  1. The Traditional strings are going well for me, and I now plan to keep them on for the immediate future anyway. But time on the instrument has been limited by health issues, and this is slowing progress (and string assessment). They are certainly doing the job I need now though.
  2. Have had the 'traditional' strings on my NS WAV about a week now, hard to know just how much of a difference they make, due to my extreme newbie state with the EUB. The trad set do seem to need greater tension, so I think this helps with bowing. Also the sustain seems less on plucking, so creates a more acoustic feel. But it will take quite a while and some swaps between the regular and trad sets before I settle on my keepers.
  3. I bought a NS WAV recently, and wanted to be able to make it useable on the endpin, so converted a camera tripod I had lying around doing nothing. Just completed and it seems to be good. Additions made with plywood and reclaimed parts, plus retaining strap pinched from a guitar stand, so cost me nothing. Packs down small, quite light, and into the bag that came with the tripod. Time and experience will tell how it works out in the real world...
  4. Just came across this thread. It stopped before the end of the build so I thought I'd add my bit because I'd love to see the end result. Back in 2016 I spent a great week on a course with Jon Shuker building a custom bass. It's what I use as my avatar. Great week with a great man. And a great result. After a year I went back to fine tune the bass, and came a way with an Artist as well, which had been returned, so special price. It is a superb piece of work, and everyone who hears it loves the tone. So is there any more news of your build?
  5. Will do. Bow and strings due this week, so it will be a little time (next week at least) until I can assess things.
  6. Thanks downunderwonder, I was about to order the HS Trads from Bass direct, but have just ordered from the Acoustic centre. Saved me £20, ta! Now in the first couple of weeks with my WAV 4, bought for jazz, but also folk which is why I want to bow.
  7. My new bass arrived yesterday so I'm starting to come to terms with the changes from bass guitar. I'm sure I will love this instrument once we get to know one another better... I have played a fretless for some time, and find this helps with the intonation, being used to listening and sliding slightly if necessary to hit the note aimed for. Next step to get the setup feeing right and watch instruction vids etc. Bass chat is so great for finding advice on this sort of thing!
  8. Hello ezbass , I am about to join the club, had notice today that my new WAV4 is on its way!! I'm a latecomer to bass, been playing bass guitar for about 6 years, and have found myself playing jazz and folk largely, so have given way to temptation and gone for exactly the same EUB. So I expect I'll be on here too, with questions about the new girl in my collection, and will be following your progress with interest. exciting weekend coming up if the WAV gets to me here in the sticks on time...
  9. Yes, Jon Shuker is the man! I spent a week building a bass on one of his courses, he is meticulous
  10. Just bought a Chowny CHB-1 through Basschat, so I thought it's about time I said hello. Took up bass about 2 years ago, having messed around with guitars in a half-hearted way for years. But now I've found my home with the bass! Had to sell my motorbike for health reasons, so had some cash to spend on kit. Started with a Squier VM Jazz fretless, then got an Ibanez SR1200, and totally hooked, went on a course with Jon Shuker last year and built myself a 5-string with Sims pickups. He is a great guy and and it's amazing what you can do with expert help. Using an Ashdown Vintage12 practise amp, and a TC RH450 through a Blackfaced super compact cab. Playing a bit of jazz when I get the chance, and looking forward to playing some blues soon...
  11. Just bought a Chowny bass from Tom. Great guy to deal with, bass exactly as described - immaculate. My first deal on basschat, could not have been smoother. Thanks again Tom
