would be great as I'm very limited on storage space for it to live. I like the look of the GK MB150s, but it's a bit pricey, and the TC Electronics BG250-208 looks ideal but I wonder how well the 2 x 8" cones would cope? There's no low B's to worry about though and it'd only need to cope with a fairly tame drummer in small-ish pub gigs. Does anyone have any experience of it? Thanks, Ant

Hello!

Hi folks, I'm a guitarist masquerading as a bass player. I've been playing guitar for around about 18 years now, and then had a bass accident about two years ago while my wife was away for a weekend and accidentally bought an Aria IGB. So - I've got the bass bug now, and am now a fairly converted bass-player in a band (nothing serious, just a few pub gigs!) and have just ordered a nice replacement to the Aria - a Cort GB4 Custom. Anyway - I'll probably be lurking most of the time but might start a thread as I can do with some advice on a little combo. Cheers! Ant
