1. I started out learning guitar and continued to try my hand at that for a few years but with little effort. I always found myself paying more attention to baselines of songs and being fascinated by how simple or complicated they could be from song to song. Watching a Thin Lizzy live performance with my Dad got bass in my head, just how Phil commanded the stage despite playing an instrument I was always told by some of my friends was meant to support the guitarist and was part of the background, also his baselines weren't too shabby either. Listening to more and more music and getting into other bands helped, being introduced to players like Justin Meldal-Johnsen who can play pretty much anything got me hooked! Now I am a little older I understand and appreciate the significance of the bass so much more and have long since fallen in love with it. I still have a fiddle on my guitar but somehow bass just feels right to me.
 2.
Hello again Mike, As Gelfin says, the Cardiff bass bash is one to keep an eye out for Gelfin himself kindly puts this event on, and I'd highly recommend coming along It's a great way to meet other local bass players, and swap ideas, ask questions, or indeed answer a few Several of us bring gear along, and it's a great opportunity to try out a bass, an amp, or some effects The regular attendees are a great bunch, really friendly etc So we hope to see you at the next one.... Cheers again
Thanks for all the information so far, I really have felt welcome on this forum I'll have to keep an eye out for the next date
 3.
Hi again Mike. Who convinced you that John was "wonderfully talented and friendly" ? Actually he is.
I had heard from other musicians and friends how talented and helpful Jon is, I've been enjoying every lesson! Having the right bass and the right teacher has really helped me find my stride with regards my own development.
 4. Thanks guys! I have heard about the Bass Bashes, it would be great to be around fellow musicians. The lessons are going great, Jon is an excellent tutor and very knowledgable! I'm looking forward to communicating with like minded folk and learning as much as I can and just having fun here. Felt a bit daunted before I started lessons, used to think I should know more about equipment and musical theory but I'm just going to have fun and pick up as much as I can.
 5. Hello everybody, My name is Mike and I'm a fledgling bass player from Cardiff. I'm currently using an Epiphone Toby Deluxe IV Bass and my Line 6 practice amp. I'm also taking lessons from the wonderfully talented and friendly Jon Caulfield. Just wanted to say hi and am looking forward to diving in head first and contributing to this great community!
