1. Cheers man - guessing the picture sharing worked... JUST NEED A SCRATCH PLATE
2. Maybe this will work... https://www.dropbox.com/s/4vcd7z4o2iiybix/Photo%2013-03-2017%2C%2021%2021%2024.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/v2ofjm78dwxjmz0/Photo%2013-03-2017%2C%2021%2021%2026.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/6kb2xg9djnz9zvk/Photo%2013-03-2017%2C%2021%2021%2025.jpg?dl=0
3. And last one! Noticed you asked for a comparison vs other mark bass cabs? The fair comparison is vs the standard 2x12 or 2 individual 12s. Short story: ninja is better!
4. Yeah I guess I just meant that if money and space are no object that's probably what I'd have. Having said that, the tone I get from this is genuinely outstanding.
5. I want this bass but I also don't want it because I would feel sad that you don't have it anymore
6. Had one with the ninja amp since October I think. Absolutely. Love. It. Soundwise: naturally it's what your ears like, but for me it's really easy to get amazing tones with my 66 Jazz or Stingray Classic. It's great for brighter, slappy stuff but also fantastic for the warmer tones. It's not even like it's just average with certain tones but it's genuinely amazing at everything I try (FOR ME). The rest: I have a fiat panda as a car. it's small. I can get this cab in my boot without putting seats down. For me, that was vital - I needed small and powerful and I think this is about as good as it gets in that department. I got them before the prices went up on them too and so the value for me was great. It's plenty loud enough quite a bit below half master/gain etc. For bigger venues it's also able to be pushed no issues. All in all: I absolutely love it and I don't see me changing it ever because it's perfect for me in every way - I'm lucky because it just seems to fit my bill spot on. Maybe different for you/others! I think in general if you've got the space/no issues with lugging gear, I'd probably go for 2 4x10s/8x10s as I love that cushion of bass! Hope that helps!
7. Thanks for all posts all. I've sorted everything out bar the scratch plate. Waiting for the old man to look for it in a box somewhere before I shell out on a custom one! This bass sounds awesome and i fear for my stingray! PS no idea how to share pictures on here...
8. UPDATE: John at Bravewood is in the process of moving and as such is not taking on any new work for the time being. Anybody have other suggestions? Dan
9. Happy Jack, if I am not mistaken, you can string these with a B as well as with an E.
10.
If you can get a sound you like with a different bass and the same rig, it suggests to me you don't actually get on with the sound of the stingray.
HERESY. In all seriousness ahpook makes a good point. I'd argue that Stingrays don't suit every song (I won't say genre, as you'll have some funk that will need a P, J or MM) but I do think playing with EQ does open up a lot of tonal options. I can make mine fit to every sound I want at the moment, but I'd be lying if I felt that sometimes a different sound might be preferable (66' Jazz in Feb will remedy that...). Ultimately, if you can justify it, keep the MM and use it when you feel it fits
11. I have a stingray classic 4 and mark bass ninja (with ninja 2x12 cab) and I absolutely LOVE the tone I get out of it. Tend to have bass tone on close to max and treble just under half. Amp flat with maybe a bit of boost to VLE (basically bass boost and mids/treble reduction). With the amp/ray combo I can get really nice tones for Chic style stuff and more slappy friendly tones too. I do agree that some amps seem to agree with it more but I think its just a case of playing around until you find the right settings.
12. Wicked - would you recommend one over the other? Noob when it comes to pots/knobs knowledge I'd probably just want the one closest to vintage/original...
13. That's all really super useful - I will deffo contact John and see what he charges. I'm hoping my dad will find the original but I have a fear it was just cast aside back in the day (he removed it for aesthetics but personally, never thinking he'd have a son that would ruin is career and then want his bass WITH the guard ...) If i get modern controls/pots put back on it, will John also be a good guy to go for?
