1. Thanks for the reply, sorry I've been away from the keyboard over the festive season! Fender Rumble 60 Amp Knob, 0062771000 Fender Knob Rumble Series 0062771049 - Can't see how to upload a photo.... Measures roughly 16mm across and 17mm tall. It's push on for round split shaft pot. (NOT a D shape as I thought). Yes, there are loads of generic knobs on ebay, believe me I've looked but as I only need one and they seem to be very specific to the Fender Rumble it's proving very difficult to locate! Thanks again!
2. Hi All, I've put a wanted add in another part of the forum, but I wondered if anyone knew of a good parts store (U.K.). Only I have one that is missing a knob! She was a bit of a rescue job, but she cleaned up ok, had a bit of work done (as the knob and pot shaft had been snapped off and lost by the previous owner and so had the badge) and would like to get out gigging, but I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to looking all original... I managed to source the badge, so it's just the basic black knob with a small off centre white dot, D-shaped pot shaft I think (old style - but not the new old/vintage style). Haven't found anyone in the U.K. selling them and I'm aware Fender stopped making them some time ago. Found maybe one supplier in the U.S. but that makes postage a bit ridiculous for what should be a small cheap item.... Thanks in advance.

4. Yes, thanks for the info that helps a lot! All measured up now: Saddle to Nut = 35" Back end of bridge (string ball end) to Low B tuning peg 38 1/2" So that makes these spot on: D'Addario XB125SL Nickel Wound XL Bass Strings and Single.125 Super Long Scale **PLEASE NOTE** Length of string (ball end to start of taper) - 38" Strange though because it appears as if D'Addario use XL to mean something else as both the 'long' and 'Super long' scale string are called XL, as well as a whole range of other strings, so it's no guarantee of it fitting if it's a D'Addario XL. http://www.daddario....3768&familyid=1 The 5 string was purchased so I can hit a low C without having to mess around with detuning my 4 string basses, requiring heavier gauge strings and neck tension adjustments etc. Although it's a pain having to sit on 1st fret of the B string most of the song... I'm not happy with the tapering on the saddle as the string sits way too low, even with the saddle wound all the way up! Thanks again!
5. Well, overall the string isn't too short as such. Only it's just that the taper starts the wrong side of the nut (and only by maybe 5mm)! The taper is for winding on the peg, is that right? I'm a bit new to bass, even newer to 5 string and (a bit naughty I know) vary rarely change my strings. I'll do the measurements tonight and update.
6. Thanks for the prompt reply! I think you are right with the 35" scale length. Is D'Addario the only maker that I'd have to watch out for in terms of needing Super Long Scale strings? And I'm hoping if it doesn't state taper then the bridge end is not tapered (I mean it's not like 'a thing' with all D'Addario bass strings is it?). Only I've seen this one: D'Addario XB125SL Nickel Wound XL Bass Strings and Single.125 Super Long Scale And it states - **PLEASE NOTE** Length of string (ball end to start of taper) - 38" or 96.5cm I think that's a little long for my low B tuning peg.
7. Hi All, A while ago I bought a second-hand 5 string from ebay due to my new band playing in drop C tuning. The strings were dull and lifeless as expected, so I swapped the ones I could from my spare 4 stringers, but was obviously missing the low B. My local shop didn't have a lot of choice but had an old .135 gauge (I think) string out the back (guess there's not a lot of call for them). Well alarm bells rang when the winding at the stopper ring wouldn't fit through the bridge, but a bit of reading on the internet suggested the bridge hole could be drilled out! I seem to remember hammering the winding, but anyway I got it to fit through somehow... Horrible string, felt like a cable! I was expecting it to be fat but it just felt horrible and was still very dull and a bit flabby. After quite a bit of research I got hold of someone from Spector (who made the bass - Performer 5 Classic) and although he said it was a very old model, suggested .125's would have been the original B string. So, I hopped on ebay and found a super bright D'Addario XL prosteel 0.125 Long Scale (as I found a few of my other 4 string spares too short even for the other positions). Unfortunately what I didn't see was 'tapered' and although I thought it would be ok, this means both ends! So even though it is long scale the taper at one end sits in the nut and the taper at the other sits on the saddle... That's not right... So really all personal preferences about type of string aside, does anyone know what string I need to put on this guitar?! These mistakes are getting quite expensive now so I just need to make sure the string I get will a) fit through the bridge hole.... b ) not have a taper that sits in the nut or on the saddle... c) will be the right scale length... d) be the right gauge for feel (I know that's personal - but the .125 although totally wrong in every other department 'feels' about right - could I go thinner?). Many thanks in advance. Kol.
8. Well, as I suspected - here is the response from the lovely people at Spector bass (my comment in bold): Thank you for your email. Sorry for the delay in the response. (which was only a day!) The bass would have shipped with generic nickel strings made in Asia. Most likely gauge 45-125 Your best bet would be to get a set of Stainless Steel strings which would have a bit more zing and bite then Nickel strings. Any of the name brand 45-125 sets would be recommended. Possibly Dean Markley Blue Steels or D'adarrio Pro Steels these are usually readily available in most local stores. If you go with Nickel Strings, you are probably best to go with D'adarrio Nickel XL's these are the strings that ship on our Euro series basses. Regards, Spector Customer Relations
9. Hi All, I have just purchased a Spector 5 string from ebay and managed to change out the dead strings from one of my old 4 strings. The only issue I have now is the low B string and I need to change it but don't know what gauge it is. I know string size is a matter of personal preference, but I've never played a 5 string and don't have time to find out what suits as I need it urgently and don't have time to mess with the nut or bridge. Does anybody know what string gauge the low B on these came with from the factory so I can easily swap it out? Also, does the 35" scale length mean I need to be careful what strings I get as when I tried to swap out the E string from another bass, the outer winding was going to end up the wrong side of the nut! Many thanks in advance. Kol. Edit - Ok, I couldn't wait.... Local shop only had a Trace Elliot (?) .130" BLX... The top winding only just comes over the nut and the winding for the stopper at the bridge needed hammering (just a little) then pulled through when tuned to pitch, that is a REALLY tight hole (and I don't normally complain about those). Also the only part that fits round the peg is a piece of core wire with just a little of the inner winding wire, is that going to hold?! I found out that it's a really OLD string, here is the blurb from somewhere or other: Now discontinued, these strings were made for Trace Elliott for many years. They are handwound in a single direction and the core mass of each string is carefully specified to ensure a uniform tension and feel when tuned to pitch. By stepping down the windings over the bridge (I think they mean tapered after the nut) on the heavier gauges, the sustain and clarity of E and B strings are significantly improved. Single Ball End, Roundwound, Nickel. 6 String Heavy Gauge; .030, .045, .065, .085, .105, .130. The .130 doesn't sit perfectly in the nut (so I'm going to guess it originally had a .125 or something) but it's good enough for now.
