  1. Hearing Mark King for the first time back in the 80's blew me away. But then I spent years with my bass glued to my chin and far too much insulation tape cutting off the circulation to my thumb Notable mention to Pino & Bernard of course.
  2. SOLD Hey Guys, I've got a Neo Neon SRC-129 19" 1U power conditioner for sale. Its new and boxed. I don't really want to post it, as I would prefer collection from BH22 Bournemouth, Dorset postcode. Thanks for looking
  3. I have the Korg Pitchblack Pro, which is fantastic except for the plastic rack ears. What a stupid idea! I have taken some mild steel 1U ears from a Netgear router to use as a backup. The ears will not slide onto the tuner, but you can easily use a couple of small screws and wind them into the side of the plastic bodied tuner. As small as the tuner is, there is loads of space inside. The screws wont touch any of the internals. I would recommend getting this unit. When I fitted mine I used nylon washers under the mounting screws AND between the ears and the rack frame rail to alleviate any twisting movement that could snap the ears.
  4. I like Wonky2's suggestion's. How about "Councillor Fudge" that always make me laugh, or just pick a name from Roger Mellies Profanisaurus.... "Dutchblindfold", "Darth Vaders Hat Stand", the list is endless.
  5. The guys in the band are taking the piss because my Amp rack lights up like a Christmas tree, so I thought I would go the whole way and illuminate the trolley. No additional stage lighting required
  6. Thanks guys. I really appreciate the comments, makes me want to do another one now
  7. Hello all. I've always wanted to own a fretless bass, but didn't want to pay too much money on one, just I case I decided it wasn't for me. Lurking in the back of my garage, I had a old cheap Musicman copy bass that I purchased from a local pawn shop some time ago. This became my practice conversion bass, so I wasn't worried if I wrecked it. I only used filler in the slots, and left the roundwounds on. The nut and saddles both had to be filed to reduce the ultra high action. It was a bit of a Frankenstein bass, but served a purpose, and did not cost me one penny. Moving on to the subject bass, I found a Ibanez EDB550 on Gumtree for sale quite near to me that I purchased for £120. After stripping it down and giving it a general service and clean up, I proceeded to remove the frets. At this point please bear in mind that I am not a Luthier and do not pretend to be one. All tools, gauges, radius blocks etc were made or modified from existing equipment and supplies in my garage. The frets were carefully removed using a pair of modified end cutters. The usual sanding and cleaning process followed. I filed the nut and the saddles and made a slight truss rod adjustment. A good friend of mine does marquetry and has a large selection of wood veneers. We found a maple sample that was the correct thickness to occupy the slot left by the fret, so I cut strips with a very sharp scalpel and glued them in. More sanding followed. The neck was given a wipe of lemon oil and several coatings of carnauba wax, then re-strung with some flatwounds. It sounds great, and I use it for a couple of tracks at rehearsals. I hope some of you may have found this useful. I'm sure there are many more who are saying "why the hell did you do that?" Well im no expert, just trying to save a few quid. If anybody has any constructive criticism, then please reply, and thanks for looking.
  8. Hello all. I've been trying to play bass since the early 80's LOL, when I had a Westone Thunder 1A, and a Aria Pro II. I'm currently in a band that I quit, re-joined, quit, sold my Ashdown rig, then re-joined again, and have just purchased yet another rig (Ashdown ABM 410 & 115 cabs and a Hartke HA3500 head rack mounted with a Korg Pitchblack Pro tuner & power conditioner). Current basses are MIM Marcus Miller Fender, Ibanez BTB770 and a Ibanez EDB550 that I've just de-fretted. I'm not a luthier, but it turned out really well. If anyone is interested, i'll post some pics and work notes. I also have a Boss GT10-B pedal, its great, but I don't have time to figure the bloody thing out!
