1. Would you be interested in trade for a Markbass Momark 500 at all?
2. Nope, if there was one it must have faded
3.
Body stamp in neck pocket ? It's a bit dark but maybe a custom colour ? 70swere all about brown and orange Pots do have codes, the tech guy is wrong
Here are some pictures of the pot serial numbers and neck pocket. The pot serial number is in fact a 1977 number. Is that enough to authenticate the body being original? https://www.dropbox.com/s/u9g8gex9vh7wzce/pots%20serial.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/8q1waono9hjyfpp/pots%20new.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/z1lkjd3lfiyjpj9/Neck%20Pocket.jpg?dl=0
4. *original post edited to provide some more info* Calling all vintage Fenderheads! I've been after an old P bass for a while now and I've recently come across one being sold as a 1977. The asking price is generally reasonable for a 70's P at £1289 however, having been to the shop, spoken to the guys and played it, some things have flagged up so I'm trying to find out some more information on the actual value. Here's what I know so far - *The bass is an absolute pleasure to play. The neck is smooth and quick and frets are in good condition. Tone is very warm with typical old P bass charm though pickups are NOT original. Felt like a very good match for me. I know most will say this is the most important thing and I tend to agree, I just want to get a better idea of the sale being fair (as i got a slightly cloudy vibe off the sellers). I also know it's been up for sale online for at least a few months now. photos - https://www.dropbox....CgZYXv6QNa?dl=0 Body *The seller is claiming the finish is "Mocha" however this finish looks darker than most I've seen and isn't exactly walnut. Possibly a refin? He claims the body has been inspected by a luthier to confirm it's authenticity and says he's 90% sure it's original (whatever that means). The body does seem quite worn, especially on the backside, lots of scratches. *The bass is very light compared to other P basses I've played. Possibly even lighter than my 2001 American Standard Jazz. *I've had a look under the scratchplate and the holes for the thumb-rest have been drilled under the G string (Could this potentially mean it's an earlier 70's body?) No holes in the scratchplate so I'm guessing it's not original. *Unfortunately I do not recall seeing any clear stamps or markings in the neck pocket. I've asked seller for a picture and will update when it arrives. Electronics *The pickups most certainly aren't original, though one shop worker told me they were, the other quickly corrected that these are 80's DiMarzios. As stated above, they still sound great. *I immediately noticed the tone knob wasn't working. One seller told me it is but is very subtle (BS), though when I asked the in store "technician" to open her up, he told me he'd unwired the tone pot as it was crackling and needed replacement. When I asked for a picture of the pots and for them to tell me what the serial numbers on them were, they replied saying "250KA is the value of the pot, you dont find serial numbers in pots". The pictures are in the link above. Neck * The serial number and stamps on the neck confirm the 1977 manufacture. There is no visible date on the heel, pictures of the other stamps are in the link. As stated, I did have a 'click' with the instrument but I'd like to know exactly what I'm getting. The bass is being sold without any of the original parts, and apparently with no hard case. Considering that tone pot may need replacement and the question of the body's authenticity, £1289 is starting to sound quite steep, am I right? Any help is appreciated as always. Thanks!
5. Looking to listen to some mellow and melodic music where bass plays lead. Can be electric or upright. Preferably not too jazz / fusion esque but rather simple melodies, ambient, easy listening but not too cheese. Thanks!
6.
Yes it will. You'll be capable of putting the full 500 watts into it which, at 4 ohms, means you can't add another cab. I wouldn't turn the amp up to the point where it could damage the cab or run the bass frequencies flat out but with those limitations you can run this cab with this amp. I prefer 8 ohm 210 cabs because then you can add another cab if you need more volume and IMO more speakers gives you a better tone.
Thanks! So does that mean I would never be able to add another cab safely? not even another 4 ohm one or in parallel (my amp has two outputs)?
7. Apologies for a question that's probably already been asked 100 times but at least this is the right thread...! Will a 350W 4ohm Aguilar DB210 cab work with a Markbass 500W @ 4ohm head? Thanks!
8. I'm looking at purchasing a Barefaced Big Baby 2. I currently own a Trace 2x10 and 1x15 (they weigh a ton). I basically need for at least one of my cabs to be mega portable. Not sure what the general consensus is regarding pairing a 1x12 with a 1x15 but here is my question - If I decide to keep one of the TE cabs to occasionally beef up the rig (looks and power), Would a Markbass Momark 500 head (500@4 / 300@8) work efficiently with the BF and the Trace 1x15 (300 W @ 8 ohm)? I know the ideal thing to do would be to sell both TE and get two BF 1x12's but that's beyond the current budget. Thanks!
9. Well I'm glad this topic has sparked such interest, it is indeed a great time to be a bass player! *Update* Had a gig in Brighton tonight so I stopped by the BF factory to try out some cabs. First thing I'll say is that the guys at BF are super nice and passionate about what they do, which is always a plus. Following recommendations, I tried my Markbass Momark 500 through a Supertwin and the Two 10. Both great cabs all around - lightweight, powerful and wonderful tone . My only reservation is that I have been playing a 2x10 with an adjustable tweeter for the past 4 years so naturally I was missing a bit of sparkle. The 2x10 was slightly more appealing as it goes up to a higher freq range than the Supertwin. It might just be something I need to get used to so I'm going to spend more time checking out the full range
10. Thanks for the replies! It seems BF is the crowd favourite. Might go for the Supertwin / 2 Super compacts and throw the Rumble 4x10 under it for the bigger stuff.
11.
I used to have the 1x15 and 4x10 setup when I was happy to lug stuff like that around. I now have a lightweight 2x12 4ohm cab which is a single hand lift and handles anything I can throw at it. Wouldn't swap it for anything.
Thanks for the replies. Do you mind me asking what model the 2x12 is? I know Barefaced do one.
12. Excuse me if there's already a thread about light cabs here somewhere - feel free to redirect me! So touring with an older Trace 210 + Trace 15 has taken it's toll on my back and I need to lighten up. I need a light but powerful 210 for smaller gigs and something big to throw under it for the bigger stuff. I use a Markbass Momark 500 head (500@4 / 300@8) and IEM's on stage so mega tons of power for the combined rig is not necessarily essential. Mainly tone, portability and reasonably priced. TBH i really got the extra 1x15 Trace at the time for it to look more impressive on bigger stages. Considering going for a 2x10 + 4x10 option this time. I've had my eye on Aguilar and Barefaced stuff recently. The new 4x10 Aguilar meets all needs but is quite the wallet breaker, and I'm yet to test the Barefaced stuff. However I did walk into PMT a few days ago and sat down by the Fender Rumble 4x10 v3 cab and was quite pleasantly surprised with the power and tone for such a good price. Has anyone tried these? If I can pick up a 4x10 and a 2x10 for half the price of the Aguilar 4x10 that's me sorted, but I'm a bit put off by the entry level Rumble stigma. Any opinions?
13. Thanks! They both look great
