  1. Is it still available please? happy to travel today if so!
  2. I learned about Myvolts after I reviewed a five way Usb to 9volt cable for Sonic State. It powers all of my 9 volt Korg Volcas from a phone battery with no problem whatsoever. The Volcas use a different DC pin so I haven't tried it with my bass pedals. I was impressed though so I reckon this would be a cool solution. I am contemplating building a pedal board with some big USB battery built in so I recharge the whole board. With one USB jack. Each cable can provide 1000 mah from a single USB socket so I reckon you could daisy chain five pedals off one.
  3. Hello everyone. I recently found out about this Irish company called Myvolts who are making power supply solutions. They currently have a Kickstarter project for their Ripcord. This is essentially a USB to 9 volt adaptor so that you can power your pedals from a phone charger or portable battery. It think this looks dead cool and I have backed it but the Kickstarter doesn't seem to be going that well hence me posting it here. They cost about £12. 4. I have two Modern Player basses - a Jazz and a Telecaster. Both are terrific instruments. The only criticism I could think of when reading this thread is that the MP Telecaster's back pickup pole pieces are not aligned correctly. It looks like it is the same as the front pu and thus doesn't line up nicely with the E string resulting in a slightly unbalanced sound. I love the front pu so much though that I generally don't mind. The butterscotch finish is a bit odd too. The Jazz on the otherhand... I had to get a back up bass for a large project in Paris I was involved in a couple of years ago and ended up getting the MP Jazz. Initially due to the fact I was using a midi bass setup (GR55) I was only looking for a nice feeling bass and not too bothered about the sound as all the sounds were coming from the GR55. I went to a large music shop and the first bass that caught my eye was this black MP Jazz. I checked the headstock and noticed that it was made in China and to my shame I didn't even pick it up. I then tried out a few MIM Jazz basses which were all shocking and horrible, then thinking I was going to have to up my budget, I looked at a few U.S. standard Jazzes which I thought exhibited the same lack of cohesion as the MIMs. The chap in the shop urged me to take another look at the Modern Player. I picked it up and it was instant love. The thing had mojo, it spoke to me! I don't know if this particular one was better than normal ones but I ended up taking it back to Paris with me. I felt ashamed that my prejudice had prevented me from trying it in the first place. As result of getting that Jazz I went out and got the Tele after I returned from France. That very same bass has now travelled the world with me playing big gigs with Karl Hyde/Underworld. It was my first choice for that project (from a choice of 12 quality basses) and has performed flawlessly. It has survived all kinds of touring hazards such as long haul flights, different altitudes and humidities (Far East touring) and as for the tuners? The bass was always totally stable and I have had no issue whatsoever with any of the hardware. A great bass that I can heartily recommend!
  5. Again thanks so much for the replies. As far as I know the problem is on all settings but as it is my friends bass now and not in my hands I can't test it for sure. I think the thorough investigation with a magnifier is something I will urge him to do as that seems most likely. I wonder if anyone knows if there is anywhere in the UK where you can get hold of replacement G&L preamps?
  6. Thanks guys, tried new battery and connections seem good. My feeling is that there is something wrong with the electronics maybe a wire is grounding against another or something along those lines. My L2000 doesn't exhibit this issue at all so it makes me think that there is something amiss with my friends one. I think I was hoping that someone had experienced a similar issue and knew the solution. I really appreciate you all taking the effort to help out though!
  7. Hi everyone and merry Christmas and all that! My friend has a G&L USA L2000 (as do I) and it has a very peculiar fault and I wondered if anyone here has experienced it or what to do? Bass was bought on here by me for my friend but the seller denied any knowledge of the issue. Basically what happens is that there is a dirty noise that happens when you play a note, it sounds like almost like a layer of distortion (in a bad way) rather than hum. It makes this noise whether the bass is in passive or active mode. My instinct is that perhaps it needs a new preamp board but i have no idea where to get one or how much they would cost. Thanks in advance, Gaz
  8. Now sold thanks! Out of interest it went for £500 sold externally to this site.
  9. A little bump for an interesting virtually brand new bass! Do you think it would be wrong/cheeky to post this in the EUB/Upright marketplace too?
  10. Hey all, I have had a great summer of festivals and the like playing great gigs and meeting loads of new people. I have especially enjoyed meeting bass players and having some terrific chats. It occurred to me recently that there seems to be a peculiar bond that we share and are absolutely delighted to chat about it! I'm sure fellow bagpipers, banjoists, Hurdy Gurdy umm Nerdys all have similar experiences but there just seems to be something really special with other bass players. I seldom experience egotism or indifference but encounter plenty of impassioned and excitable folk who just love to talk bass! I think there are definitely characteristics and personality traits that you find in bass players but for me chiefly above all else is open friendliness! There I have said it! Cheers Gaz
  11. Nice bass! These are very underrated but extremely well made instruments. GLWTS!
  12. Oh no my pictures are the wrong way around! They are correct on my computer, anyone have any ideas *slips away embarrassed*
