Total Watts

  1. Bassist sought as I am going to play rguitar. Only one gig in the diary at the moment July 6th on Streatham Common but looking to finish recording soon and put something out. We have demos and I am currently out of work so have plenty of time to run the songs with whoever. Band age is 27/37 but we are open to anyone cool. Influences, Kinks, Beatles, Stones, Nuggets, Coral, Cardigans, Dylan, Radiohead, CBGB, Amy Mann, Marvin Gaye, Velvet Underground. Can't promise money or even that you'll get more meow meow than Frank Sinatra, those days are gone!
  2.
I've got a red Encore too, one of the Indian ones. Model E83, they topped the Making Music sales charts back in the 1990s. They're pretty much the same bass that was sold as a Squier II in America and a Sunn Mustang. I've got a Classic Vibe (Tonerider) pickup in it but the original white one was quite good too. The body is some heavy hardwood (ash?) and the headstock is the proper Fender shape. Decent bridge and tuners. I really like it. I've just read another thread on here about bad E-strings, I had that with some Legacy (Rotosound?) ones when I first got this bass. Swapped them for some cheap JHS Encores and it sounds marvellous. I had a Harley Benton ash Jazz and they're good but the body was heavy AND thin so it dug into my thigh! I'm not sure if Rollin Thunder's one is an Indian one - the scratchplate screws look different in number and position? 9 screws in mine.
hey man, thanks so much for your reply, is the E83 a bit smaller than a regular precision? I have spent years playing a short scale bass, and want something with the P Bass sound but with maybe 32 inch scale.
  3. Hi everyone, a friend of mine used to have a white Encore P Bass in the 90's. I think it was slightly short scale or a student model. Pretty sure it was made in India too. Has anyone got an idea of the model number, or better still have one? Cheers.
we still need someone for our new band. we're all experienced, played big european festivals (we're aged 26-34 if that matters...) lots of songs written, wicked drummer on board. Looking for a bass player into some of the following... radiohead, pulp, the strokes, blur, led zep, pixes and everyones favourite, the beatles. Gig on June 3rd if anyone could make that, we're contemplating having to use a backing track(!) but would rather get someone in.
6. Influences include Radiohead, Blur, The Strokes, David Bowie, Suede. Flexible with rehearsals, cos of the space we have, but we need someone commited. We're aged 25-33 if that matters to you...
  7.
Hi, my singer bought one of these 100watt combo amps for our rehearsal room. I didnt work so i looked in the back, and sure enough, the glass fuse was blown. After this i told him to keep the fuse in his wallet so we could replace it, but he went and lost it. Anyone know what fuse to buy? Thanks
Right, been messing about with this for a while. It's powering up fine, speaker makes a "phof" sound when switched on, but no output. everything on the inside looks ok, but i'm still none the wiser. Any ideas?

