1. SOLD Carved Flatback Double Bass - C.1920 - Czech So here we have a real treat. This bass has been dated and estimated by Roger Dawson of London at circa 1920, made in Czechoslovakia. I am gradually selling up and i have been holding off from selling this treasure but i am not playing it so it's time for it to go. Solid wood, fully carved and in great working order. This bass sounds absolutely fantastic, it has a strong but relaxed tone, clear and full, with plenty of bass and a deep low E response. It has been well used, as you can see from the pictures, but it is still holding up nice and strong. The fingerboard is smooth and in perfect condition and was levelled and set at the same time as the rest of the bass was worked on by Roger Dawson. The reason for the low price is that the neck was detached from the body when i bought the bass. It has been re-attached and re-set by top luthier Roger Dawson, and is absolutely solid, sounds great and plays fantastic. The whole bass has been set up, checked and is in full performance condition! You can see where the neck has been joined in the pictures. The neck itself is in great condition and has never been broken or damaged. The solid wood carved back is flat with a 'cant' at the upper bout (the angled top section of the back). The body shape itself is a typical gamba cut. It has a rosewood fingerboard with a 'Romburg bevel', which is the angled section of the fingerboard underneath the E-string. It is currently strung with nearly-new Pirastro Evah Pirazzi strings, to give a nice balance to the sound. They are synthetic core, steel wound, very expensive strings and they give a nice warmth to the strong deep sound this bass produces. As you can see in the pictures, this beautiful bass has definitely been well used, but it feels solid, plays great and can really sing! Viewings are welcome in the Liverpool area. I think that when people hear this bass for themselves it won't take long for it to go. Please get in touch if you have any questions. You can also email me at: [email protected] Thanks for looking! Dave
2. Hi! This is a genuine USA Fender American Standard Jazz Bass in 3 Tone Sunburst in new condition. I am an upright bass player and I bought this as a backup for the occasional gigs I might need it for. It turns out i've only ever used it literally about five times and the rest of the time it has been kept safe in its case. It has been regularly checked and set-up by guitar shop where I used to work. This bass truly is in mint condition. It has been kept at the correct temperature and humidity since new, and as you can see the neck is perfectly straight. It plays like a dream and sounds fantastic. It also comes with all of the original documents and accessories. This includes the original Fender strap and cable, the original Fender truss rod adjuster, and the warranty card, serial number and owners manual. The bass is freshly set up and ready to roll! I can’t emphasise enough that this bass is in perfect condition. There are a couple of very small marks at the very top of the headstock but basically there is not a mark on it and the finish on the body and neck is immaculate. It comes with the original heavy duty Fender case that is also in excellent condition. There are a few superficial marks on the case but basically it is immaculate. The fingerboard and frets are as new, and the finish is the classic 3-tone sunburst. I was working in a guitar shop at the time I bought this and I bought it on the recommendation that the 2008 model was one of the best basses Fender had made for several years. Thanks for looking! Viewings welcome! Delivery available within the UK at the buyer's cost. Dave

6. Hi Dave! Yes sorry it's still for sale but i have had a few serious enquiries. Drop me a PM in the next day or two if you can. Cheers! Dave
7. So, with great regret, I’ve decided to sell my Swiss-made Schertler DYN-B contact mic and matching PRE-A-III pre-amp system for double bass. It’s an unbelievable sound and I’ve loved using in combination with my transducer pickup but I need a new car and I need to make some cutbacks so here it is. Damn! This has got to be the most realistic reproduction of acoustic double bass tone that I’ve heard. It basically sounds like there’s an expensive condenser microphone placed directly in front of your bass in a recording studio… but coming out of your amp or PA at a live gig! The contact mic and pre-amp themselves are in immaculate condition and have been lovingly cared for in the 18 months since I bought them. I still have the manuals and warranty and both the contact mic and pre-amp come fully cased in the original schertler cases. The contact mic is a bug which attaches to the body of a bass using a specialist putty (completely harmless to your bass) and then feeds the signal to an XLR output which sits by the bridge. You can then connect it directly to a amp or PA or route it through the specialist schertler pre-amp which has been designed specifically for use for this pickup. Like I said, the tone is unbelievable with perfect reproduction of the full frequency range of the instrument. It’s also very very versatile because you can alter the tone depending on where you place the bug on the body of the bass. But of course once you’ve found the sweet