1. God, this is such a good amp! I was rehearsing last night in my covers band, playing guitar and singing a little, and all I could do was think about how good I'd sound if I were filling the bass slot! I think I may be "coming out" as a bass player... There are probably support lines for this, right? One thing that I think would enhance the Rumble is the inclusion of LEDs or lit buttons on the top - the Bright, Contour and Vintage switches could do with illumination to see which one is depressed, as it's hard to tell otherwise.
2.
They're good bits of kit. Great tone. I assume you got the combo.
Yeah - the combo. Really light, I'm amazed that there's so much sound coming out of it!
3. Hi - thought I'd post this, my Fender Rumble 500 arrived the other day and it's brilliant!!! I know I'm new to bass stuff, and probably couldn't distinguish between good stuff and chaff as easily as you guys, but to my ears it offers so much! It's really brought my Yamaha BB425 alive, particularly the low B string. Anyway, this is a clip of me testing it out, along with some guitar stuff. Mark. 4. This thread has been resurrected at a good time, given that I'll be purchasing a Rumble 500 as soon as someone buys my PRS.
5. Thanks for the replies all, really appreciated.
6. Yeah - thanks guys, since starting this thread and trawling the forum, the Rumble 500 is looking way more attractive...
7. Hi - I'm thinking of getting something a little better for home and possibly jam/gig use. I don't really have a style in mind, just something loud enough to gig and rehearse with, something with a decent sound. I was looking at the TC Elecronics BG250 line - from the YouTube clips I've seen they seem like pretty good in terms of bang for your buck. I'm assuming that these are relatively cheap and light weight, so they'll be compromised in terms of their sound, but I'm not planning to play the Albert Hall any time soon. Just to be able to get a better sound than my Harley Benton practice amp and the option to play with other people if necessary. Thoughts welcome.
8. Thanks, guys - interesting stuff.
9. Hey - so I'm a relatively new bass player, although a long time guitarist (some 30 years). I've often dipped in to bass, but last year I bought my first half way decent instrument (a Yamaha 5 string BB series bass), and I'm taking it all a little more seriously. I have a question about picking fingers. As a guitarist I use all digits on my right hand to pluck, particularly on acoustic, and a plectrum and fingers on electric. My guitarist mentality states that more is better - therefore, when I started to learn bass I was keen to use as many fingers as I could on my right hand, rather than just the boring old two fingers. More Billy Sheehan than Steve Harris, if you know what I mean. I'm getting better with 3 fingers, but I'm still way more fluid and consistent if I use just 2. Four is out of the question, as my pinky is way too small to reach... Should I persevere with 3, or accept the received wisdom that 2 is superior? Or just use a pick?
10. I've done it on a Yamaha SG guitar - one thing that made it easier for me is a pair of Stew Mac fret removing pliers - they sit flush with the fretboard and make it really easy to just prise them out. As above, go steady and the tearing will be minimal - even if you do pull out splinters of fretboard, that can be relatively easily corrected with Superglue - just make sure you keep the splinters.
11. Howdy all - thought I'd say a quick hello. I've been playing lead guitar since I was almost 14, that's just over 30 years now. Despite dabbling with a couple of cheap basses in that time, I've only recently started to take it seriously. I'm currently trying to cure myself of "guitarist turned bass player" syndrome, meaning that I'm trying to understand something called "groove", and figure out exactly what it is that chromatic runs can do for me. Guitar gear is extensive - bass gear, not so much. Really nice (for the price) Yamaha BB425, underwhelming but OK-ish Harley Benton amp, and a Zoom B1Xon. However, I mostly record my bass into Sonar X3, using Amplitube. Cheers all. Mark.
