1.
Sad, isn't it..? Some 'bassists' slap, too. It stems from the same glands, I reckon.
Aha. Somehow I cant imagine drummers doing nothing but rimshots the whole way through namm and other drum get togethers, though (unlike the bass equivalent).
2. Another thumbs up for ArcTanGent! I've been every year, and it's a great community and always with a great line-up. Whether it's math rock or djent etc, there's plenty of "prog" scenes in the UK atm. (I always think it's strange when people talk about new bands that sound like rush etc. and describe them as prog. It's hardly progressive if it sounds like it's from 30 - 40 years ago. Not that there's anything wrong with that.)
3. Welcome to the forum! I thought I'd share my 2p on the Ibanez GSR since you mentioned it. I saved up and bought one of those as my first bass two years ago and I've been really pleased with it. It's light, got a thinish neck and the pick-up panning/built in EQ is useful for getting lots of different sounds. I don't intend on buying a new bass anytime soon. That being said, if you fancy a P bass, go for a P bass. (But I don't know too much about them, the more experienced guys above will be more helpful there.)
4.
distortion was probably the first effect? Interesting though, I'd like to read a "history of effects"
After reading this thread I had google for a pedal documentary, expecting there to be some kind of "History of..." deal, but I was rather disappointed. The best I could find was: Cry Baby: The Pedal That Rocks The World Fuzz: The Sound That Revolutionized The World Beautiful Noise (About the shoegaze scene in the 90s- looks great, but not what I went looking for.)
5. Bump for price drop to £10. It was probably a bit unfair of me to put it up at 15 in hindsight.
6. Yeah, that all makes sense. It's probably fairer making a comparison with the Rumble 100, based on price anyway.
Get your bass and go to a store. Try both combos, and a few others, and let your ears decide
Too right, the proof is in the listening at the end of the day. You can see how it looks on paper for as long as you like, but at the end of the day, it's the sound that you're paying for.
7. Is there something I'm missing here? TC BG250 MKII combo: 250w, 1x15 speaker. £270 new. Fender Rumble 200 v3: 200w, 1x15 speaker. £400 new. Rumble is more lightweight, but the TC toneprint seems to outweigh the Rumble feature functionality. I know I'm simplifying things here, but is the Rumble really worth the extra £130?
8. When I pre-ordered my copy of Jaco, two turned up (I'm fairly certain I accidentally ordered two). I've been sitting on the spare since, and it's probably about time I moved it on. Brand new condition- still in it's cellophane. £15 posted, or I'll knock some off if you want to collect it from Birmingham.
9.
I like it when chorus is just used as a "thickener" where you can't actually tell it's chorus but the whole thing is fatter. That's how I use mine and it's always on
That's exactly what I had in mind! Sounds great.
10. Just out of interest, do many people use it as an always on pedal? I've never really been that interested in chorus, really, but I'm starting to see how good it can sound on gentle settings in combination with other things like distortion and octave etc.
11. Bought a couple of CDs from Mike. Speedy delivery and kept me updated on it's progress. Couldn't have asked for more (even with me being a forgetful numpty).
12. Everyone generally seems to be in agreement then. I know I'm going to be wanting to get a new amp someday, and it's probably going to be a Rumble V3. I'm not a massive fan of the way they look, but because of the price/sound the looks won't stop me getting one.
13. If this is still available when payday comes around at the end of the month (which I'm sure it won't be), I'll snap it right up.
