  1. Hi Now priced at £1150.00 Grab a bargain as I need to replenish funds due to another recent purchase Bought this from Bass Direct earlier this year (19.04.23) as a back up bass. Tried this out and it worked for me straight away. Great sound and very playable. Lovely neck. See what Ed Friedland has to say https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYiVQU9qlxw I've however changed the bridge and this is why: This bass has done several rehearsals and one gig. During this time I got very fed up with the bridge that came with it. Ed says it adds something sonically but the reality is its not that well made. The string height adjustment screws are a poor fit and work their way out during playing If you change the strings all your string height set up needs doing again. The intonation screws not that good either. Use Lock-tight glue I was told but back on earth and in the real world its not ideal. So...Bernie Goodfellow supplied and fitted the very nice Schaller bridge shown in the pictures. Following that adjustments to string height/action and intonation are super easy, go high or as low as you want, and it stays put. Sound wise, I cant tell any difference. Maybe it exists but nothing stands out to me. Maybe its a bit better, but with out reloading the original bridge who knows? But for the aforementioned reasons why would you? If you really want to put a cheap £30.00 quid bridge back on, by all means fill your boots! I was also going to change the VOL VOL Tone for a Vol Blend Tone because I'm used to this set up. I was in the process of doing this when another Bass Chat member put up an American Elite Jazz for sale. I've been searching for one of these for some time now but couldn't find one that I was happy with (thats another story). I tried it, liked it, bought it. Its what i really wanted in the first place and thats why this Bass is up for sale. Currently strung with 40-100 D'darrio Nickel. Bass comes with the Front Pick Up cover and Finger rest included should you want to put them back on. These were already removed when I bought it It didn't come with a case but I could come to an agreement on selling one if required. Great Bass and at a very good price Not listed here but I have the VBT with Bell plate now surplus to requirements and will be now be selling this at a discount if he buyer is interested in taking this Courier costs to be arranged and finalised with buyer, or buyer collects. UK only
  2. Hi Freddi375 Please can you PM me back as I'm not sure you have got my message?
  3. Hello 👋 Does anyone here know of or has made the change to a passive 4 string Jazz Bass from a volume volume tone to a volume blend tone? If so any unwanted side effects? Any advice appreciated in advance
  4. Hi Bass Hive I've recently bought a new Modern Vintage Bass which is pretty good actually. I'm a very particular customer so I'm gonna be very picky about things so that fact I bought this says a lot about how good I think this bass is.(see my other rant about Whats going on with Fender) But...theres always something isn't there!! It comes with a vintage bridge (well that is the point!) and the properties of this bridge are, as it says on the tin, adds to the overall good stuff that makes this bass sound great and plays so very well. And thats true. It does. So.... not all the bridge screw saddles stay in place and will come loose whilst playing over a few hours. If you change the strings ,the screws move, all your painstaking set up to get the action just as you like it needs the same attention all over again. I've been recommended using a bit of Lock-tight Glue which should solve this issue and its a known but nessacary thing with this type of bridge. Lock-tight ordered. I feel this bass is a keeper, loved it in a rehearsal and its doing its first gig this evening but long term this is gonna get frustrating I think. Anyone thats changed the bridge on their bass had new problems arise from it? Things i should look out for based on your experience good and bad? Please let me know, appreciate any good advise in advance
  5. Nope. as soon as i found the action problem , 20 mins after buying it, it went straight back and got a refund
  6. second hand. but as good a new. not a mark on it anywhere
  7. So , in my quest to find a decent back up to my 2011 Fender Deluxe jazz bass I just cant seem to find one. The closest so far was one with a maple board but as i really want one with a rosewood finger board the search goes on. Searching around, a Fender Ultra comes up, on a "ahem" second hand things you can buy website, and the price is right, its got a rosewood board, its near me, so off I go and get. Now isn't this supposed to be Fenders (with the exception of custom shop) best effort?? It played okayish but the action was set up in a " get a taxi to the fretboard stylee". Ok I thought, I can just put the action down, straighten the neck, and should be a winner (these are over 2 grand new!!) Absolute dog $h*>. Lower action just a tad = all notes above 10th !!!! fret choke out. Truss rod wont straighten the neck. Ive had 300 quid Squires that play and allow better set up than this. Probably not a new subject here but I though the Fender guys had made an effort to get it all back on track?
  8. So after a visit to Bernie Goodfellow for assessment..it needs a re-fret. Its beyond a fret dress plus the nut has worn down so new one needs to go in there too. Bernie did an amazing quick fix to the nut to get me by but as soon as he can do it , its going back to him for the work. Still looking for a 4 string Jazz to use as a back up/ replacement but thats another story
  9. Yep. makes no difference. Higher action with buzz or lower action with buzz. mostly on the E around frets 5-7. raised the action a bit too but its still there. rattles a bit in places. Got someone looking at it tomorrow for me who will be able to sort it out but I'm interested in anyone else thats been through this torment of their fav bass getting sick and the outcomes following treatment I'm just a worried parent really
  10. Hi all haven't been here for a while My fav Jazz bass is buzzing and clanging about especially if new strings are on it Have any of you out there had a Fret re-dress or even a Re-fret? I'm interested to know how you got on with either option I'm a bit worried about it but it has to be done. I've been gigging, general banging around on the same bass week in week out pretty much for the last 13 years so I guess this was going to happen eventually
  11. Lots. Practice a lot more than I used to. With the core band we do a lock down vid every month or so, a few different singers here and there, even though they are out of fashion now we do it to keep our selves motivated. Check out Inner Soul Collective on FB if you want to see anything we do. I've found that because we are not gigging I have more energy and enthusiasm to try out new things. With no pressure to make sure I've got all my stinky poo together for the gigs I can relax into just having a really nice play just for the pleasure of playing. Its why I started playing in the first place. Really got into Bobby Vega and my pick style (or rather Bobbys'pick style) is really coming on to the point I'll use it live plus I'm writing little things I can get into. My readings gotten a lot better too. What I'm more concerned about is post lockdown being able to play a whole gig without going wrong. Sure it will all come back but right now, some tunes I'm like...how does that go again?
  12. We've been more productive as a band in the last three months than we have been in the last two years. With the regular gigs we were doing the chance of getting new material done at any pace was slower than acceptable. Plus practicing wasn't as regular cause .."well we know the set ….yeah I'll get round to that at some point next week.." Now ... (since getting garage band plus the gizmo you plug into it thingy) and joining the thousands of other bands doing online lockdown videos, we've had more attention than ever. Really great feedback, much more than we ever expected, and this is all doing material we haven't done as a band before. This has given us a renewed enthusiasm for being creative and trying material that before might have been one of those " well I don't know if that would work" conversations is now "yeah lets give it a go." We have a pool of singers and so as one has success the others (probably jealous) want in on it. And so we learn something new for that. We all put our own little stamp on the tune somewhere rather than parrot them note for note which keeps it interesting. I'm lucky that I still have a full time day job so I'm working even harder now on playing as I need to (cause I wanna) keep up with the guys that are furloughed stuck at home. I've been practicing more than ever and my callouses haven't seen this kind of punishment for a long time and my playing's also in the best shape its been in ages. If it wasn't for the lockdown my band mates probably wouldn't as focused as they are now too. Then there are a few other projects that have popped up and asked me to contribute to. So yes I miss gigging but I'm really enjoying what's going on over here in bassjim world
