1. New cover up: Atlas Novus. There are some mistakes in there, but I'm working on it. I need to get a thicker sound somehow. Working on getting a pedal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3r483v4eR3c Hope you enjoy the sound! - André
2. Hi, A few weeks ago the Warwick Thumb NT 6 I'd been waiting for arrived. Thanks to CamdenRob for a swift and safe delivery. During the winter break I thought I'd start getting grips with this beast. I'm used to four strings, so six was quite the change, but I really like it. The neck feels short on this thing compared to the rather long-feeling neck of my Jackson Kelly or Richwood. I don't really know why, to be honest. But it feels great to play. I believe it's because the body is short and the neck rests closer to the body. It makes things easier to play, too. After adjusting the action and setting it up with my preference, the sound... it's tremendous... it has a real roar to it. I really love this bass . So with a new instrument comes new challenges, of course; and also fun. I'm going to be covering all of the tracks from The Migration and The Collective from the band Scale the Summit. Starting with Odyssey. I did a recording the other day which I thought I would share; didn't really know how loudly to mix the bass over the rest of the track, but it's a start. I will be getting a compressor but I am researching which one still. Maybe I'll make a few videos to showcase what this bass can do in the future. If you want to hear something specific which you would like me to record then let me know I will update the thread continuously with new recordings. I will probably cover other tracks from other prog artists later on. Anyways, let's end this wall of text. Enjoy ! 3. Purchased a Warwick Thumb NT 6 from Rob which arrived whole and nicely packed! His communication was great and he had answers to all of my questions. Rob is trustworthy and I would easily consider purchasing something from him again. Thanks again Rob! - André
4. Interesting points Linear, thanks! I intend to both jam and record. I ordered the Scarlett 2i2. It's going to sound great with the Warwick! Can't... wait... - André
5. Thanks for all of the answers . Looks like I'll have to write that letter hastily!
6.
Small mixing desk i.e. Soundcraft Spirit Folio. Opens up a number of options, as you can add practically any source with the correct adaptors Just check the desk has a headphones out socket
Interesting!
You can specify the output of your computer to the usb interface, thus what you listen to can be from the computer into the interface and then listened through the headphones, monitor speakers or hifi via the interface, with the added bonus that the interface will probably have a better digital/analogue converter so that the quality is better than the computers own sound output.
Alright, that makes sense! Then I suppose what I need to find an appropriate interface. What is the most common low-mid budget module that people use? For instance, the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 which was mentioned in the recording thread seems pretty good. What do people typically like to use? I intend to record on top of drum/guitar tracks + jamming on top of music in general. Is there a dedicated thread to audio interfaces that I can dig into? I looked around a little bit - I guess obliviousness strikes again! Thanks a lot for the answers so far! You people are a huge help! - André
7. Hi Drax! I do indeed intend to record. The thread you mentioned was forwarded to me yesterday - the one thing I wonder is if the external audio input device gets read as a separate audio output device? I imagine that these devices act as 'microphone' in a way, which feeds into my computer through a USB socket, and then gets output through my primary sound device. What I don't want is it being a separate sound device which I need to set as primary sound device in order to hear the audio output from my instrument. If that were the case then I'd lose the computer audio instead and would have to choose one or the other. They need to be combined, and I'm still not sure if that's the case most of the time. Thought I'd reach out and see what the deal is with this? I feel like there is something here I've missed... Thanks for the response , - André
8.
a usb interface may help, mine allows me to set a level between what comes out of the computer and what is coming directly from the guitar/input
Hey RockfordStone. So what you're saying essentially is that you are able to feed out both your instrument and the audio from your operating system directly to your headphones/speakers? What do you mean exactly by 'setting a level'? Do you mean that you can change the output volume of your instrument/amp via the USB interface - before it's mixed with the audio output from the operating system? If that is the case, then I might need to look into such a device. What is it that you use? I need to start my research somewhere. Thanks! - André
9. Thanks! @ FinnDave - Haha, close enough I suppose!
10. Hello! I looked around a bit on the forums and tried to find a similar thread but couldn't find what I was looking for... So either I am blind or I am just using the wrong search terms. Burn me if you must. What I have: I have my bass + 60Hz hartke speaker (and my desktop computer). A pair of AKG K701 reference headphones. What do I need in order to playback my bass through computer into my headphones and still be able to feed audio from windows? I'm assuming I would have to have some sort of gear linked between my amp and my computer. I am in unfamiliar territory. Help! I enjoy playing along to music and also recording bass tracks over other pre-recorded tracks (guitar/drums etc.) However... I don't want to drive my neighbours crazy so I'm looking for a solution. Thankfully they haven't come knocking yet. I used to live in a place where this wasn't a problem and have never needed to investigate this before. I would like to be able to do this in any case, even if I didn't have neighbours. Basically, I want to eliminate all sound outside of my headphones and have it all contained within my AKGs. I'm sure there is a multitude of people around here who can relate and have already solved this conundrum! Even though I can't find those threads. Thanks for reading ! - André
11. Hello! I'm a Sweden-based bassist with a mere 22 years on my neck. I have played the bass intermittently since my early teenage years. In my late teenage years I played in a technical death metal band (and was into all kinds of music, I suppose I was just looking for my musical identity at the time). After many years I have come to realize that some music has always stuck with me. Progressive rock mostly... I'm quite into the Australian progressive/alternative rock scene at the moment. But I wouldn't be a bassist today if it wasn't for my father. I am extremely grateful that he led me on the right path (subjective). He played me a Thin Lizzy record when I was young and jealous of my brother, who had just gotten a guitar for his birthday. My father explained that there were other instruments that make up music, too. Of course that was an obvious fact, but I guess I was just so fixated on the fact that my brother had gotten the chance to learn an instrument, that I wanted the same thing (kids will be kids). I inherited my father's old vinyl player which he owned when he himself was just a teenager. I started playing random records from his old collection and slowly started to learn what I enjoyed listening to (by realizing I would do repeated listens to some records). What I quickly learned was that I was very fond of Rush and Thin Lizzy. Geddy Lee and Phil Lynott were great role models for my early bass playing years. They were both center stage figures within their respective bands and that was an inspiration. Since then I have spiraled into all fields of music and I listen to a wide variety of music. I realize now that I really haven't shared this story with anyone... I hope it might bring some nostalgia/memories to anyone reading this . I own a 60Hz Hartke speaker with a Jackson Kelly bass (one of these): http://fc07.devianta...k69-d4r5vmt.jpg At my parent's home I have my cheap Richwood bass which is almost not even worth mentioning. But everybody loves their first instrument! I found this lovely website when I was looking for a new bass (Warwick Thumb NT 6). I've got a deal going already and I'm really stoked! I'm going to stick around, because I have quite a few questions in my backpocket . Thanks for reading, - André
