1.
Fat Mike from NOFX is also killer.
+1 NOFX stuff is awesome
 2.
Just booked tickets for Nottingham in November, should be a good night.
I'm planning to go and see them that night too
 3. Very tempted and will be keeping and on this but just bought a new bass and think the wife might kill me if I come home with another one. GLWTS!
 4. Bit of a mixture for me really. Nu metal bnads like Deftones, Korn and Limp Bizkit but Jamiroquai has also been a really big influence on me as well.
 5. 52 that's no age at all. I really liked Audioslave, a real loss.
 6.
That's great news See, most of us on here are a friendly helpful bunch - didn't I say that? lol
I can't argue with you there, everyone I've met and spoke to has been really friendly and helpful.
 7.
Glad you got something out of the post! Just re-read your original post and this jumped out at me: Without wanting to pass comment on your lessons - about which I know nothing - this is really an area that any teacher should cover sooner rather than later; it stops you wasting time (and money) and ensures that they don't spend lesson time recapping too much content from the previous lesson. Everyone wins. If a teacher can't outline some clear and effective strategies for practising that are directly applicable to you then, well...
Bit of a late reply on this one but I wanted to wait to see how I got on with another tutor. I'm pleased to say that this one has given me some clear guidance now and has given me challenges to work on through the week as well. So it looks like I'm sorted now, thanks for the advice, it gave me the push I needed
 8.
When you can build stuff like this why buy basses??? Jez, love your work mate...
+1 Really lovely basses Jabba_the_gut The one on the far left was my favourite to play although the short scale one was awesome too.
 9.
Try checking here: http://basschat.co.u...elp-fix-a-bass/
Super useful thread thanks!, I'll might just PM a couple of people on that thread.
It's not really a "cheeky request" - I think you'll find many BC members are happy and willing to help a local fellow member.... There are indeed, plenty of Youtube videos also out there.... First off though - who was it that told you it needed a set-up? Was it a local shop, touting for business? lol Do you find your bass comfortable to play? It might be that raising or lowering the action makes it less playable for you. I know people who've had their instruments professionally set up, only to find it's less comfortable for them to play than they thought...
Yeah the people that have met so far have all been really nice and helpful, defiantly a good group of people on here. My new bass teacher said the action was very high on the bass but as I only have 30 minutes lessons with them it would have taken to long to go through. I do think the action is too high at the moment especially when I get close to the 12th fret. I have tried a couple of basses with low actions and found them much easier to play. I have taken your advice and changed the thread title as well, thanks for the useful info.
 10. A bit of a long shot and really quite a cheeky request to be fair. I've currently got a Ibanez GSR190 and have been told it could do with having the action being lowered and probably a new set of strings fitting. I know a local guitar store would do this but I would really like to learn how to do it myself. Is there any one local to me that wouldn't mind going through the basics of it one weekend as that would really help as I quite concerned I might doing something wrong. Failing that has any one got a good guide on how to do it? Thanks in advance.
 11. Great afternoon thanks, Si. Was really nice to meet so many new people and try out a couple of basses. Put me down for next year!
 12. Finishing work at 12:30 so should be there for 1ish all things being equal.
 13.
Have a read of this, which summarises most of what I've learned in 17 years of trying to get my sh*t together: http://www.freebasst...etter-practice/
That's a great post there are definitely a few things I will be using from that in fact just ordered a diary to start tracking what I'm doing.
 14.
There's no need to be terrified! We're an easy-going friendly bunch, and basically people chat about gear over tea and cakes, try out each other's basses/amps/effects etc, natter about bass, have a raffle and more tea and cakes, and more nattering about bass.
That's good to know that I won't be bringing any gear with me but will be nice to see other people's bass although I don't think my credit card would agree.
I think you'll get something out of it, if only cake... See you there.
Cake is always good, I'm looking forward to it now, should be there for about 1ish with a bit of luck.
