  1. On 30th December 2023 AB Workshops hosts a Fundamentals of Funk and Groove Workshop with the Grainger Brothers; Gary Grainger (Bass) and Greg Grainger (Drums). We are delighted to be able to offer a workshop covering the fundamentals of ‘Funk and Groove’ from two of the industry’s leading artists as part of their 10-date UK December tour with Acoustic Alchemy and G*Funk. The Grainger Brothers’ talent and prowess in the world of music and rhythm are unparalleled. Between the two of them, Gary Grainger on bass and Greg on drums have recorded or performed with the likes of Whitney Houston, Earth Wind & Fire, Lonnie Liston Smith, John Schofield, Maysa, Pure Soul, Mike Stern, Bill Evans, Robben Ford, Nancy Wilson, Dennis Chambers, George Duke, Eric Marienthal, Slim Man, Bill Evans and Nelson Rangell to name but a few, which in part explains why they are so damn good! Additionally, Gary created the seminal ‘Pick Hits Live’ and ‘In the Pocket’ video series with Dennis Chambers and together they created the iconic bass and drum grooves from the two albums, Blue Matter and Loud Jazz with John Schofield. The following topics will be covered: - The purpose of their workshop is to demonstrate the key elements of playing together as a rhythm section, with a key focus on the lock between the drummer and bassists. They will demonstrate their approach to different time signatures and various grooves will be demonstrated and explained. - Greg and Gary will both explain and discuss the importance of their respective instruments and the role they play in music performance. They will explain in detail how they approach their music and look at the key role and significance of listening to and interacting with other musicians in a group setting. - They will also talk about their individual instruments, give a brief history, and explain why they use the brands they currently use. - Greg and Gary will then play various songs and have a question-and-answer session with audience members in what is guaranteed to be a lively and entertaining class with two of the US’s most respected performers. 2. London-born, US-based bass player, and record producer Janek Gwizdala has been on the international music scene for over twenty years, touring as a band leader and working as musical director or sideman with some of the most respected names in the industry. Janek is responsible for laying down the low-end for artists such as Randy Brecker, Jojo Mayer, Mike Stern, Hiram Bullock and many many more. As a band leader, Janek has released records under his own name which combine more influences and genres that you can shake a stick at. While the tag from outside might read ‘Modern Jazz’, delve a little deep and you’ll find so much more! One thing that Janek does do with serious style is manage to splice his love of effects pedals with his varied music style in ways that many other musicians would be insisting on a clean tone. Janek has one of the most musical approaches to the composition of modern music. Janek has collaborated with an incredible array of musicians: Randy Brecker, Mike Stern, Carlos Santana, Hiram Bullock, John Mayer, Airto Moreira, Chuck Loeb, Peter Erskine, Flora Purim, Pat Metheny, Eric Marienthal, Billy Cobham, Chad Wackerman, Bob James, John Patitucci, Rick Margitza, Bob Mintzer, Bob Reynolds, Mitch Forman, Bob Sheppard, Mark Turner, Tosin Abasi, Aaron Parks, Marcus Miller, Jojo Mayer, Paul Shafer, Steve Cropper, Delta Goodrem, Adam Rogers, Gregoire Maret, Clarence Penn, Gretchen Parlato, Horacio El Negro Hernandez, Donny McCaslin, Lenny Castro, Kazumi Watanabe, Brandon Fields, Mark Guiliana, Ronny Jordan, Luis Conte, Dennis Chambers, Lionel Loueke, Kenny Werner, Eric Harland, Steve Smith, Vital Information, Benny Greb, Kenwood Dennard, and Wayne Krantz. As a recording artist, Janek has released twelve albums as band leader; as an author, has published thirteen critically acclaimed books; and has toured the world extensively as both a musician, and as a lecturer & clinician at the world’s leading educational establishments. Don't miss the opportunity to come and see and hear Janek talk and demonstrate all things bass! 4th November - Bournemouth - https://www.abworkshops.com/janek-gwizdala-bass-masterclass-bournemouth/ 6th November - London - https://www.abworkshops.com/janek-gwizdala-bass-masterclass-london/ 8th November - Nottingham - https://www.abworkshops.com/janek-gwizdala-bass-masterclass-london/
