Yes lesson learned there I guess. In short cab went. Ampeg is fine and still working and I'm now using 410 cabs

It was the cab. Opened it up and burning smell present inside. Cab just makes a quiet, buzzy sound now, it is most definitely dead. I'm returning it for a refund.

I shall thanks. I rang Ashdown and the engineers are back in Monday so I'll sound him out then.

I've just checked the RM cab and its farty/buzzy town, it has expired. I'm going to ring Ashdown support as it was new.

Thanks all. I'm going to get the cab looked at before I use it again. Its a mystery how the Ampeg is still going but I've lost confidence in it. I've got a gig coming up and can't risk it. I've bought a TC BQ500 Thrust instead which seems to be just the ticket.

I've recently bought a RM Evo 2 112 cab. It is rated at 300w at 8ohms. I have been running at Ampeg Portaflex 350 which delivers 250w at 8ohm in to it. The ampeg has been cutting out and last practice there was an electric short burning smell from the Ampeg as it cut out and I switched it off sharpish. The Ampeg thankfully still works fine and has always performed well with a bigger 410 400watt rated 8ohm cab and zero issue. Is the issue that the cab is not correctly rated or is the Ampeg overloading? Any help appreciated ?

There used to be a few metal four string basses that came set up from factory with low tunings. I’m thinking brands like ESP/Jackson/Schecter perhaps it was signature models from Korn or Deftone bassists. Speak to a local guitar tech discuss what you want and see whether you’d need extended range.

At those prices why not have a double helping!

HI I'm in a rock Power Trio. I'm running a Ibanez Talman with a precision type tone (EMG Geezer PJ) through Ampeg Portaflex and Laney 410. The main part of my sound is coming from my Hartke Bass Attack Preamp pedal- Discontinued but I highly recommend one if you can find one. It adds massive girth and presence to my tone. If I need a bit more colour I add in some OD from my Ampeg Scrambler pedal. My current board looks like this:
