  1. Edited - Sorry, I copied the specs for the new version. The manual states full power into both 4 and 8 ohms but on another thread this was questioned and Orange tech support gave the following reply implying different power output dependent on ohms. I’m none the wiser. Hi Darren, The impedance switch works more like a limit switch. The switch is connected to a limiter circuit. When 4 ohms is selected it bypasses an additional resistor, when in 8 ohms the circuit engages this additional 2.2k resistor. This is to get the most out of your signal when matching impedance. I don’t believe there to be any difference in this circuit from MK1 and MK2 I hope this is helpful. Kind regards, Joe
  2. For sale/trade is my terror bass 500 watt amp head with power cable, speakon, padded bag and all paperwork. Fantastic condition, no damage and fully working. This thing is loud. 3. Paul, I here barefaced cabs mentioned a lot but have no experience of them. What might a used cab cost? Also how does the 2 x 10 differ from the supertwin. Excuse my newbness!
  4. Thanks for all the replies. I think if a single smaller cab can do the job then I should have a look into the OBC 115 and 212's. From what I've read they are still pretty heavy cabs and the isobaric cab is outperformed by other 112's??
  5. Hi, I have just acquired a TB500 head and am looking into cabs to pair it with. I tried it with an old Peavey 410 when I bought it that sounded great and have used it at rehearsal with a similar 410 (maybe a Behringer) I want a cab that can do the job without PA support in smaller venues but also have a presence on a larger stage. Ideally I want just one cab (I currently use a mag 210 combo and mag 115 extension cab) so maybe a 410 but not one that weighs a tonne! The head can switch between 4 and 8 ohms and still deliver 500w I believe. Here are some options I have been looking at; Ashdown RM-410-EVO Rootmaster 600W Ashdown ABM 410H Classic Gallien Krueger CX 410 400W Orange OBC 410 - might be a bit out of my price range Eden EX410 Bass I am looking to keep to £500 or lower and am happy to buy used. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
  6. Thanks Lozz, I just watched a video on the parra drive and liked what Iheard of the tones. I'll check out the root masters at my local PMT.
  7. Lozz, definitely looking to change/upgrade my rig but with so many good suggestions I'm just going to have to take my bass and have a try. When I bought my Ashdown rig it was pretty much the first and only amp I had ever played and it has served me well and I like the tone so have considered upgrading to ABM stuff. Now after taking more notice of the bass tone/gear used by different bands I find myself drawn to that Ampeg tone (future islands/metronomy for example) just would also help to have the option for some overdriven sound when playing covers. I think the Orange amp might be a bit too much fuzz for my taste. Am I right in thinking the sans amp VT DI is basically the tech 21 VT 500 minus the power amp? Thanks for all the help and suggestions
  8. Thanks for all the help/replies. I think I'm leaning towards a head and cab rather than combo and like the idea of two cabs(210's) and use one or two depending on the gig.
  9. Thanks burrito, the Pf500 was the first head I was considering before reading about some technical issues but will look to try one out now.
  10. Thanks Cuzzie, I'm not in a rush to buy immediately so will try a few heads out. As for the speakers I'm not very clued up when it comes to ohms and impedance and matching cabs to heads. If a head is rated for 500w at 4ohms do I need a 4ohm cab to get the full power or does an 8ohm cab receive half the power from the head with the option to add a second cab? Also configuration - one 410 cab, 2 x 210's, 1 x 212 or a combination. I play my 210 combo on its own for smaller gigs but have added the 115 cab on larger stages and to boost the bottom end. Do I need more speakers if the head is more powerful? So many questions. I am a newb sorry!
  11. Thanks bass bunny, was in my local PMT the other day and the guy mentioned their Hartke sale so I Might order one in to test. Never played anything other than my Ashdown so not sure where to start with a new head!
  12. I'm open to suggestions and have been looking at a few heads including Ashdown ABM 500, PF 500, Fender Rumble 500, Tech 21, Ashdown RM500 and Hartke LH500 I've seen used Tech 21 for around £300 so I was looking at maybe £500-600 for the head and cab. Weight wise I would prefer to just take one cab and a smaller head or two smaller/lighter cabs as my combo and extension at the moment are pretty heavy.. I would consider bigger cabs if they have handles/castors. My band plays originals that are indie/dance and a range of covers from hip-hop, dance to indie rock and ska. (Blur, clash, specials, faithless, libertines, charlatans, happy mondays, gorillaz, tribe called quest, the jam, metronomy) I need a versatile amp where I can play clean or change up the tone to add a bit of grit or make it a more dub bass sound.
  13. Hi, I'm looking for some advice about upgrading my set-up. I currently use an Ashdown mag 300w 210 combo with a mag 115 deep cab. I'm looking to get a 500w head and have read good things about the Tech21 VT 500 head and am interested in getting an ampeg style tone without spending big money. Can anyone suggest a cab/cabs to pair with this head. I quite fancy a 410 or maybe a 210 to go with my existing 115 cab. Would I need an 8ohm cab? The head is rated at 300w for 8ohms. Any help or suggestions are welcome. This is my first post and I have been playing for about 5 years so have little experience other than my current set-up. Thanks
