  1. guy at my work's got one, nice bass, custom made in Mexico with USA hardware, sounds great apparently. 2 batches made so far, all sold out, cost £1200 i think plus import duties etc. most people buying are Mark Hoppus fans and will keep and treasure their bass, but this guy on eBay presumably bought one with the intention of flipping for a big profit and he might just get it.
  2. don't know why i'm defending this bass, which i also think is dodgy - must be the vodka - but the serial number also says it's a 1972 USA job, depending on which website you check, and the neck has binding , which means it would also have blocks on the fretboard rather than dots, which means decals wouldn't cover them, right? not buying or selling, just genuinly interested in something i haven't seen before!
  3. i've never seen a Fender with fretboard inlays like this before. and the metal parts, are they actually gold or is it the lighting? don't think i've seen a gold ashtray before either... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/154810027071?hash=item240b658c3f:g:MCsAAOSwgWJh7t8~
  4. Boss OC-3 Super Octave pedal, great condition. Comes in original box with owners manual. No power supply included. £70 with free 1st class signed for delivery.
  5. does look well made to be fair, but he maybe goes a step too far with this one?! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Precision-Bass-Style-Electric-Bass-fabric-finish/164765055814?hash=item265cc33b46:g:rsYAAOSw-gJfutmw
  6. was playing the bass i bought from Alain tonight and realised it had become my first choice, well certainly in the top 3... definitely top 4! anyway i remembered i hadn't left him feedback. he described the bass as "immaculate" and it really was! he drove a not insignificant distance to meet me at a dodgy service station aswell, and was a really nice guy in person. would have loved to have chatted to him for longer but the experience of seeing a half naked trucker washing himself in the service station bathroom really shook me. buy stuff from Alain! he has great taste and can be trusted!
  7. 28 high res photos can be found here: https://1drv.ms/u/s!Aqs1wvM2VoRL5WyjtYZt0QgB5RQY?e=Qlo9um The time has come to part ways with my beloved StingRay. Bought new in 1995 with the entirety of that years student loan, I literally went hungry for this bass! Gigged regularly over the next few years, it was my pride and joy and I did my best to look after it. But while fame and fortune eluded me, the trials and tribulations of a regular life did not, so the StingRay was eventually side-lined, even more so in years to come when I developed a preference for Jazz basses. So here we are. As much as I would like to keep the StingRay for sentimental reasons, it’s a waste of a great bass. Finish is Transparent Teal. Weight is 4.1kg. Condition is very good for its age. There is some light buckle rash on the back which hasn’t gone through the lacquer, a small ding on the bottom near the strap pin, and some light scuffs and a small dent on the side below the control panel. These are barely noticeable and were very hard to show in the photos! The back of the neck is also a bit dirty looking from many many hours of use, and the pickup poles are a little rusty. The action is set low. Comes fitted with a rosewood scratchplate, and 2 plastic alternatives (the one with the reflective green circles on is the original). No new holes were drilled for either of the additional scratchplates. The knobs have been replaced by cool aluminium ones, but the electrics and pickup are untouched and original. I will include the original 4 knobs but one of them is tarnished beyond repair. The tuners are also quite dull looking but I imagine they would polish up fine if you wanted to. The bass sounds as it should with no crackles. Comes in an original hard case which is covered in scuffs but still closes firmly and securely. Price is £900 if you collect, or I can meet you within 30 minutes of Dundee, or you can send your carrier to collect (at your risk). I will reluctantly ship to any mainland UK address for an extra £50. Outwith the UK, I dunno, contact me and I’ll look into the cost with insurance. Will accept payment by bank transfer, PayPal, or cash, depending on the collection/delivery circumstances. Please don’t tempt me with trades! I have already bought a bass to replace this one!! Thanks,
  8. is that the Quarter Pound pickup on there? thanks,
  9. received my 4th wiring loom from John yesterday and fitted it last night. good advice, quality parts, easy fitting, fast delivery, as always.
  10. Hi, does anyone know what size allen key i need to adjust the height of the saddles on a Gotoh 201 bridge? turns out the 1.27mm allen key which came with my jazz bass is too big and that's the smallest one i've got...! thanks!
  11. i contacted John with no real idea of what i wanted or what i was doing! he listened to what i said, suggested something better, and before i knew it my new wiring harness arrived in the post. was easy to install and made a huge difference to my sound. my Jazz bass has been revitalised, as has my enthusiasm for playing! thank you John!
  12. there don't seem to be any loose wires. i've attached a photo as requested. where do i find out more about a loom from Ki0gan? i'm thinking about replacing all these pots myself but i have never soldered anything in my life! thanks for your help
  13. Hi! I recently bought a used 2011 American Standard Jazz Bass. everything seemed fine to start with but then my signal started to randomly distort. after trying 2 brand new leads I figured the problem was the bass. so I took off the control panel and I’m no expert but the wiring does not look right to me. the neck volume control has the white wire from the neck pickup attached. that’s it. the bridge volume control has the black wire from the neck pickup attached, and the black ground wire, and both wires from the bridge pickup, and the bridge wire. 3 short white wires connect the neck volume to the bridge volume to the tone pot to the output jack. seems odd the output jack only has one wire attached to it. I’ve seen a variety of diagrams online so I’m not sure what’s right or wrong here apart from the neck pickup which obviously shouldn’t be attached to 2 volume controls. would this configuration explain the random distortion? any idea why someone has wired it like this? what were they trying to achieve?! thanks!