  9. Here we have an 80's Aria bass known as The Cat. It was defretted in a shop in Maine and plays really nicely. It is equiped with Seymor Duncan pickups and has a great variety of tones. Sadly, I no longer have the use for it, so figured i may as well sell it to fund some effects. I'm looking for £150 but am open to part exchange for a fretted bass. I live in Mile End, London E3 and the bass is available to try. Thanks
  10. would you be interested in swapping for a fretless of part exchanging?
  11. Fretless Aria bass in red with nice pickups. Belongs to a mate of mine who is looking to swap it or part exchange for a fretted bass of some kind. He lives in Stepney, E3. PM me if you're at all interested. Thanks for your interest, Daniel
  12. Red Fender Jazz bass with offset contour body. Purchased by me at the guitar show in Earls Court in 1998, the serial number is A014857. Comes with hard case that was given to me free at the time of purchase. I tried to sell on ebay and it went for £310 to a guy who wanted it posting to Norway. I however, need the money fast. I'm looking for about 300. it's one of the 'crafted in Japan' models, which are highly coveted and are said to be much better than a 90's US model. All original, It's been gigged regulary, has loads of scuffs and chips, of which i will take photos of over the new few days when i managed to borrow a camera. That said, it's truly a players bass, everyone always comments on how nice it is to play. I'm truly gutted to be selling it, but no work and rent that needs paying. Buyer to pay cash. I'd rather not post it either, but will do if it's the only option. I'd deliver it anywhere on the tube network for an extra tenner. any questions; 07912353577
  13.
As a long term Jazz and Jazz-clone user I've been gassing for a Precision for a while. This reached crisis point when I spotted a gorgeous '66 Precision in shoreline gold, matching headstock, etc, in Charlie Chandler's shop. It was a refin and had had a serious neck repair. It also cost a small fortune so I thought I'd better compare it with a 'bog standard' P-bass and had a little tinkle on a Jap '62 reissue. It was up at £489, so I'm assuming it was one of the 'standard' reissues with basswood body and Jap vintage pups. It looked almost as good as the '66, with a perfect 3T burst and a three-ply tort guard - not that weird reddish tort that you sometimes see on Jap Fenders. The neck wood looked very good, with a slight quilt to it, and the lacquer was slightly dark for a nice vintage look. Weight was around medium - 8.5 pounds or so. The neck (the thing that might have bothered me most) was an absolute peach - wider than I was used to, but also shallower. It felt perfect. It also sounded bloody good. When I was a young nipper checking out Precisions, they always seemed to sound a bit clanky and industrial to me. Perhaps the better string control and muting I've learned over twenty years has made a difference, or perhaps this was just an unnaturally good Precision, but either way it seemed to be making all the right noises and I preferred the neck to the '66 (which was three or four times pricier...) So, what the hell. I snapped it up and made my apologies for rapid loss of interest in the '66. Having got the thing home, I could not stop playing it. Happily, after a moment of suspicion, it became clear that my girlfriend could not really tell the difference between the Precision and my sunburst Sadowsky Metro 5 (which I stashed quietly under the bed). There is something about the pure utility of a Precision, and (to my eyes) the way a good 'burst one looks, that has a unique appeal. Harmonics aren't really on the agenda and slap seems to need a bit more control, but as a fingerstyle bass it does things than I just can't do on anything else. Fast runs have a kind of burpy quality and you get little inflections by subtly altering your muting technique. Perhaps most importantly, this is the bass that was on so many of those lines that made me want to play the bass when I was 8 or 9 years old - like the theme to Barney Miller (which I can't stop playing on it ) The main downside at the moment is that, while I've put my usual 45-105s on it, I just can't get the action down as low as I'm used to on my Zons and Sadowskys, and the strong tension also seems higher - so it's physically more of a challenge. But in a way I enjoy that more and have the massive blisters on my left hand fingers to prove it. Might try it with 40-100s though... Verdict: I've got that sweet 'new toy' feeling with this bass. I love looking at it, love playing it and think it's a long-term keeper.
Great review. I've been toying with switching to a Precision for a while so I'm going to check this model out!

The time has come for me to reluctantly part with my Trace combo and cab. This time it's not a GAS attack, but a back problem and just my general decrepit condition, that makes lifting a real problem. I purchased the combo new from the Bass Centre, when they were situated in Wapping. I can't recall the year, but could probably find the original receipt if necessary. The extension cab was recently purchased from another forum member (Bottomfeed). I was always pleased with the combo, but adding the additional cab created exactly the sound I wanted. A sound that to my ears was just right and able to really cut through the drums, keyboards and lots of guitars in the current band line up. The combo is in absolutely perfect as new condition and is fully functioning. It is the 12 band graphic model, with two preshapes. An input blend with a valve stage. Compression for both high and low. I suspect there is no need to list the full spec, most of the features are hopefully visible in the photos. Feel free to contact me for more info if required though. I still have the original instruction manual, which is very thorough in describing all the features and how to get the best from them. The speaker cabinet is also fully functional, although slightly scruffy. No serious damage, just more worn looking, but still what I would describe as good condition. It comes with a cover, which is quite worn but does offer some protection. It is rated at 200 watts - 8 ohms. Both of these items are the carpeted versions. Looking for £ 375.00 for the combo, which I think is a fair price given the condition. and £175.00 for the cabinet. Would prefer collection. But willing to discuss shipping and costs, separately.
Very interested. Please give me a call on 07912353577. Daniel
