My first serious bass was a 1962 Jazz which I bought in 1965 not knowing how much an appreciating asset it would turn out to be. I swapped it for a Gibson EB2 in 1969 - no comment. I have been looking for a fretless bass for quite a while and a fellow bass player, Mr Bassman, suggested that I look out for another fretted bass and have it de-fretted ? So I did, found one in Manchester, a slightly later model with the "strat" type jack socket, but otherwise identical. A friend undertook the "defret" , the result being a bass which feels like my original bass but with a "fretless" sound. I have attached pictures, not brilliant, but clearly showing the difference between "frets" and "fretless" Rhino.

No rattles, but a very solid bass noise - Duck Dunn etc., etc.,. However, they didn't record too well, too much depth for the engineer to cope with, so he said. So I fitted, all on my own, a set of Elite Stadium , heavy gauge 50 - 110 Roundwounds - excellent. Rhino.

Hi, I try and practice an hour a day for flexibility mainly I've been playing for 46 years and I have slowed down, so an hour a day plus a weekly band rehearsal/recording session is ideal. My first bass was a Rosetti Lucky 7 (red) the cost was 21guineas and I was 14 (1963) I wanted to play bass after hearing the Everley Brothers and Chuck Berry, followed by The Shadows, and the Big Three at the Cavern with Johnny Gustafson playing an ice blue Precision through a Fender Bassman (black face). A friend was so impressed that he bought a 2 x 10" combo and added an EV 1 x 15" cab to run his Wal 5 through rather than his ampeg pre-amp and Chevin power amps. I have just bought a 1 x 12" combo, it is superb and with a Bag End 1 x 15" cab plugged in and the amp cranked up, you may well think Armageddon is upon us! Rhino.

A+ with a Jazz or Precision, A++ with an MM5.[/quote] Hi, I 've dug out a photo of a Peterson rig I had years ago - 150watt top and a cab with an EV 15" and an EV 10" - quite heavy. I spoke to Pete Tulett and he told me who built his cabs for him, namely Greyhound Cabinets in Hull, so I rang them and asked if they could supply me with two separate cabs to the same specs as the Peterson. He could, and did, I put the EV's in the Greyhound cabs driven by the G&K, and fitted two Eminences into the Peterson. I eventually traded them in for a Trace Elliot 1 x 15" valve combo - here endeth another chapter in my "How to Spend Money" on "noisy boxes" (quote from a nearest and dearest) book. Rhino.
