1.
That is gorgeous and my ideal Jazz bass. Love the colour and bet it sounds awesome! Can I ask if you got it in the UK or did you get it from overseas?
hi Clint - sorry for delay in replying - not been on much due to relocation for work. I bought the 64 CS Jazz in the UK through Guitar Guitar.... they are well worth checking out
2. Bump - still a few slots available on 6th May & 13th May auditions in Glasgow.... if you are interested or know of anyone who may be please PM me....
3. I've been more of a jazz bass player than a P bass player over the years. My first, which I still have, was/is a 1972 black with black scratchplate, rosewood board. Its got a couple of scuff from being well played over the years but othewise its in mint condition & plays beautifully. I've also got a 1975 maple neck Jazz - the body was originally sunburst but its been stripped & sanded. Its quite a bit heavier than the '72 & has a much hotter output. My favourite bass & a relatively recent purchase is a '64 Custom Shop Jazz in British Racing Green, with matching headstock, with a mint green scratch plate.
4. Wow - this place needs a SD Curlee appreciation page too!
5. Good on you for cancelling. You'd be lucky to hire a PA/engineer for £200! PA is most definitely not in the 'backline & breakables' categories
6. Sorry for hopping on this thread but would any Scottish bass players be interested in this? 7. I'd be up for a Scottish bass bash..... but moving southward in a couple of months time
8. +1 Travis is an excellent player & a great bass educator
9. Looks great.... if it weren't for an imminent & very expensive relocation down south.....
10. Bass: depending on the situation generally a Sadowsky Metro 5 string (have 3 & usually take 2 with me), '64 custom shop jazz, 2012 American Std P, Wal Mk II & Overwater 5 string freltesses. Amp: depending on situation again, for small gigs a Euphonic Audio iAmp 350 with 10" EA extension cab, medium gigs a TC Electronic RH450 with TC 2x12 & 1x12 cabs, larger gigs EBS TD650 or SWR SM500 with EMS Neoline 2x12 & 2x10 cabs. Effects: dont tend to bother with them, TC Ditto looper & Boss OC-2 on occasion
11. My first P was a cheap plywood catalogue bass (Kay maybe?) which almost put me off P basses for life. It was my only bass at the time so I loved it as I did not know any better but it had dead spots all over the neck, terrible hum/buzz problems & sounded horribly thin (maybe that had a lot to do with the 10W Badger practice amp I was rocking in those halcyon days!). I played the hell out of that bass but eventually stepped up to a 'light years ahead quality/playability wise' Ibanez Musician & barely touched the pseudo P thereafter; despite sticking an EMG pickup in it (still sounded crap) & 'customising' it with a sticker in a familiar font which had the german word for sugar on it - almost passed for 'fender' but on closer inspection actually looked more like a four letter word! I rediscovered the Precision when I was shopping around for a 70's jazz bass. Found a well used maple neck '75 precision which had been refinished in 10 colour sparkle. It instantly felt right & delivered the classic P bass tone that my F***er was sadly lacking. Still have it today, with a set of D'Addario black tape wounds that have been on there for 4 years or more. Sounds great - here's me playing a bit of Aretha on it. https://www.youtube....h?v=cEj4TkUzjZc I bought a Custom Shop '64 jazz which I loved & was contemplating buying a custom shop P as I'd rekindled my love for Chuck Rainey's playing - had a massive P bass shoot out in Guitar Guitar with MIMs, MIJs, American Standards, Custom shop & a few other rarities including P's from other makers; tried them all back to back & opted for a 2012 P bass which is my main P bass today & the bass I play the most. Here's a recent vid of me doing another Chuck Rainey classic - strung with Thomastik Infeld JF344s. https://www.youtube....h?v=6cNK3hfEw-M
