1. I hope it was the turn out that Si deserved! So sorry that Alan ( former drummer with Soul Destroyers) and I couldn't actually be there, but trust us, we WERE there in spirit and were thinking about the OldGit xxx

Just back from the really lovely service, full of happy memories of a truly lovely gent. lots of tears and lots of laughter too, just as he'd have wanted it, I suspect. Nice to catch up with so many old friends, even if the circumstances weren't the best. Goodbye, Si xx

Hubby and i still cant quite believe this awful news. Si and Alan (drummer) played together in the Soul Destroyers for several years and Si was always up for a great gig, and a good laugh ( more sax in the mix mate!!).He was even known to help load hubby's kit in and out occasionally! All these posts, all saying such good, positive things about him, I hope his family can draw strength from all the love that surrounds this most generous of men. One of my favourite songs says that 'no-one leaves you when they live in your hearts and minds'...well, if that's true,Si will be around us all for a long time to come. RIP you lovely, lovely soul man xxx
4. Hubby out with his band tonight, good money, good appreciative crowd there usually, so he'll probably be home around 1 am.Not gone with him as I'm having a quiet NY night for a change! Happy New Year everyone!
5. Marillion at Colston Hall, Bristol on 11th November marillion at the Forum, London on 19th November had to cancel tickets for Levellers at the Bristol academy 9thDecember, as i'll be recovering from my operation hopefully going to see Steve Hogarth in London December 21st then nothing until March 09
6. Hubby had a lovely gig (he's the drummer) with his blues band......and got a really nice email from one of the punters, complimenting the whole band individually and saying that his drumming and cymbal work was 'truly inspirational'.Nice to get the praise
7. First time we've been to a Metallica-only show (saw them at Reading a few years ago).....and were completely blown away by them, really really enjoyed the whole set, and thought the staging was great too, nice and simple, so everyone could see and it gave the band plenty of freedom to shift about,Thrilled to have only paid a fiver.......and will be queueing to buy tix for next tour. Agree about the 'moshing'......it's one thing enjoying having a damned good jump about, but we were sitting up on the sides and could clearly see a big fat b'stard smacking hell out of people and nothing was done about him, though he was clearly causing mayhem down there. Oddly on the opposite side to him someone else was physically jumped on by several security guys and taken from the arena.Son, who was down in the front near the first guy said this chap was just intent on causing damage.and anyone who objected to his behaviour was threatened with a smacking.WHY do people get like this at gigs??
8. went to larmertree on Thursday to see the Levellers, cracking set, and was right down at the front, as there was no barrier......great fun!!
9. Si, i have been hit badly by customs when buying stuff from ebayers in other countries..............................so either add in the likely extras (20% sounds about right), or ask your seller to be conservative with the selling price,or possibly even declare as a ift (you just MIGHT get away with it at customs, but not always!!).The downside to that though is if the item is damaged, insurance will only cough up for declared value, so you lose out anyway
10. Leonard Cohen's Allelujah........................really mellow, lovely song
11. dep..............deputising..............standing in...................etc. Simple though: go for it!
12. you are protected up to £500, so just let them know what the problem is.Send another email to your seller, telling them you are reporting it.Keep all your emails, because ebay will ask to see them.My daughter had probs with an American seller, (tix for Madonna, which were never sent.........),and paypal coughed up once she provided the info.Good luck
13. no problem if you used paypal, you are protected, so mail ebay ,tell them what the problem is and ask for a refund. It might take a little while, but you WILL get it back.....
14.
If thats aimed at me then i should explain that i meant when playing WMC's (those who do will understand). I guess its the fact that we are playing to the same, half empty rooms full of people who dont really get up to dance untill almost closing time. playing Mustang Sally or moondance for 5-7 mins takes no thought at all. my fingers know where to go without any help form the brain. playing weddings and functions can be very rewarding though. Having a room full of peole who are up for a party makes a whole world of difference and we all enjoy those gigs. A room full of nice women, making money, good food, free bar in a castle on a Sat night. Nothing beats it IMO. As far as getting songs done, it just aint gonna happen with my main band. Ive tried but no one is really in charge so no one can push the others too hard. Its normally excuses that "i havent had time" or "when did you tell me about that song? etc etc. We are all mates and so we work well together. We get to play some very nice places around the country and get paid. Its worth it to me and we have a lot of gigs. i cant be bothered to go looking for another local band who are busy (if indeed there is one). I dont drive so i leave most of my gear with my drummer and go to and from gigs with him. It works well. We do the WMC's to fill our Sat nights and get paid more than for the love. We do have a laugh on and off stage but it can be difficult to enjoy playing to stoney faced people. We do get good compliments from them though at the end.
My apologies: I understand exactly where you are coming from now............hubby has spent years playing in various bands, and yes, the WMC's can be damn hard, boring work, so I can see why you'd be thinking of other things during some numbers!! And yes, MUCH better, much more fun, playing to an audience who are up for a party................his last band played to audiences like that most of the time, and it was much more satisfying! You really get off on the audience reaction/participation bit! Still think maybe you should suggest a change round of some numbers to your lot though..............no-one needs to be in charge to say 'what about us doing this, I think it'd be a great number for us'