spot you can just leave it in position, rock up to the gig, plug in and go. I’m selling them together as the matching complete system that they are. The Dyn-B cost me £485 and I paid £240 for the PRE-A-III. I’m reluctantly selling the pair for £499. As I said it’s all in immaculate condition and perfect working order. You’ll never need another bass pickup after this one. Here are the details and current prices on the contrabass.co.uk website: http://www.contrabass.co.uk/schertler_dyn_set.htm http://www.contrabass.co.uk/schertler_pre_a_111.htm -------------------- And… Here’s what it says on the Schertler website: DYN-B CONTACT MIC Perfect amplification of the acoustic double bass has been a long-time dream for most jazz bassists. The DYN-B, in combination with our PRE-A-II, is simply the most natural double bass transducer in the world, one step closer to that dream. The application and use of the Schertler DYN-B transducer is extremely simple and safe. Special inert adhesive putty is provided to mount the pickup to the instrument body. The best location for your sound is quickly found through our indications or through experimentation with placement. The balanced, low impedance output reduces the risk of hum and radio frequency (RF) interference, even with long cable runs. The XLR connector allows direct connection to mixing desks or preamplifier inputs. For additional control of level and tone, the Schertler PRE-A-II preamplifier is perfectly matched to the DYN-Series. "THIS TRANSDUCER REPRODUCES THE SOUND OF MY BASS, STRINGS AND FINGERS, NOTHING ELSE." CHARLIE HADEN PRE-A III Especially designed for use with all Schertler electrostatic and electrodynamic transducers, PRE-A III is a compact preamplifier loaded with features. Individual controls include Gain, Bass, Treble, Resonance (180 Hz attenuation) and Volume. PRE-A III accepts both XLR and 1/4" jack inputs and provides both "dry" and equalized outputs. It provides phantom power to the BLUESTiCK Marine system and STAT series pickups. Class-A constant current design and a regulated AC power supply mean a strong instrument signal at all times is delivered to the sound system. - TOTAL CLASS-A CIRCUT - No Negative feedback - Innovative filter design - Faster response http://basschat.co.uk/style_images/basscha.../attach_add.png

10. Hi! I'm Dave and i'm selling my 2001 Fender USA Roscoe Beck Signature 5 string. I'm selling the bass for £750 or very near offer and postage would cost £15 with TNT next-day courier. It's a beautiful bass in almost perfect condition, however almost all of the gigs I now play are on upright bass so it's time to say goodbye! I bought it from The Bass Cellar in London in 2001 and still have all the original paperwork (I've included a picture of the original receipt). I’ve mostly used it for studio recording and jazz gigs and it’s always been fanatically cared for. The instrument itself is perfectly set-up with a new set of Ernie Ball strings. I work in a guitar shop in Liverpool and the guitar technician in the store regularly services and checks all my basses. Although the 4-string model can still be found in the Fender 08' catalogue, the production of the 5-string model has now stopped and is now definitely a highly-sought after collector's item. This really is a professional quality bass. It was designed hand-in-hand by top session-bassist Roscoe Beck and Fender. The 'Bill Lawrence Quad Coil' custom passive pickups were specially made for this bass to defeat the problems that Roscoe Beck had found in other 5-strings. The sound of this bass is incredibly versatile. You really can dial in pretty much any Fender tone you can think of… There is a mini-toggle switch for each pickup which gives you the option of single-coil (for a classic Jazz Bass sound), parallel (Jazz Bass with no hum and slightly lowered highs), and series (a big fat Precision Bass sound). The tone knob also had a push-pull function on it that will slightly lower the output of the neck pickup so you can get that perfect growly 'Jaco' sound. The construction and hardware of this bass is absolutely top notch as well. The heavy duty ‘Gotoh’ bridge can be strung either thru-body or thru-bridge and the fingerboard is made from very rare Pau Ferro and is extremely smooth and fast to play. The 6-bolt neck is solid as a rock and very very rarely requires any adjustment. The bass comes with a very high quality British made Hiscox flight case as pictured. Unfortunately I sold the original case because I only ever use Hiscox cases anyway and i couldn't ever foresee wanting to sell the bass at the time... doh! There are 3 very small ‘dings’ in the body of the bass and i've included a close-up photo of these 3 marks. Apart from these there is very little to distinguish this bass from a brand new one. The only other sign that this is not a new bass is the small hole in the scratch-plate where I had a technician add a coil-tap to the pickups as an experiment. It turns out that the bass sounded better with it’s original wiring so it was changed back but unfortunately this left a small hole in the scratch-plate where the coil-tap switch had been placed. This really is a fantastic instrument and i'll be sorry to see it go. Please don't hesitate to e-mail me with any questions and good luck! Dave x
