Total Watts

  1. Is it that bad? I don't mean my playing, I know that is, but what I've done to my bass?
  2. Some sounds from it, just recorded on my phone, no effects, noise reduction or eq added. https://drive.google.com/file/d/18nsrZ3Ir_cwaJUrXo-Qg9QBf4E2QMFKA/view?usp=drivesdk Passive mode (P pickup only, no tone control) Active P, flat tone Active J, flat tone Then various extreme tone settings.
  3. Over the past year I've got various bits and pieces to do this, some might say its crazy to do this instead of just buying a better bass but where's the fun in that and I probably wouldn't do this with a better instrument. I think I've finished it although I'll probably redo the wiring at some point. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1W-qGmTuJjaD-2TgUlEltjEhvuttRZBU7/view?usp=drivesdk Wilkinson (cheap) p pickup, sounds pretty good and almost noiseless, less noisy then the active EMGs I tried before. Dimarzio (2nd hand) ultra jazz, again, sounds decent and virtually noiseless Pickups go into active balance, then into active bass/treble/variable mid stacked knobs, then volume and out. Volume is push/pull and switches to passive mode with just the P pickup going straight to volume and out. Bit of overkill for that bass? Probably, but its been fun doing it and I'm quite pleased with how it's ended up.
  4. Tried it with a cheap USB sound adapter for a couple of quid instead of the B2.1u and it seems to work ok with the phone and software for even more portability, really liking the audio evolution app, anyone else given it a go?
  5. Who said I'm a dude who knows what he's doing? I had tried the b2.1u connected to laptop before and had latency issues and thought it was down to drivers on my comp but never managed to find a fix and gave up with that. Recording on the phone at 44.1k there are some latency issues but recording at 48k seems to sort it out. It was just stuff I already had (except the software) and just had to plug together to come up with a wee portable recording/editing setup.
  6. I have also tried it with a B1on but it appears that it's USB port is only for upgrading the firmware or for power and isn't an audio interface.
  7. This is probably old news but I thought it was pretty cool when I discovered it and couldn't find any mention of it anywhere else. I'd been searching around for some device that would let me mix the bass with an audio track and play through headphones and came across a couple of cheap effects units that let you do that, I already had a B2.1u but that didn't have an aux in, however, it has a USB port to connect to PC. It turns out though that I can connect my phone to the B2.1u USB port with an otg lead and the B2.1u becomes the phones soundcard so I can play music off the phone through it, it also seems pretty good at recording, at the moment I'm using audio evolution software for multitrack audio/midi recording/editing. It works really well with my Sony z3 compact but not so well with my cheaper (work) ht20 phone and there's a bit of crackling on the recordings. Anyone else use any such setup, got any opinions, is there any other software that might work with it?
  8. Just had a look back, it was the cher rystone mpm electric bass kit. The price has gone up to £72 since.
  9. Thanks for the replies. No instructions or anything, the neck, the body and a bag of bits is all that came, it was off amazon for under £50 so I'm not expecting too much and won't be too bothered if it doesn't work out. I'm pretty sure the saw cut's in the right place for that so I'll go ahead with cutting the rest of the slot out. Any suggestions for what I should use to glue the nut? Another couple of things, positioning of the bridge, I'll wait till I've got the neck fixed on, and the 12th fret should be halfway between the bridge saddles and the nut, should I set it like that with the saddles set in the middle of their tracks or further forward or back? And the string guide for the 2 high strings on the headstock, do I just wait until the strings are on and judge where best to fit that so the strings are pulled down similarly to the low 2 strings?
  10. Hi all, I'm new here and new to bass. I have a GSR200 but to learn a bit of maintenance and stuff without messing around with that I've bought one of those cheap diy bass kits to put together and set up, no idea what it's going to end up like. Anyway, the nut doesn't come installed on the neck, near the end of the fretboard there is a fine sawcut that stops a couple off mm from the edges but there isn't any sort of slot that the nut would fit into. Do I have to cut a slot and does anyone have any advice on doing that and how to attach the nut, glue etc.? (I'm assuming that the existing fine sawcut is what the nut goes against and that I have to cut a slot alongside that cut to allow the nut to be sunk into the fretboard slightly but just want to make sure) Thanks for any help.
