2.
My mate has a Warwick Blue Cab 60 bass amp which he uses for lead guitar. 1)The combo has an 'active in' and 'passive in' connection - if he uses an effects unit between his passive guitar and the combo , should he use the passive or active inputs ?
hmmm, not sure what the relevance is between the topic title and the question you are asking is - but in answer to the question in the post, though it is dependent on what effecs he is using, 99% of the time he needs to put it in the Passive jack. And using a bass cab for lead guitar.... not recommended!
3.
It sounds like you may benefit from trying "economy of movement". Turn the amp up and let it do the grunt work. Hammering into the bass probably doesn't do your speed, tone or accuracy any favours. I play fingerstyle only these days, so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about regarding pick playing....
I only play with a pick, and I don't think that there are any easy answers to your predicament. Digging in with the pick can create some awesome sounds, so saying 'don't dig in and let the amp do the work' isn't really an answer - everyone plays different ways and for many different reasons! I tend to to play really close to the bridge, and anchor my right hand to the body just above the strings - letting my fingers do all the work with the pick. it works great for me but I've seen loads of pick exclusive players who play in a completely different way. i sometimes get that thing where I get blisters on my index finger from it brushing it against the E string, there's no easy answer - taping it doesn't feel right, over time my fingers have hardened sufficiently that it isn't a problem for me. The only advice that I can give is adopt your natural playing position and try and make concious but very small positions to your playing style - over time it will feel much easier to make the transition. Failing that, buy a new guitar with a heavily tapered body area so that it is comfortable to play
4.
Good luck in your quest. You never know it might be you passing on your invaluable knowledge next time
Exactly the reason why I'd like to learn it this way!
5. Hi guys I thought I would drop a little request here on BC. Basically, here's the story. I think I'm fighting a losing battle against getting my bass set up correctly for me. When I first got it a few years ago (it's a mid 90s Jap Fender P) it played great, but as time has gone on, it seems like it's becoming harder to play. I am becoming noticeably more aware that the action is too high at the bridge end, and no amount of tinkering can get it sorted. I don't know whether my playing style has changed, or I'm just simply being more critical. I'm no bass noob, but I've tried the odd truss rod / bridge adjustment and it has seemed to either work for a while or only make the bass a bit more unplayable in other areas. I think what it needs is a bloody good setup, from scratch. Now the easy option would be to give the bass and some money to someone and just get it done that way. But I'm not that kind of chap! I think it would be more beneficial to me to see it done hands on, so that I can learn from it and hopefully do it myself next time! So I'm basically asking this. If there's anyone in the West Midlands area with an hour free to walk and talk me through this procedure I'd love to hear from you! I live in Wolverhampton, but don't mind travelling, and I'll be sure to recompense you for your time and effort. Failing that, the kettles always on at mine! Cheers guys, if anyone can help then feel free to drop me a PM here or reply to this message. Thanks, Stu.
6. Recently supported The Datsuns, The Young Knives, Good Shoes, The Rumble Strips, Bromheads Jacket, Little Man Tate, The Harrisons, Morning Runner, Shout Out Louds and a few more that I can't remember. Never played with anyone famous though....
7. Just thought I'd let you know about Steve at Musical Electronic Repairs and Spares in Birmingham. He's located up a set of stairs at the top of a door next to Sound Control. Cracking bloke, who is a nice guy and is knowledgeable on all amps. He's one of these sort that doesn't have to advertise, kept in business by word-of-mouth... He turned round a full service on Hartke within about 2 days and it sounded lovely afterwards. He's only open on Mon, Thurs and Saturday so give him a call before popping up! 0121 233 9390
8. Popped into my local Sound Control yesterday and was having a good look around the bass section. Nothing really took my eye apart from a Thunderbird copy that was produced by a comapny called Westfield. Never heard of them before but the bass was only £99! Just wondered if anyone had heard of these copies, or even played em?? I have been looking for 'project' bass, I was hoping to find a cheap one that I could do a distress on and keep as backup... So.. anyone with any experience of these particular guitars - worth £99??? Cheers
9. A nice accessible walking bass line for a beginner, would be 'Eight Days A Week' by The Beatles. Nice pace, easy to follow and a cracking line to boot that sits in the song well too.
10. I sent a lovely Ibanez in a heavy duty gig bag. Wrapped the bass in shed loads of bubble wrap, whacked it in the gig bag and any space left I put those air bubbel bags in there. Then I bubble wrapped the gig bag. Took it down the post office and sent it via special delivery! didn't think that I would get away with it but it arrived safe and sound next day in it's own van! Don't know if you can still send something so big still now the posting rules have changed!
11. Have a listen to em on our myspace site - they're called "Not So Hard At All" and "Wasted With You". Comments are welcomed on both the bass aspect of it all and songwriting / performance etc! Hope you enjoy them! www.myspace.com/paisleyriot cheers!
