1.
Many thanks, that kind of makes sense Ah okay, yes I think a compromise would be good - I have the 1x10 inch Promethean, so if I added this TC 2x12 (which is exactly the same dimensions as their 2x10) ..........I'd have a bit more bottom end than with the 2x10? http://www.gear4musi...ass-Amp-Cab/E8Z I like their stacking system - I'll be able to lift them! I played through one at the jam last week - sounded awesome to my ears! (2 stacked together but I don't know what size speakers they were) andI could always add to it later I suppose if I decide to go down the separate amp route
Yeah id say the 212 is a safe bet. Not played the tc212. Played the 210 but wasn't taken with it. Would have just preferred a little more push. I primarily play through 2x12's nowadays as i found it a little bit of a better compromise between the bass freq and the punchy tops. Can always throw a 2x10 or 2x8 on top if needed, but the 212 is usually sufficient for most venues i play. But ultimately its down to individual preference. You could always order a couple from the web and send back whatever you don't like. Always found Thomann to have a reasonably good return policy. Good luck.
2. If you want a compromise go for a 1x or 2x12 cab and push a bit more air than a 10inch. If you already have a 1x10 or even a 2x10 a 12inch driver or two will compliment it nicely.
3. +1 for separate head/cab. Can't go wrong with a nice lightweight cab and a class D nowadays. I love my GK 500 Fusion paired with Neo212. Never been a huge fan of combos. I can see the reason for them in the past, keeping fuss to a minimum, but now with so much lightweight gear around you can essentially just put a bass head and a cable in a bag... pick up the cab (lighter without the head built in) and your away. My friend has the Mibass 2.0 and manages to fit the tiny thing in his guitar case. Tiny. But not my cup of cha.
4. I think it depends on who the engineer is whenever you play these bigger venues. If it's your PA and you are the engineer then it's not too much of a problem having your own mic I suppose. But I wouldn't be letting another engineer mess with my expensive mics. Saying that it wouldn't have to be expensive. You could always just use a D112 or similar as I know some engineers do. I would have a preference to use a separate DI exclusive box with a clean feed of your bass and let the bass sing if you have a decent one. I understand some people like the 'sound' that an amp can give but I have always been a fan of not clouding the sound and having a pure clean feed for my bass. But that's just my opinion.
5. +1 for a seperate DI exclusive box. The engineer will want clean feed. If you have a decent bass then let it sing.
6. Class D all the way. I slipped a disk about 6 years ago and the switch to lightweight gear has saved my ability to gig so can only imagine that your backs even worse. 6 vertebre - ouch! My vote for the GK but question the need to go for the 800 Fusion. The 500 is still uber loud and cuts through the mix amazingly and could potentially save you some pennies. Maybe someone here can persuade you otherwise but try the 500 first as I think it would be ample. I currently use the 500 Fusion with the Neo212. Great setup and very lightweight and by far the best matched rig I have owned. Not as clinical as some of the other GK gear due to dialling in the tubes but will give you that GK sound and with tweaking can perform and sound like almost anything else too. I play with other band members who like it loud too and the rig really does hold it's own with headroom to spare. I Don't think you can go wrong with GK. I think a little look at the new Markbass stuff is warrented too. I had an LM3 with 2 NY121's. It was nice being able to seperate the cabs depending on venue/rehearsal. I'm hearing only good things about the BigBang amp but haven't got round to trying it as of yet. I have never played an Aggy so couldn't comment. Other than that I would say try a GB Streamliner or even the Shuttlemax as I know there's often some being sold on on here. And a little nod to the TKS lightweight speakers although if your like me and a stickler for wanting matched rigs then I can't praise the GK stuff enough. Hope you find what your looking for.
